State Your Opinion on A Character - Part 1

He was a pretty bad character. Even before he came back whining about life as the Red Hood, his angst meter was cranked up to 11.

Not really. That being said the post-crisis Jason Todd had like, 3 quite different characterizations in his few years he existed (before his death), you are talking about the Jim Starlin take which was done on purpose to get the people to kill him off.

Anyway, whether you're personally a Jason Todd fan or not, there's nothing wrong with voting for a fictional character to be killed off. I'm sure there are plenty you'd kill off if you could, and I know for damn sure there are plenty Kurosawa would kill off if he could. Like, all of the post-Crisis ones. There's no point in getting up on a high horse about killing off characters, whether by vote or in your own "if I had my way" fantasies.

No, because I know that characters can just leave. Killing off is so lame. Especially since they all come back. It's just shock value without creativity. Jason Todd could've easily decided to quit his job as soon as he's found his mother. But of course, meeting the crowbar is better  DITF is a lame story. Wasted. Stunts like that killed comics.

I do not like the Post-Crisis Superman but I wouldn't have killed him off. I would have let the old Earth-1 Superman appear and tell the Byrne-Man to go home. ;)

Absolutely not. I would never vote or encourage the killing of a character just because I didn't like them, and certainly I would never encourage, enjoy or allow a superhero story where a kid sidekick was brutally and viciously beaten to death.

Let's put it this way: if I somehow became the Dictator of Comics and could do whatever I wanted, i wouldn't even kill Wolverine.

And Starlin certainly wrote his Jason Todd as unlikeable as he could so he could kill him off. That's pretty obvious.

My stance on death in comics is very consistent: if you are going to kill off a character, it should be in a storyline that is so great that it justifies killing the character; if the characters creator or creators are alive they should be consulted in the decision, death of characters should exceedingly rare, rare to the point that the character dying is a huge part of their history, and finally that it should be final in most cases and if a character IS brought back, then the story where they are brought back should be as good or better than the story where they were killed.

Bucky Barnes was a great character who was killed off in a great story by his co-creator, and was brought back in an equally good story only to be killed off again in a stupid crossover.

Jason Todd was an inoffensive character who was retconned into being a somewhat dislikeable character and was killed off in a **** story, and brought back years later in an equally ****** story and turned into this week's DC Punisher wannabe.

under the hood wasn't so great

but under the red hood sold me on jason todd's return, as did some of the comics written since his return

Yup, the movie was a lot better, it also seemed like they took inspiration from the pre-Starlin take on Jason Todd when they did the flashbacks.

Or punched Nygma's nads
I love how he was depicted in that movie, at least until the "Me or him" moment and shooting Bats instead of Joker

I think the movie really surpassed the comic because it was able to tell the whole story of Jason Todd in one single storyline.

With the comic, it had to be a sequel to Death in the Family, but also be it's own story, and also fit in with Infinite Crisis, etc...it just became too much.

Switching from Doug Mahnke's art to Battle's wasn't much fun either.

Switching to Battle's art never is.

I did enjoy the movie more than the comic as well, though. Black Mask is a lot more fun in motion with a voice, too. :D

It does if it's a Starro baby and you're an agent of the collective.
come on Q man. we both know Starro was lamed til Morrison got a hold of him! sure face hugging alien starfish can be scary but one as part of your outfit is lameo! i do like Oceanmaster but not as Aquaman's main baddie

Anyways Jason Todd sucks! i was around when they had the voting.( funny cause Saturday night live did a parody where you call in to save a lobster Eddie Murphy was going to cook! haha) i think i was going to call in but my dad would have been pissed off i spent money( this was back in the day when you got charged for long distance) for a comic book character and never did. i actually think i wanted to save him. glad the phone lines were busy. dude stealing the ties off the mobile was an awful attempt to give robin a edge that dick never had. That was bull&^%!Dude reminded me of "Vibe" . hahah they both were jerks and both got killed. the best thing ever happened to him was meeting the crowbar Joker was swinging.( see should have listened to bats) he sucks but as a punk jerky quasi hero/ villain he's kind of decent as long as he get beat up!:cwink:... what?!? i said i dont like him!

I love the movie, never read the comic
I think he's one of the biggest nuts, placing the dynamic duo as he did ready for public unveiling

I enjoyed how Winnick wrote Jason and the way Morrison handled him as well. The Tony Daniels version was diabolical though :down

Well this it for the Red *****....I mean Hood. :o

It burns!!! I got the Tamaranian Clap!!!

Love Metropolis. I like DC's fictional cities more than real cities.

My personal favorite is Opal.

Robinson's Starman run developed the city so well that it was almost like a supporting character.

I love Metropolis. I've always loved big cities, I've always wanted to live in one.

I liked it during the B13 virus years.

It really looked like the city of tomorrow. That Metropolis mini starring Jimmy Olson was awesome.

Metropolis ROCKS! I love Fritz lang's movie with the robot lady .... oops silly me wrong Metropolis hehe!

whats not to love you have the man of steel looking over you with his dog and his family. other than maybe getting killed by a stray mad robot or getting the life suck out you by the parasite. i would live there. sure as hell not in Gotham where you would end up as a notch on Mister Zsasz or grinning from Joker Venom... and Anubis needs to stay outta there!that place can be bad for your health!

I like Metropolis, but it's a bit too shiny for my tastes.

It's probably the best place to live in the DC Universe, at least in terms of safety. I mean, if someone tries to mug you in Gotham, you're getting mugged 9 times out of 10, despite how good Batman is at fighting crime. But if someone tries to mug you in Metropolis, within five seconds there'll be a big blue boy scout saving you.

That, and it's nice and shiny.:woot:

Well yeah, sure beats the hell out of Hub City as well...

Not much of a Superman fan but Metropolis has a lot of potential in the overall DC Universe. I'm surprised they haven't done a series in Superman's universe kind of like Gotham Central that follows the Daily Planet reporters or something like that.

They did. Mini Series anyway. Metropolis.

Also, I guess you could count Jimmy Olsen and Lois' comics from the silver age.

Also the safest places to live would be the places that don't have any super heroes. New York. Chicago, etc. They all exist in the DCU. :o

Well, that's it for Metropolis.

Stay Classy Metro
