State Your Opinion on a Character!!!! (Reboot) - Part 3

Never cared for the character of Black Widow & I feel the Avengers movies have put too much emphasis on her, where there are far more better, more important characters that could've been used.

The movie character is great as far as having a strong female character goes, but she is much too straight-laced compared to the comic character imo.

I have deep affection for Tasha, one of the earliest comic books I can remember reading was from my older brother's collection. It was Spider-Man vs Widow and I believe she had recently received the super spy suit that simulated Spidey's power set. She clung to walls because of the suit and the bracelets held both grappling lines as well as shoot her energy "widow bites". I looked more into the character and her connection to Daredevil. She seemed a character that was in need of a writer to find her a hook, something that played to the character's strengths and origin. Comics always pulls from every medium, so what's the obvious influence on Widow? The super cool, beautiful, alluring, some what aloof femme fatale spy woman, the type of super competent, highly trained espionage female espionage agent that's been giving the likes of fictional intelligence officers trouble since before Bond. Only in the Mavel U. this plays as a hero with a checkered past (and in the films one that has acts she wishes to atone for) that's in a grayish area because of the lines the character has crossed in her history (KGB Agent then SHIELD asset, ally of Capt. America, Avenger, Daredevil parter, freelance super hero, leader of the Champions... She's done lots, and she's a useful addition in the right writers hands, to any group setting. Recent years have seem an expansion on her somewhat anemic original origin from the Cold War era, and I think it's benefited the character. I am happy to see her expanded role in the Marvel U.

Haha yeah i gotta agree!:cwink:
Dig some Nat!! she was just another spy to me until she lead "the Champions!" i believe she was the 1st woman to do so in a comic! that was cool! i would follow her long before i would Storm or some of the others! Anybody who can deal with Hercules and Ghost rider and tell them what to do is a bad mama jama! Dig the BW!

The Champions should make a comeback, it was like the most random team roster ever xD They even made a joke about it in the current run of Hawkeye "Is that Hercules, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, Angel and Ice-Man?" Had me laughing :woot:

Eh, she's never been anything exceptionally special in the comics. I like her character in the movie, though.

Bamf-ometer Score: 7

I do't hate Black Widow, I truthfully have never read much with her. I'm just not that into spies. And given the fact she shares a world with a man with incredible and multiple suits of armor, a super solider, gods, and people who are born with abilities that could level towns, she doesn't hold my interest that much.
Her placement in Avengers doesn't upset me, its ok, but people seem to gloss over the fact that she's trained in deceit and killing.

The best I remember her in is the Chuck Dixon/Ed Barreto Marvel Knights series.

yeah lost i saw a list recently that said they were #5 of the 10 worst superhero teams ever, exactly for that reason of being random characters toss together. the champs never get any love. I love them though and dont think they were random .they were the misfits and outcast of the MU. a demon everybody was a scared of ,2 mutants that the world hates, a russian spy nobody trusted and a drunken brawler demi god! actually Wolverine would have made sense on that team! I will always love the champs!!
"Caaaause we are the CHAMPIONNNNNNSSSS my friend!"
hell! they had their own theme song!:cwink:

CLINT BARTON

You mean Hawkeye?

Screw all that other stuff. Clint Barton is Hawkeye and is one of the coolest, most unique Avengers (let alone leaders) they ever had.

Yeah, I mean Hawkeye.
This image grabbed my attention, I had to use it.

Oh yes! Brace yourselves folks for my Matt Fraction rant part 2! But more on that later. I love Clint he's cocky, a smartass and sometimes kind of a dick what's not to love. Well he used to be like that but now he's an screw-up that's pushed around by everybody and kind of a *****. Fraction just kind of turned him into a generic nice guy which is the total opossite of what he should be. This is the guy that had the balls to catch cap on his **** numerous times, Clint should have way more backbone and attitude to him but to a point not like when Bendis wrote him when he was just a bad tempered dick and tried to muder Osborn! Hawkeye would never even think about that, hes the guy who gave thunderbolts the avengers dont kill speech where he convinced Mach IV to turn himself in for a murder he comitted back when he was the Beetle and that Wolverine would never be an Avenger. But now he's just mr. nice guy with no backbone to him at all. bad **** keeps happening to him and he just takes it. Fraction also made him cheat on Spider-Woman whcich i can see him doing but when she found out and she broke up with him he just kind of took it and didnt even try to make it right or even apologize from what i remember. He's also very incompetent as a hero in Fraction's run, he's having trouble with beating up russiang gangsters THIS GUY FOUGHT THANOS AND ULTRON FOR GOD'S SAKE! I know it's more realistic to show him that he's just human and being a hero isn't easy cause of that, but i don't read my superhero comics for realism, cause then all the non powered heroes would be pretty incompetent too and they wouldnt have been able to beat up a room full of thugs realistically, Batman wouldnt be Batman. I love Fraction's run dont get me wrong but i hate his characterisation of Clint cause it's completely wrong. Will someone back me up on this? Oh and btw when did he he break up with mockingbird cause after secret invasion they were still married.

