Star Wars - Part 9

A New Hope was great, yea. But Empire is still better. And the final showdown in ROTJ is better than anything in the prequels.

Obi Wan vs Anakin doesn't even come close to Luke vs Vader in Jedi. But oh, it has really fancy lightsaber choreography! lol.

The part where Luke is under the stairs and Vader is like "Ahhh... sister!" that's just great cinema, one of my favourite scenes in the entire Star Wars saga. No amount of fancy FX and silly ballet-esque choreography can make up for that raw emotion.

As far as i'm concerned Lucas has made 2 good films, both of which were decades ago. He's been riding on the coat tails of Star Wars ever since. He deserves credit for the amazing universe he created. But i don't understand how some people hail him as some kind of cinematic god.

Aside form the last part this is exactly what I said. Still I'm talking about overall films and as contentious as the prequels are they are more respectful to the story than Jedi is at times.

Don't get me wrong, Jedi has its moments. The final encounter, Yoda's death all cool but it also has moments of strange discourse. The entire beginning is boring with Jabba's palace, the stunted Darth Vader compared to his finest moment in TESB. They flippant way they glossed over Luke and Leia, the death star's almost pointless inclusion.

There are so many lost parts in ROTJ and none of them were ever the Ewoks for me.

Lucas has a grasp for story but maybe not the best grasp on execution however Star Wars is a commodity I, as a fan owe HIM not someone else because they did a better job, once.

I think he's done great Job and looking at the prequels for what they are and what they're supposed to be they're deeper and more interesting than the OT.

As films the OT came out way better.

Such is why the clone wars intrigues me so much, the political turmoil and the deepness of some very complex characters like Ventress and Dooku could be wonderful to explore and ultimately I have Lucas to thank for that

So I noticed in the finale... Maul sure likes kicking Obi-Wan alot.

Well yea, I am grateful for the universe he created, he deserves a lot of respect for it. He has an amazing imagination, but that can be a good and bad thing.

But really, for a guy who has made 2 good films in nearly 50 years, I think the praise he gets is a little overblown. It's like no one even remembers that Kershner was the guy who actually made Empire.

I love TESB but why do people forget about ANH which was Lucas and in my opinion the second best and if someone agrees I pray they're saying it's the best of the 6.

Then, in my opinion, ROTS is as good as ROTJ. So Lucas knows what he's doing, the prequels may not be up to snuff for some people but lets not pretend they're really THAT bad and let's not pretend he doesn't have ANH in his arsenal as well. The 1 film that wasnt him was great ROTJ was no where near as good as ANH.

ANH is my favorite of the 6. On ANH Lucas had a very hard time which forced him to get help from others and listen to them. He couldn't afford to ignore other peoples suggestions and opinions. Also, his actors would call him out on his crazier dialogue. That is why ANH tutned out so well. He utilized his crew properly and couldn't be stubborn as he would have liked to be.

ROTS I rank number 3 out of the 6. Its got an alright story with a left hook for an ending. But its extremely rough around the edges. I mean that technically speaking, of course. Visually speaking the film is smooth. Too smooth for my old fashioned taste, but slick nonetheless.

When Lucas has a crew that will challenge him and keep him in check and a good script the man can do good work. I've only seen that happen 1 or 2 times in his career in 50 years. That's not a good record to have. He created a wonderful universe, but he's not that good with scripts or directing.

The thing that comes to mind for me when I read discussions like this one is the beauty of Star Wars, you can ask ten different fans for likes and dislikes of the 6 films and get ten different responses, not many (if any) franchises have that, I mean I disagree with some of what Rag said about ROTJ and he left out my biggest issue with the movie lol.

Anyway, got this today, I think it's the best Ewan Obi-Wan ROTS sculpt I've seen so far.

I know people hate the Ewoks. They never bothered me though.

Plus they got one of the best themes from Williams.

Yeah it really added to the feeling Obi-Wan was under pressure, a simple thing in theory but a nice advance in the animation for the show.

Haha!, I can just hear Yoda "Bringing this hairless harpy here, approve I do not!"

Yes! :D It was an ending that promised cool things in season 5 without being a cliffhanger.
It's those little details that make the difference in the end imo.

LOL well who knows, Yoda might be popular with the ladies :cwink:.

They didnt show a trailer for season 5 though, did they? :csad:

Those are great gets btw, the statue and bust look awesome.

In my opinion, ANH is still the best one. Then comes ROTS for me. Then come the rest, which tend to be ESB, ROTJ, TPM, AOTC (although at times there's changes here lol).

I dont get the ewok hate either, but to each their own. I think they ended up serving a great purpose with their size, even if originally Lucas wanted wookies.

I find it hard to rate the films in a concrete order. Clones is usually the lowest, because, although it actually furthered the story unlike Menace, it was too bogged down by bad dialogue in the love story and didn't have a good enough final duel, Yoda would have been best saved to fight in Sith, to show his desperation, while Windu fought Dooku.

^It's not. Sidious is going to order Dooku to kill him or the circumstances of how Maul survived were part of the Emperor's plan the entire time. It's a trap of some sort. Maul escape the trash compactor in the heart of Naboo and a ship took him to the debris world. That was probably by design in case Dooku failed.

I think Sidious will use Maul to his advantage. Why kill what you can use...and Maul will certaintly be useful. Besides...I don't know if Dooku could take Maul down since Maul was trained by the most powerful of all Sith.

Agreed.

There is some evidence to this! :D

I didn't see one, I guess they'll debut a season 5 trailer at comic con.

 I know you're a big Obi Wan fan and the bust is really a great piece I think you'd dig.

And Dooku was trained by Yoda and has a lifetime of Jedi knowledge and now Sith knowledge and is known as one of the greatest lights abet duelist ever.

ME is basically a Star Wars rip-off. But an effective well thought out and genius one.

It would be awesome to see those two throw down. Although Skywalker vs Maul is what I'm hoping for. :jedi

So, it's official! Clone Wars Season 4: Obi-Wan's least favorite season!

A New Hope was great, yea. But Empire is still better. And the final showdown in ROTJ is better than anything in the prequels.

And supposedly Lucas himself directed all the scenes in the Emperor's throne room.

The part where Luke is under the stairs and Vader is like "Ahhh... sister!" that's just great cinema, one of my favourite scenes in the entire Star Wars saga.

Again, Lucas directed and his big presence in the editing room.
