Star Wars - - - Part 12

I would agree, and have been saying that to free itself, begin this thousands of years later in the SWU. We haven't even seen that yet. This whole new trilogy or series can be about a set of different characters and places.

Really, the possibilities are endless.

But oh my God. First I heard the Disney news and was shocked. But then I got the bomb dropped about this new movie. I've been having a downer of a week and I am now just rejuvinated. I never thought I would be saying Star Wars Episode 7.
I know right. Crazy to think weve got three years of fandom and speculation ahead of us. And more after that.

I would re-cast. Young Adult Luke, Leia and Han is what I want to see. James McAvoy would probably be my Luke.

In my humble opinion, screw recasting. Its pure evil for this franchise to have such a thing.

Its so exciting, its like the prequel days all over again. Its also terrifying.

If they are numbering them, they should stay close imo. They could do other films, and other film series (KOTOR) without numbering them.

First Class showed that isn't really true. Same with Bond and same with Batman. It is all about who you cast.

Also, I wonder how long before we get our Pixar SW films. :wow:

Joe Johnston may be able to do that Boba Fett movie he always wanted to do

Its like the pre-TPM days when their was still lots of hope for something great.

It is much, much better imo. Now there really are endless possibilities. Lucas was always a bit closed minded about how large SW could be in he realm of film. SW could work like Marvel Studios.

*sigh*

1) I've never believed the "Lucas always wanted to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX" business.

2) I've never wanted to see Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.

3) Star Wars the film series is, for me, the story of Anakin Skywalker - or the Skywalker family extending through Luke and Leia. It's a single story told in six parts. That wasn't the intent from the beginning, but the prequels reshaped the story into that. I've never wanted to see other filmmakers take Star Wars on film into different directions. Star Wars on the big screen is that story of Anakin Skywalker's rise, fall, and redemption. I'm all for the expanded universe, but I've never really wanted the film franchise to keep going.

What was once a smartass joke is continuing to become truth: The human race will eventually be a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Still, this shocked me.

But not as much as the announcement - dropped in the middle of a large press release as if it was incidental - of Episode VII. And not only Episode VII - Episode VII in 2015!

THAT'S BAD. That is major cause for worry. Unless they (whoever "they" are exactly - I doubt it's Lucas) have had a story for Episode VII (and possibly beyond for years, this is insanely rushed. Two and a half years away, and I'm supposed to think of this as good news? Sure, large productions sometimes happen faster than you think - Matthew Vaughn came onboard and completed X-Men: First Class within a year - but this is shocking.

None of this is good news to me. If I'm in the minority for my worries - and it's seemd I'm in the minority on not wanting the Star Wars film franchise to continue beyond Lucas - then that's great. I hope people enjoy it. I don't know that I'll bother.

Yes but this isn't just any franchise. Its flippin Star Wars!

Apparently this has been well under way for awhile. They didn't just decide to start a new Star Wars movie today.

I'm excited for this simply because of the hilarious Red Letter Media break down videos that will fallow.

Lucas changed the direction of SW with the prequels. It was always Luke's story. He just destroyed Darth Vader. Now someone will have a chance to do something worthy of the legact of the OT.

My love for SW isn't really matched by anything else in terms of entertainment, hobby, past-time, etc., so I get it. But I have always wanted to see Luke, in his prime, leading the actual Return of the Jedi. The whole process. The humble beginnings, the first students, Mara Jade, their place in the New Republic, etc.

Also, First Class was younger versions of characters, which has already been done in Star Wars. No recasts please. Would people accept someone else other than James Earl Jones as the voice of Vader?

News about Hurricane Sandy was depressing enough.

Plenty of people can do Vader's voice. In fact, many are apparently better now considering James Earl Jones age. Not that Vader would be involved.

How is this in anyway depressing? Especially after the prequels. I have lived through bad SW movies. If I get one great one out of this, it will be worth it imo.

Depressing news????
Episodes 7-9
A Star Wars movie every 2-3 years
More Star Wars at the amusement parks
More Star Wars on TV

And people can do Heath Ledger impressions, and Marlon Brando impressions, and Morgan Freeman, and Sean Connery.

It doesn't mean it should be done.

Go with new characters. I don't even think George would make the decision of recasting Han, Luke or Leia.

Sure I'd love to see that, especially Mara Jade. Maybe thats where really good CGI and/or Pixar comes in?

Yeah. Recasting wouldn't be right.

Coz Lucas has completely lost it when it comes to Star Wars.
