Steven Spielberg's Falling Skies

Cool episode. I hope they won't drag things out and have everyone be split up only to be reunited at the end of the season. I mean how many times have I seen that story device be used?

Let's hope there's some real quality action later on!

Oh boy, I'm about half way in through the season 4 premiere but what the hell is this?

First season was very weak, two & three were entertaining to me, although I'm not sure I'll risk saying they were actually "good".

But here, the only thing I have to say (although I've yet to finish the episode) is: what a mess, a disaster.

I walked away saying WTH

Was the alien in the last shot Cochise?

Despite it's flaws I enjoyed the S4 premiere and believe it has a lot of potential with the new direction it's going. The main problem I have with this show are the time jumps. It always glosses over the predicaments and conflicts the characters face e.g. when Cochise was introduced at the end of S2 leaving the audience unsure if he was a friend or foe. Then the opening of S3 some months later we see Cochise and his kind have become allies of the 2nd Mass. Now they've glossed over the development of Tom and Anne's alien hybrid daughter Alexis, who happens to age rapidly each time separates from her, and is in charge of some sanctuary that mind controls their community into believing they're safe from the invasion. It's becoming more and more apparent that Alexis is just some plot device for the show. Poor Tom he never got to see her literally grow up. Alexis and Tom hardly have a father/daughter relationship unlike with his sons Hal, Ben, and Matt. If there was a relationship it was skipped over by the 22 days later opening of S4 before the 2nd Mass got separated. Also very convenient after the ambush in the opening that Ben was somehow put in a coma for 4 months guess it wouldn't make sense why Matt looks a year older if that didn't happen.

My worry is that there are too many Different plots going on.. The group is now in... 4(?) different groups and I'm nervous they may have brought in too many different stories. Cut one out and it would be okay IMHO...

Nice to see Ryan Robbins get a bigger part (though his Continuum role might be an indicator to a possible demise soon)

Yeah I see your point. But I kind of like it that the whole 2nd Mass. is spread out at different locations instead being isolated in one spot e.g. Charleston. Tom was the main one who often got to travel away from Charleston last season.

I get the distinct feeling that Hal's going to be on the express train to the afterlife, and soon. Which is a shame, because I like Hal.

It's been awhile since a major character bit the dust, and the scenery is getting a little crowded. Hal seems like the prime candidate. As he's matured, he's basically become Tom-Light. And, being that Tom isn't going anywhere, there's little need for a Tom-Light running around. Ben and Matt have been given their own personalities and stories, whereas Hal has largely been shuffled aside.

Plus it certainly seemed like, tonight, they were laying the groundwork to hook Maggie up with Ben. Which is creepy in its own right.

Personally, I hope I'm wrong. Hal's my personal favorite of the three Mason boys. But I'm sensing nothing but bad times ahead for him.

So it looks like a third alien race is on its way

That's more like it, solid episode, the premiere was very disorienting with some weird editing & continuity, clumsy overall, this is much better, the ending was intriguing. God, Lexie looks atrocious though, ugh.

Maggie sure does like them Mason boys, looks like Tom may have a shot yet if Anne goes further off the reservation when she finds out that Lexie is now a teenage forest fairy type thing.

I like the Pope and Weaver pairing, two ornery grizzle merchants! :D

Looking forward to seeing what this new threat is that have the Ishfini all worried, and I hope Cochise gets Matt out of that creepy brainwashing school soon.

I enjoyed this ep. The ghetto escape was cool.

I've liked Lourdes is past seasons, but this season thus far, she's become annoying as ****. Now that Anne is back with her, hopefully she'll pull her head out of Lexi's behind.

I'm not sure what they've got in mind, but this seems like a foolish gesture to me. Why introduce some whole other unseen threat? Why can't we actually start progressing the Human/Espheni war? It's just baffling that they keep just piling on new crap each season rather than ever moving the story forward.

I'm... a little weirded out by whatever they're cultivating between Maggie and Ben. Her character plays so much older and more mature than Ben does, that it just doesn't feel right. Connor Jessup plays the teenager role quite well, enough so that I think it's just going to be really awkward if there's any romance between the two characters.

Well the pickings are slim, and it may just be a case of Ben reminding her so much of Hal.

I feel like a twist is coming where Maggie isn't as free from Lexie's influence as we may think and she is being used as a way to control Ben.

I'm not so much blaming the character as I am the writing. They're including it exclusively FOR the fake drama/shock value. I just think it's in very poor taste and doesn't make a lot of sense.

You know, I like the series, but the way this season has been going, I don't feel all that bad about abandoning it for The Strain tonight. It just hasn't been all that thrilling for me.

I'm enjoying this season quite a bit. Last weeks last episode was great. But I was watching The Strain tonight regardless.

Just caught up on last weeks ep, Pope as a post apocalyptic NFL knight was gold! :D The tentacle inpregantion....not so much. :(

With each passing season they've kind of tried to "reboot" the show's own mythos and start fresh. This year it hasn't really stuck the landing.

What in the world is going on this season?! These have to be new writers for this season right?

I am really hating the whole Lexi story, what is she Storm from the XMen now? I really hope that arch goes away and fast. Also the Nazi youth camp is really is lazy writing imo, the aliens couldn't come up with a better way to make the humans fall in line? I mean the aliens didn't do any research how the first Nazi youth moment did not work out the first time in human history?

This show has too many plots going on at once, too many moving parts. Less is more. Oh and Lourdes I want to punch her in the face! :cmad: Her character needs to die asap, along with Lexi.

I'll give the show a few more viewings but sadly it may be off my DVR record list soon.

/End rant.

I also watched FX's The Strain over this last night and caught the encore instead. Even though I like Falling Skies I noticed the decline in quality immediately. Anyways I'm glad Matt finally escaped that Espheni camp b/c that subplot wasn't going anywhere for me. I also agree about Lourdes being annoying as ever this season. Every season the writers try to give her a different personality or use her as some sort of plot device b/c despite being a medical intern she's mostly useless. I still managed to enjoy last night's ep. I did feel bad for what happened to Weaver's daughter. And Mira Sorvino seems like a nice addition to the show.

I'm a fan of the show, but I admit I've been kind of bored with the new season. it feels like the show has lost focus and feels like it's starting to drag on.

I mean....how long can they sustain the story without it starting to feel old?

really, the only thing that keeps me tuning in is Lexi. And that's mainly cuz I want to see her use her powers and also explore her backstory.

and honestly, I'm more interested in the Espheni and their backstory. It's amazing that we're, what, 4 seasons in, and we honestly don't know that much about who the bad guys are.

where do they come from? what's their real motive?

a few eps ago, it seemed to hint that they were actually preparing for a larger threat?

so, what, at the end of this season, they're gonna introduce us to a brand new alien species? the real big bad??

it just feels........the show has lost its focus overall.

Mason & Co should just find a workable ship & find another planet. Unless they start killing off some of these races. They are gonna have to change things up
