Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

Venca is ****ed up and I see what y’all was doing Duffers with that Elm Street like music at the end.

What I really dug is the Dream Warriors reference.

I was legit disappointed they didn't use the song when they were montaging but I suppose it was too on the nose.

I really enjoyed this season. They kinda delivered in the last 2 episodes, although i feel they lost there nerve with the characters who died! Or didnt die! Still a very entertaining season.

The stuff with Will, to me, is... difficult. I'm gonna hold off on any opinions of it until we see how it wraps up. But if it doesn't justify the sheer amount of build up and dancing around that they're giving it?

Yeah I'm gonna be pissed.

I'm fine with them having a massive buildup over it. It's a great way to reflect what it was like to be gay in those times. Some either accepted it and lived with it despite the social stigma (ala Robin) or they internalised it to the point of it tearing them apart because of that social stigma (ala Will, currently). There's definitely enough to establish that he is and for now that scene with Jonathan in the pizzeria is a damn good start for what should hopefully be Will's character arc next season.

But yeah, the Duffers have gotta bring it next season. Otherwise, it's 100% queer baiting.

I think they will and I'm wondering will the next new character be for Will to explore everything. I don't want to really see a big grandiose reveal where he blurts it out for drama, instead just a really organic situation like Robin seems to be having.

For what it's worth Noah absolutely killed it in the moments he did have this season and there was a particular scene in Vol 2 that just broke my heart. I felt it. I really hope season 5 is his time to shine as the other 3 young guys got their time to shine in season 4.

I liked Jonathan this season, he was super intense in previous seasons for good reason of course, but I enjoyed seeing more relaxed due to....er....some help. :p

Edit just to say his moment will Will felt really genuine between 2 brothers. An honest acknowledgement of how we're all going through our own stuff but still here for each other.

I powered through Vol. 2 last night.

Episode 8 could have been roped in with Vol. 1 because the finale felt like an event all its own but Eleven’s escape was cool. I didn’t think that they’d kill off Dr. Brenner before the final season either. Also, I did get a little choked up at Will’s conversation with Mike in the van. Maybe it’s a testament to how good of an actor Noah Schnapp is even with that dumb haircut he can knock an emotional scene like that or his later scene with Jonathan out of the park.

Episode 9 left me emotionally drained by the end.

I legitimately thought that Eddie was going to make it out of the season. Him dying in Dustin’s arms gutted me more than any other death on the show. I also take the blame for that by changing my avatar to Eddie in the days leading up to Vol. 2. I’m sorry I jinxed it, guys. :csad: At least he was given one of the most badass scenes in the entire show with his Metallica concert in the Upside Down before he went.

I was on the edge of my seat seeing damn near everyone in danger but I thought that of the most shocking parts was the jock leader’s blink-and-you-miss-it death which was pretty graphic if you hit the pause button. You could see his rib cage as Vecna’s rift tore him in half. But it did feel like the jock subplot was only there because there needed to be a reason for Lucas not to be able to wake up Max.

And speaking of Max, my god, I felt so numb seeing what happened to her. Lucas’s reaction made me lose it and since last night I can’t stop thinking about how she’s blind and broken now. I’m sure that nothing else too terrible will happen to her in the final season after having gone through this but I hated seeing her suffer like that. :csad:

I was so broken up about Eddie and Max that I had no more tears to shed at El and Hopper’s reunion. It was a sweet moment before the more bitter final scene.

Overall, Stranger Things 4 as a whole was second only to the first season for me. I’m both anticipating and dreading the final season at the same time. I just don’t think it needs to be quite as long as 4 was. I’m going to chalk that up to the prolonged show absence because of Covid as well as a lot of Vecna backstory to cram in. Either way, even in the chance that it does turn out to be as long I probably won’t complain much because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this show.

I had no tears left at that point either, I just smiled.

It certainly delivered which is great. The battle was top notch which many shows usually fail at.

