BATTLING JACK MURDOCK

Why is there a size limit adjustment to the picture posted? That's annoying.
Large images, are small in link.

Where the hell did that image come from?

I like him. Well, all three versions:
The original well-meaning guy who died for refusing to fix a fight
The first Frank Miller version that was the same but, in a moment of weakness, hit his son because his son was getting into fights
The Man Without Fear version where he sold his soul collecting for bookies in addition to the boxing.

All three are a guy who sacrificed so his son could be better than he was. In addition, he is both responsible for everything Matt Murdock became and completely opposed to what he became. Matt Murdock breaks his rules every day by becoming Daredevil, but the core foundation of who he is came from his father.

Aside from that, he's basically just a plot device for an origin story, so it's not worth reading too much into him.

I like this.

Another admirable but flawed person that owes a lot to Frank Miller. His heroic moments are great, but it's the image of him in the movie theater as his friend is impaled by a sai or him nursing his broken hand and not thinking about a news story that stand out to me. In the end, he overcomes his fears to do the right thing and not abandon the story, but it's his flaws that make him interesting.

Pretty much my thoughts. I will say the tension in Matt having this ultra idealized view of his father and how he would view his son's role as Daredevil is kind of a unique hook. Other orphan characters do it to honor a loved one's memory. Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne being the most memorable ones, though one could argue that from time to time writers have touched on how Bruce thinks his parents would judge him as Batman, it's no where nearly as ingrained into the proceedings the way it is with Daredevil.

BEN URICH

Just one of the best damned supporting characters ever. Personally I've kinda always wanted to see him play around more on the Spider-Man side of the street some more. It would be interesting to see Ben and Peter's relationship developed. There's stuff to be mined there. The grizzled veteran reporter that's kept the secret of one hero teamed with Parker, the guy that made his bones in photo-journalism by exploiting a connection to a well known costumed hero. Would they be buddy-buddy right away? How does Ben feel about a guy like Robbie Robertson always cutting Parker such slack? Have Peter and Ben interacted in Parker's early days at the Bugle? Just a few thoughts.

Ben also has the great relationship with his wife that's a core aspect of the character, which is nice, to see that this very mundane aspect is always at the forefront of his mind. It's those little touches that make Ben such a rich supporting character.

Ben is COOL as HELL! like Krypton said a great supporting character. i love how being a good reporter found out DD's secret ID and went to confront him .He wasall was "i could win the Pulitzer prize for this( of course DD denied it) but there are more things in life important than that &*(! it would destroy you and what you do!thats more important than any Bull^&*prize! that dude has integrity for days!Ben is awesome!

Ben's a solid supporting character. Surprised they didn't give him powers yet. :o

I think they know giving him powers would kind of defeat the point of the character.

BTW, I agree that it would be neat having him interact with Peter Parker more. They talk a couple times in volume 2 of Daredevil and it's neat (there was a cool little moment where they both talk about their concern for Matt Murdock without realizing the other one knows just as much as they do about his identity). But there's an odd disconnect where he's a Bugle reporter but only when it concerns Daredevil and not Spider-Man. Of course, iirc, neither is still a Bugle reporter.

Great supporting character, can't wait to see him on Netflix.

Bamf-ometer Score: 8

I like Ben, he's an interesting character. I'm just glad they didn't try to turn him into a super villain or something. Did they ever just up and say that he knew Peters ID? Either way he's a great DD character and I love that they've had him stick to his reporter ethics as much as he could despite everyone trying to murder him at one point or another.

I think it might be too much if Urich knew about Matt and Peter. On the other hand... Maybe that could be the point? Make Ben the one person in the world with the personal ethics strong enough to see through the BS of Parker's marriage selling, reality altering? He could be like, "Pete, what's up with the swinging bachelor life? Weren't you married to that beautiful red head? And didn't you reveal that you were Spider-Man, right before your aunt got shot?" Then Peter remembers, jumps out a window, webs over to Queens to Joe Quesada's old neighborhood, smacks him around for a little bit, calms down, takes a subway to Mary Jane's place, they cry, make plans to visit May's grave in the morning do the mattress rodeo and we can all get back to the way things are supposed to be for Spidey.

I just meant that he got DDs ID and he didn't know him that well but he worked alongside Peter for years and never got a hint of it? I always figured that Robbie, Ben, Betty and Jonah knew for years that Pete was SM and never mentioned it and as for Jonah he just refused to admit it to himself and put a massive mental block because he was incredibly fond of Peter.

Worst picture ever.

I love Black Widow......way before Scarlett Johansson ever was connected to the character. She was a great #2 leader in the Avengers back in the day when she rocked the short hair. She understood Cap's soldier mentality when it wore down the rest of the roster. Smart, sexy and dangerous. Her solo series is terrific.

Jack Murdock -- Good plot device character.

Ben Urich -- Love Ben. I agree, one of the best supporting characters out there.

Black Widow -- Black Widow is great, I second that the current solo is too. Also really liked her in Winter Soldier's first solo series.

Worst picture ever.
.
Haha yeah i gotta agree!:cwink:
Dig some Nat!! she was just another spy to me until she lead "the Champions!" i believe she was the 1st woman to do so in a comic! that was cool! i would follow her long before i would Storm or some of the others! Anybody who can deal with Hercules and Ghost rider and tell them what to do is a bad mama jama! Dig the BW!
