Do you guys think it's safe to say this is the biggest media/film news of the past decade?

I seriously can't think of anything of this scale. I mean this is huge.

this is huge and if it wasnt for the hurricane this would be all over the news

All this news has got me in the mood to watch the films again. And possibly read some of the books. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm thinking Star Wars Episode 7 will be at SDCC '14 along with Justice League and The Avengers 2.

Yeah, but Justice League is seriously getting screwed I think, a 2015 release isn't a good idea at all IMO for JL.

Honestly im glad. DC needs to take their time and set the characters up properly like Marvel did. Rushing it to make 2015 just didnt seem smart or whats best for the characters.

It is big, after the disappointment to many of the PT, this will be a second chance. I would say this is some of the biggest news.

I would watch them, but no longer have a VHS player to play my only versions of the OT (refuse to buy the remastered Blu-ray versions.) Only have AOTC and ROTS on DVD.

there is more than one way to do it. They could use the JL movie to create buzz and then do solo movies.

They are definitely further ahead with this than we are led to believe too I think. The videos they are starting to post on SW.com with Lucas and Kathleen were recorded even before the deal was sealed for example. And it's not like these plans to sell came suddenly and it's not like LucasFilm had to wait until it was sold to start working outlining plans for the movie.

wont happen for a while...the OT distribution is tied up with Fox

True, but it was Lucas himself denying the release.

Fox would likely welcom a chance to sell a crap ton more blurays.

Yeah, I'm hopeful. From that Slashfilm Q&A article:
if Disney were to make that release happen, it would generate significant good will with the fans leading up to the release of Episode VII. However, Lucas is still part of this whole thing as a “creative consultant.” I still don’t think he lets it happen until at least 2015 with the new movies coming out.

Hmmm maybe that would be my first SDCC lol, man it would be crazy.

Yeah, I'm planning on '14 being my first time too. It should be insane.

I'm super excited. I think WB can handle it but that should become more apparent when MoS comes out.

Are you saying you're glad JL is releasing in 2015?

Just wondering how big is the EU to star wars fans? Is it considered canon to them? If the new series does it's own thing and becomes the "new canon" would fans take that as an insult to the previous eu?

I agree there are more than one way to do this, but it all seemed to be more about competing with Marvel and getting their cut of the pie. Not that is wrong but it doesnt show much care for the property. Theyd need to spend the first hour or more setting up the new batman and the rest of the characters. Just seems like a bad way to go about it.

WB will back out of that. Which in all honesty is a blessing in disguise for them and us. Personally I think that JL film was being made for all the wrong reasons.

Three words come up when I think of it: Knee jerk reaction. They need more time to properly approach this in my view.

No im glad that this may force WB to take more time on JL and do it right and not rush it for the sake of competing with marvel.

I can't say I'm not super excited to see where this goes. Star Wars has been one of my passions forever now, and consiering I did enjoy the prequels mostly, I cannot wait. Wonder if Joe Johnston gets his Boba Fett movie now. I cannot wait to see where this goes. My actual worry is we are so close to 2013, and that means we need a script, director, cast, etc. If this is seriously the plan, I cannot stress how much we need a good script. I know people have claimed over the years that Lucas had some unused dratfs for the sequels, or at least an idea, but I have my doubts. I wonder wher eit will go. After all, RotJ did leave that plothole of the WHOLE Empire basically still existing, but the Emperor and Vader being dead. So I guess we'll see.

I think most is. And a lot of the EU is really good, especially the Thrawn trilogy, that is my favorite hands down. Bale would be the perfect Thrawn.

Im looking towards the next Star Wars Celebration

I dont see where people are saying this is being rushed. Right now we are going into 2013...the movie isn't coming out til 2015...so we have two years

Plus they seem to be further into it than some people are giving them credit for.

I'd say three years. I have a feeling they will release this in December since summer is full. It would be huge in December. So I think they have over 3 years.

I think they are further along than we think they are

Indeed, past four years along maybe?

I don't think WB can handle the likes of two pre-established franchises, I seriously doubt JL is coming in 2015 now.

The EU is technically canon, all of it with a few exceptions. It annoys me when The Clone Wars overrides a pre-established EU event, however apparently rewrites were though being planned to the overridden material.

I personally definitely both hope and think they are gonna use Lucas story treatments for this sequel trilogy. Set in the same universe, made by the same studio. It won't be that wildly different approach to let's say The Empire Strikes Back.

I think for those who are worrying/complaining – thinking this will be a whole different SW and that Disney are gonna take all control and making these movies – are having the wrong idea.

the EU is not cannon. Anything that GL actually worked on...the movies and the CW are cannon.