I always thought Stranger Things was entertaining, but it was never one of my favorite shows. But I really got into it during the last month while doing a rewatch. I've become so invested in these characters. Volume 2 was the most excited I've been to watch something in years. And It was fantastic. What a great season.

Kinda of sucks
we lost Eddie, he was really a good character. If we had to lose someone I wouldn't mind the long hair hippy over Eddie.
I still didn't care about the grownups adventure in Russia. That could've been cut completely. Overall this was a good season. I enjoyed it.

You mean Argyle and while I agree with the sentiment that change would have meant a lot less to the story. And Russia definitely could have been shortened. I think overall the Russia arc worked out but if there was fat to trim off the season, it was their adventure in Russia.

This dividing into two volumes thing i think showed netflix that they need to start breaking up their shows more often instead of dropping the whole season at once. Stranger Things is now trending and buzzing more than ever and i think it was in large part due to the one month gap between volumes. It built anticipation and hype and made these episodes an event. I definitely think we’re going to get at LEAST two volumes for season five.

I could see season 5 being split into three acts and them releasing the episodes as such.

Here's some of the things I hope happen in season 5:

- Finally, finally have Will come out to Mike or literally anyone else because I think they're dragging this plotline way too much this. Though, him talking about it with Robin would also be an interesting choice imo since she would be only one to understand him.

- Have the parents and townsfolks a bit more involved in the main plot. The secret is going to be out soon once Vecna and the rest of the Upside Down's monsters start pouring over the rifts and cause a rampage.

- Going off from the previous one, I feel like they're gonna need to up the body count and destruction big time. Stakes are higher than they've ever been and there should be major consequences to Hawkins' gradual decay.

- Some clarification on what exactly happened to Owens, Murray, Yuri and Antonov/Enzo. Even if the former two are the only ones likely to return in season 5.

- Will needs to be instrumental in Vecna's demise. He's suffered too much because of him, it would be the ultimate catharsis moment for him.

- Sullivan and his soldiers arriving in Hawkins still with the intent to hunt down Eleven, only to find out what's really going on and maybe helping out once Vecna and his army start crossing through.

- Epic final battle to save Hawkins. They could go all out here if they want to with the action and visuals. Just the mental imagery is awesome enough for me lol

All I ask is that Steve gets his happy ending next season :argh:

Steve and Robin continue to be the most pure and lovely friendship. Their little talk in episode 8, several small gestures they share in episode 9, and then of course his proud little smile at the end when she talks with Vickie is just so heart warming.

S2 had issues, S3 brought it back and S4 has been great, i've really enjoyed it .

Yeah there's the usual BS things like people magically healing from injuries really quick and stuff and some of the Russia side story was perhaps a little weak or even redundant... which kinda ties in to that my only real gripe or criticism is that some of the main players felt very side-lined for much of the season.. but i enjoyed how it all came together in the end.

Vecna has been a great villain, i'm not sure if they knew where it was going at the starts of s1 but it all really feels quite natural and like it ties together quite well. Sometimes you can tell there is retroactive storytelling going on and i don't get that sense here, which is good. The ending is satisfying enough for now but also leaves you looking forward to next one.

Realistically I knew that Eddie was gonna be the one to die but I think they did quite a good job in the last couple eps of doing just enough to give you just a little doubt about a couple of the others too..

One of the things I think the show does best is both introducing new characters and the handling/how it makes you like characters which would perhaps, traditionally (or in lesser hands), be unlikeable or annoying... Steve (in particular), Johnathon, Nancy, Billy, Robin, Eddie could all have easily been very stereotypical/one dimensional and very unlikeable but they're all great!

Russia was there to give the adults something to do, lol. Boring!

Speaking of the adults in Russia can someone explain

where the HECK did that sword Hopper used come from?! I mean it was cool and badass but did i miss a scene where they built that sword up?!:funny:

It was a weapon left on the ground from the earlier prison fight between the prisoners and the Demogorgan. The reveal did take me out for a second because I had the same reaction at first before remembering :hehe:
