Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 4

Having seen this a second time, I cooled on it a little bit. It's still an entertaining, well-made film, but it lacks the punch I was looking for. The opening scene with Georgie was pitch perfect, but the rest of the film was never able to live up to it. The same applies to Skarsgard specifically. He was absolutely mesmerizing in that opening scene. Just superb. But for the rest of the film, he's not given much to work with. He's sort of relegated to making weird faces and noises and not much else.

The dynamic with the kids was great, and perhaps the strongest part of the film.

The opening was to set the tone of horror. The rest is pretty much a throwback to 80s Amblin Spielberg stuff, only R rated. And it did work.

I didn't find the movie particularly scary after the first sequence. That's my issue. One review criticized the tonal inconsistencies the film seemed to have, and I suppose I have to agree with it. When I left the theater, I didn't get the impression that these kids would be petrified at the thought of returning to Derry 27 years later.

WB's IT has now grossed $666M worldwide--Stephen King dances with the devil on this day.

With 2.4 million this weekend aided by the Halloween bump, 'IT' registered it's best weekend drop yet. 327 million is pretty much locked.

Good.

haha, IT making $666m WW just in time for Halloween. Couldn't make it up!!

I had a couple of Pennywise kids that came to my house, but my favorite one was a Twisty. :p

Incredible movie! Pure cinema, and a wonderful adaptation of Stephen King's book. One of my favorites this year.

I'm very curious how they intend to make this work. Personally, I can't help but wonder if TV is the best medium to adapt this story in rather than film.

Well, they just showed that the story is perfect for the big screen, so I disagree.

The only thing I'm somewhat worried about is the script. I hope Gary Dauberman and Jeffrey Jurgensen knock it out of the park, even without previous drafts from Gary Fukunaga to draw upon.

I know its for the best but WB really should've thought about giving them a 2 film deal so we oculd get the sequel in 2018.

I'm glad they didn't.
I'll explain myself. Not committing right away to a two-movie deal probably helped them fleshing this out as a one and done movie. Which helps the movie immensely. A continuation is clearly teased, but it works as a stand-alone story about these kids growing up. So they didn't play the "save-game," and put as much as possible into this one.
It felt like a proper movie, and not the first part of a TV miniseries (lots of blockbusters and franchise movies feel too much like they're TV episodes rather than movies these days).
I really prefer this kind of filmmaking, and let's just hope that the kids won't be TOO grown up by the time they're filming the flashback sequences next year.

First Wonder Woman and now IT. WB is making very little sense this year. Both films are great popcorn movies, but neither one possesses any particular Oscar-qualities.

Best Picture, Best Director, any acting awards? Of course not.

Makeup, though? Costumes? Production design? Absolutely.

Chastain Open To Joining The “IT” Sequel

With the “IT” follow-up putting the focus on adult versions of the characters, and with the first films overwhelming box-office success and strong reviews, it comes as little surprise that fans have been fantasy casting the roles in the film.
One of the most obvious is Jessica Chastain as Beverly. Chastain previously worked with director Andres Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti on “Mama” and seems a perfect fit for the part. During a recent interview with Screen Rant whilst out promoting “Molly’s Game,” Chastain was asked about the possibility of her taking on the role. She says:
“[Well, I love Andy and Barbara. I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, Mama. His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so… we’ll see. Listen, of course, I want to work… they’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.”
No actors have yet been cast as the grown-up version of the Losers Club. “IT: Chapter 2” is aiming to begin production next year for a September 2019 release

She is wrong for the role. She looks like someone in her mid 40s. She looks nothing like Beverly. They can find a young actress and bleach her hair.

Nah. Chastain is perfect.

Umm Bev is supposed to be around 11 in the first film. 27 years pass between the first and second film.

11+27=38

And the actress playing Bev is 15.

15+27=42

So as far as age is concerned Jessica Chastain (40 years old) is age appropriate.

Um, what?

In the film, Bev is 13 years old in 1989. Chapter Two will be set 27 years after the events of the first film which means it be set during 2016. Chastain is 40 years old which is the exact age that Bev will be for the film.

And Chastain looks like she can easily pass as an adult version of Sophia Lillis.

I'm trying to rationalize this post as much as I can, but I'm still very much confused.
