Steven Spielberg's Falling Skies

I was trying to convince you to leave the show--and this thread--alone.

If I lie and say "yes," will you?

The show has clear problems, but your right..

..the flow of this thread is not really active and there is not much talk on here outside of a very few people discussing how great the show (and really not even in that much detail) is and how people who voice these opinions are thought of like trolls.

Maybe if the show was as great as you'd say there would be more than 10 or so posts since last weeks show.

The show's season 2 premiere got 4.5 million viewers , a very disappointing debut.

So yeah, I'm thinking of calling this thread and the show quits.

Still decent considering it was competing against the highest rated NBA Finals series in years.

Given that the series premiere only scored about 1.5 million more than that, it's not like the new season has tanked or anything... plus, it's cable and, as rashad mentioned, it was going up against NBA finals.

But, sure, lets keep searching for reasons to discredit the show. :o

That skitter with the red eye iis a f***** problem! lol Definitely the Leader or something. Crazy how strong it is and how much power it has.

Dude..its a 25% drop in viewership. That's significant.

I'm aware of the NBA finals factor, but i looked at a lot of the other nights that week when there were games, and many shows were not drastically off...

It's pretty weak that any modern show worth it's salt would say to excuse reduced ratings "but we were up against the NBA finals"..

At any rate, the best thing for this show, which I guess you didnt catch that i was sorta rooting for it and certainly wanting it to be good. It needs to up it's game and it needs to improve.

So I'm not making excuses to hate the show...I want it to be good.

So don't make excuses why it has under performed.

Damn [blackout]RIP Jimmy[/blackout]

Is it the lack of weapons that all 176 people left in the group aren't trained to fight and carry weapons, why limit the fighters to what 20 or less is it?

While everyone's focusing on Tom, Ben is the one the camp really needs to be aware of. He's been a little reckless. Something is up with that Lead skitter, Red Eye. What was it doing there at the end? Lots of mystery to unfold there. The tension between Tom and Pope has been brewing for awhile and it finally came to a head. Pope is a great anti character and I can't wait to see what he does next. Messed up what happened to Jimmy. I expect a few more casualties before season's end however. The newest character we meet in Avery Churchill arrives and brings word from the Continental Congress of a new central command established in Charleston. I'm guessing this where we get introduced to Terry O'Quinn's character.

The previews for next week look intense. It looks like Weaver finds his daughter. The stuff in the alien's harness factory is gonna be wild.

uhm...not sure what's different, but they made me: SPOILER :::

Sad to see Jimmy die. And I HATED Jimmy's character on the show last season :::::

Good episode.

So, wait, are Hal and Maggie banging, or what?

No way. He's too much of a good ol' boy for that.

That's true. But he COULD be, lol.

I think that's why the introduced that new character who has a thing with the med student girl. Probably somewhere in between the seasons, the writers were sitting around and one of them said, "Hey, wait a minute... do you guys realize that EVERY female character except Moon Bloodgood has a thing for Hal? We should probably do something about that."

Pfffft, he's a guy, the world has been eaten by crawley green things, he's basically the only guy in the show that seems to have access to a shower and hair product, you can bet he's seeking comfort in the willing arms of all those young women that cross his path!

If I was in this male's position, I would certainly be seeking the attention of Maggie.

I just thought I'd pass along this early, EARLY tidbit. I don't know if I should feel bad for breaking this here, but he shared it in a public forum with no disclaimer, so:

Apparently, Falling Skies has been greenlit for a 3rd season already, with writers already starting work on it. The guy that announced it in another forum I belong to is an actual writer for the USA network, and all of us from the forum know it. I won't say what show yet, since I don't want him to get in trouble for letting another network's info out. Anywho, here's the actual quote:

Shows like this are tough because its about an invasion which requires lots of FX. So the show to balance this has long periods of no aliens probably to balance out budget. To me it sometimes impacts the pacing of the show.

I like it but I question if this show will make it past Season 2.

no need to question... season 3 was greenlit a long time ago and one of my friends is already back in the writer's room with the rest of the staff breaking story.

The writer's announcement was obviously in reply to someone doubting whether the show will make it to a third season. And yes, he is legitimately a writer for USA, and multiple people from my other forum even know him personally.

I know, I know. Falling Skies is on TNT, and he's on USA. He's still a show writer living in Los Angeles. I assume they're a somewhat tight-knit group?

It could be that it was green lit for scripts and plotting but does not still mean it will be a go...or that the proposed budget won't be unaffected.

The truth is if it is scoring 3-4 million viewers per new episode , it will probably have an option to stay...at a reduced budget.

I do have the further observation that "no budget for alien encounters" should never be an excuse for the quality of this show.

Look at Game of Thrones...it's largely conversational, largely relatively unknown actors..they get around a lot of large scale battles and big budget scenes with creativity and quality in the dialogue, acting, and flow of the sets.

While it's true that "budget" shouldn't be the only excuse for the quality of the show it's a contributing factor (some of the time).

Battlestar Galactica could have sucked, but they lucked into having the right people in the right positions to make a quality show for two seasons.

Hopefully Falling Skies will continue to improve with age. This season has started stronger than last season..and they've made casting decisions in just 3 episodes that I completely agree with.

Hopefully...by the end of the season they'll still be pulling in 3+ million weekly viewers and the budgetary constraints won't be visible to everyone.

The beauty of having 10 episode seasons is there's not a lot of room for filler. I think they've found a better balance between the alien/sci-fi aspects, action, the human drama and mystery that continues to unfold with each episode this season.