There was a mini series with them and that's when they broke up.

I like Clint. Just an all around great character.

That all sounds... Sub-optimal for Clint. Not digging that approach to Barton at all.

I love Clint, love that dude to death. My personal view of the guy is that he's maybe the most attached to being an Avenger over anyone else that's been on the roster. Man is an orphan that never put roots down for most of his life, spent years growing into manhood in a traveling carnival, he's been on the wrong side of the law...But all that changed when he got accepted as an Avenger. That's his family, his everything. Sure, he pisses and moans A LOT, and he leaves a lot too. But Brother Clint always comes back. That's actually why I believed that he would go trying to murder Osborn. That was about more than removing a villain, but one that had intimately harmed the team in Hawkeye's mind by usurping their place and even bringing in super villains to play their roles, using their code names. When family honor gets besmirched, people can go a little crazy. Clint fills a great two for one on the team. He's both the resident wise ass that questions authority, and he's (ideally) the super competent vet hero that has seen it all and done it all at the sides of all the greats. I agree that as his profile has risen in good product (The MCU, AVENGERS:EMH) and bad (AVENGERS ASSEMBLE) the way he's been handled post T-Bolts a lot the time in comics hasn't been to my liking. He's obviously been a popular character but for what ever reason he's never been able to really carry a solo series and I think the elements are all there to do some great solo action adventure/character stuff with him. His love life alone is enough fodder for any series to dive into for personal drama (Widow, Mockingbird, Echo, Spider-Woman, his un-requited love for Wanda), but you've got the orphan stuff and the carnie stuff to explore, and he could use some characters to add to his extremely anemic rogues gallery. Trick Shot and Swordsman are both dead. But you can pass those names along to new characters and borrow some villains from else where. I liked the idea of he and Bullseye having a rivalry. Maybe he could run afoul of Taskmaster more? Hell, I would piggyback onto another character's popularity a bit and set him up in a story against Deadpool. Two smartasses like that as antagonist and protagonist in a story? Seems like a missed opportunity to me. I really wished they had kept him with Bobbi. There is already a dearth of stable, married couples in comics. I don't see what's more interesting about breaking them up when you could do great things exploring two adults in a marriage that is complicated by the usual Marvel absurdities. Again, gonna praise Bendis a little ( I can't say I hate Bendis... But I sure don't love him either) here, but when Clint revealed that stuff about Bobbi having a miscarriage it was this great intimate look into their relationship and made them feel very real for comic book characters. It made the later break up feel even more off. All in all Clint is one of the greats himself and hopefully they will get him on track in the comics to live up to his prominence due to the MCU.

LOVE HAWK!( though i aint too sure about that shirtless Goliath days you got Spider!hahah:cwink: )one of the coolest characters in all of comicdom! this book
hawkeyegreatest2.jpg

was the one that did it for me! all the Avengers including the heavy hitters were captured by the collector!! the only one who wasnt was Hawk. the collector was all Bah! you are just a ^&* archer!! What can you do!!Dude was all hiya "You got any buckles that need swashing!" and let loose a shock arrow after dodging all this crap the collector was throwing at him! giving that old dude a heart attack.the collector was all" i.. i cant believe. i got my ass handed to me?. how could you defeat a elder of the universe?! and the others were all thats why he's an Avenger!!
it seems now all these books want to take that tarnish what it means to be a hero!dude again is like Batman just a normal dude but with the determination and temperament to get the job done!
... people shouldnt go around collecting people anyway! unlike alot of things they dont go up in value!

Wow that actually makes sense and dosen't seem so random anymore XD

I confess enjoying his time as Ronin, and his attempt to assassinate Norman Osborn.

Clint and Mockingbird should be put back together. I like Hawkeye as a married man, not a bachelor.

eh like i said before one shouldnt go around collecting people like beanie babies, but i always dug when he put them in those specimen tubes!it was always a cool way to see them all drawn together!( who cleans that ^&*?!)
dude's okay as a villain but if you get your butt kicked buy a mere mortal with a bow and arrow . you might wanna rethink that whole omnipotent bad guy thing.
i thought Benceio del toro( however you spell his name) was bit too campy and not threatening in the flicks.
the collector's alright i guess.

That was some pretty good casting. Del Toro looks exactly like that mofo.

Meh. Outside of the Champion of the Universe, the Elders mostly suck.
