There is also Anna Sandesjo/Lurqal of the Star Trek: Vanguard novels that take place around the same time as TOS, she was a klingon double agent

Abandon ship: Paramount & Bad Robot have quietly canceled the Star Trek panel that had been planned for WonderCon in Anaheim.

Like the Joker, Loki or this guy.

Whatever his name may or not be. :D

"Please catch me so I can mess with your mind, then destroy you from the inside!"

EDIT: You know what would be freaking hilarious?

Finding out Cumberbatch isn't Khan, but Gary Mitchel instead :)

What little clues there are could be seen to point to Mitchell..

1) One of the films writers have said he is someone from Trek Canon.
In terms of well known figures that doesn't leave a whole lot from the TOS era (unlikely they'd do another time travel deal after the 1st one). So we have Khan, Mitchell, and a maybe a couple of Klingons Kirk faced off against. If it's someone more obscure it could anyone who made an appearance in the old series (for example TOS had a crew member named "Harrison" who appeared in a number of episodes, including Khan's 'Space Seed').

2) Urban did call Cumberbatch's character Gary Mitchell, but recanted that shortly afterwards saying he was knackered from a 22 hour flight before that interview. Being tired did he simply mistake the name or did he slip up and let that cat out of the bag?

3) The comic book writer has said issue 1 of his comics holds a hint to this film. That dealt with this new timeline's handling of Mitchell (afaik the films writers are not considering anything the comics do outside of the official prequel books as canon, so if they want to do Mitchell completely differently they obviously can).

Biggest argument against all this though would be that Mitchell was American, and Cumberbatch is obviously playing this with his British accent intact.

William Shatner says J.J. Abrams is "Being a pig."

Video of interview at link.

Ah, that was an obviously leading question, and having seen Shatner's humour in action I think he was mostly messing around.

I can see why some might think Abram's is being kinda greedy though, but put in his position I figure most of us would do exactly the same (Have both Star Trek & Star Wars to play with? Yes please).

I'd guess the more partisan fans might not though...

Well, stranger things have happened.

Who ever thought that after the successful reboot of Trek, JJ would direct the next new Star Wars film?

Weird, indeed.

As for Urban calling the character Gary Mitchell?

It wasn't a slip up....I think the cat was let out of the bag; sleep or no sleep.

But thanks for backing me up; much appreciated :cwink:

I want to see Lt. M'Ress the Caitian (and if she has a crush on her engineering boss Scotty, so much the better).. this would be a great way to explore some neglected characters from the more disparate avenues of continuity and bring them back to the fore...

M'Ress? Great Idea! With todays Technology & the Big Budget of the new Movies. She would be quite a sight. :word:

They keep putting out that exact same featurette. I'm not sure why.

J.J. Abrams Talks Klingons and Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness

A few new additions from the Star Trek mythos will be appearing in the this summer's Star Trek Into Darkness. Both the Klingons and Doctor Carol Marcus will debut in the film and director J.J. Abrams spoke with MTV about their roles.

Though a scene was shot for 2009's Star Trek featuring the Klingons that didn't make the final cut, they're making a comeback in a big way in this film.

"Their role in this is definitely that of adversary," Abrams teased, "and you'll see how that plays out."

It's been expected by many that Alice Eve's character Carol Marcus will play a love interest to Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, but (while it may happen) Abrams confirms that the film won't slow down to squeeze in a love story.

"(Kirk) meets her fairly early on and again she plays a science officer, she's someone who is a part of the adventure. I think Chris is right, because it's very much an action adventure movie and once that gets going it's a very difficult thing to park the story. So it's very difficult to do a romantic interlude. Her role is important, she wouldn't be in the movie otherwise."

what about Yeoman Rand and Nurse Chapel? They need to be brought into the stories, too, especially if this is an "all new" continuity, they could boost the gender diversity.

They seem to mostly want Uhuru as female lead In Star Trek.Even Mccoy may be taking back seat to Uhuru In films now.

Pretty obvious they canceled the Star Trek panel because they don't want people to ask Abrams about Star Wars and make jokes.

Will we see some alternate designs for starfleet ships? Is everything going to be the saucer with the cylinder main body and nacelles?

Brazil Star Trek Into Darkness Press Screening Reveals Big Spoilers + Peter Weller’s Character

[BLACKOUT]Below are some highlights from the report

From the extended beginning of the film…

Opening sequence (previewed at IMAX theaters in December) has been reordered to have Nibiru Volcano sequence now opens the film followed by title card and then the scenes in London and at the hospital

Nibiru mission ends with Kirk rescuing Spock by violating the prime directive by revealing the Enterprise to Nibiru natives so he can beam Spock out of the Volcano

Kirk has a scene in bed (back in San Francisco) in bed with two "cat women"

Kirk makes mention of hoping to get assigned to a "five year mission" (implying that the famed five year mission hasn’t started yet for the time he has been captain)

Kirk is demoted for violating prime directive on Nibiru, loses command of Enterprise with Pike to take over command Kirk as first officer

Pike wanted to send Kirk back to Academy but was convinced (possibly ordered?) to make Kirk first officer of Enterprise by Admiral Marcus (played by Peter Weller)

Spock assigned to another ship

The "father" character uses his Starfleet ring as a bomb (dropping it into water for a reaction) and destroys a facility (in London)

London attack leads to big meeting of Starfleet captains which itself is attacked by John Harrison, resulting in Pike being injured…Harrison transport away

Later scenes in the film….

Enterprise severely damaged falling to Earth with Spock in command ordering evacuation

Kirk and Scott seen in Engineering trying to stabilize ship

Later Spock scene beaming down to San Francisco and starting long chase with Harrions

Eventually Spock meets up with Harrison and engages in a fight[/BLACKOUT]

Yeah... I don't like the sound of that. Retreading old ground is sequelitis 101.

It's an odd narative choice, but I guess it does address the [BLACKOUT]rushness of Kirk taking over as captain in the first film. While I didn't mind it, some people thought it was too convenient and abrupt. Here, this shows the after effects and consequences of this fast promotion.[/BLACKOUT]

So Instead of having the enterprise crew become similar to original Trek franchise Abrams Instead
rehashing origin story be demoting Kirk to first officer under Pike and assigning Spock to other ship

So If Peter Weller Is
Carol Marcus's father and first officer under April does this mean Carol Is more important character than we thought and we might actully see April In film

About Harrison
The preview made It seem like he was offering to arguement others.

If Harrison Isn't Khan It's kinda of strange to have new character just launch terrorist attacks. It seems like Abrams Is trying to cop Nero with Harrison
