I think that would be a fairly easy distinction to make.
It's difficult for me. On one hand, it's got a great post apocalyptic feel to it. But that is dumbed down every other episode or so with your classic 'after school special' sub plot. Feels like an end of the world tv show, put on by the Disney children's channel.
Yet, I love the premise, and a lot of the delivery. But there are other parts I just make me roll my eyes. I think the main problems for me revolve around 1)the eldest brother, who is so naive, and can I say stupid, that it drives me up the wall, and 2)Doctor what's her face. Moon Bloodgood is awesome, she's hot, and a great actress, but every time she comes on screen, the show feels suddenly dumbed down.
I'm happy this season that they offed the two secondaries that were most annoying (the fix it guy, and the white rapper) though I think they were made intentionally annoying so that we as an audience could feel good about ourselves when they actually were killed.
IMO, the show lacks that feeling of loss and desperation, for me atleast.
Yet, I like the concept. And the other main characters are pretty solid. Ben's a little weak, but his role is a tough one to pull off. Pope, the badboy, needs to be a little badder, and also a little more useful (in season 2 atleast). But the rest are good characters and well played.
I guess in the end, I like the show, but it's all a little too happy when they get back to base camp. Life in this show should suck, both out in the wilderness, or at home base. I feel that that is what the show is lacking for me.
