Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

Im going to binge them all tomorrow when I have more time. :)

How is this show able to get me not just once, but twice, both in scenes of Max running to the exact same song? :hehe:

Also, really glad episode 7 was immediately available to watch or else I would’ve been absolutely p*ssed if I had to wait another week. :funny:

Sadie Sink's back must be killing her because she carried these three episodes.

I liked Vol. 2 overall but I feel like they're setting themselves up to cram a lot of Vecna/Upside Down story into the two hour finale.

The strongest part was Max's storyline. I teared up at her waking up and Lucas being there. Nice to see her finally back with the whole gang, but what confused me is that I thought Vecna "killing" her in the S4 finale did permanent damage to her eyes, especially after this:

But I guess not? I don't know, seemed like it was way harder to come back from than the broken bones.

The hospital scene and Karen coming to the rescue was cool, but it made me think all the more they should have just killed off Ted Wheeler. Nobody even brought him up, he's in that hospital too. :o

The group's reaction to Will coming out was sweet too.

The whole Dustin and Steve fight with them making up later is kind of spelling doom. Funny how everyone is so protective of Steve now compared to the first season where the show had us rooting for Jonathan. Now it's the complete opposite. I don't think Jonathan will die because I can't see them putting Joyce through that but I wouldn't care if he did at this point.

One nitpick I have is that for having top billing in this, Winona Ryder sure is sidelined here. I guess that comes with having so many main characters and her not realistically having much to do but it's more obvious here than in the previous seasons. But I guess her role is better than Dustin's mom or Lucas and Erica's parents this season. Do they even care at all where their kids are in a quarantined town? :o

I'll be there when the finale drops on New Year's Eve. I was really tempted to see it in theaters but I think I'll be fine just watching reaction videos for it after the fact.

As of right now since it's almost done, I'd rank S5 directly in the middle behind S1 and S4 and above S3 and S2. Depending on how the finale goes, that could maybe push it up past 4.

As a standalone 'scene' on its own, Wills "big scene" isnt bad, and very sweet and endearing but when looking at it from an entire episode/season/series, it feels very random and out of place, almost as if it was thought of last minute and just inserted. Everything going is just put on pause and with what I feel like no build up (of course...I havent rewatched the series so maybe im just forgetting about said buildup)

Noah Schnapp is doing really well this season with Will's heightened storyline. My mom cried during his big moment in episode 7, it was sweet. I can't wait for the finale, it's been such a long journey.

It did feel slightly out of place but Will was maybe thinking he could die later that day as well as some/all of his friends and family. So it was a then or never thing but it probably could have happened earlier.

Sadie Sink and Noah Schnapp are definitely the standouts of this season so far, but Nell Fisher deserves a special shout out too because for such a young actress and one I'm not all that familiar with outside of Evil Dead Rise she's also been consistently great this season as well.

Season 4 is still superior IMO, but I actually thought Volume 2 was much better paced than Volume 1 and while I have no idea how this finale will go Im excited for it and I'm sure it's going to be emotional.

I was kind of thinking, "With possible death coming, this is what you're worried about?". That and I was expecting more than one person to say they already knew. I was glad he was received positively by everyone.

Im still interested. :D I dont mind an all new story.

I'm halfway episode 7 and I gotta say the show has become pure nonsense at this point.
I miss the simplicity of season 1 so much. This is a chore to get through.

Just finished. Overall i thought this was a solid set of episodes and I am amped for the big finale.

But like @DyeLorean said above me it did feel like a chore to get through at times. Something about the pacing and the constant exposition: it felt like we were getting endless scenes of planning and strategizing and theorizing and telling not showing and i was just like “can we just DO something, already?!” And everytime something was ABOUT to happen it would cut away to Max and Holly wandering in a field and the momentum got cut off.

But the thing with the Duffer Brothers is they put you through these lulls but when the action and terror comes it is A+ and gripping. But i do feel like the show was biting off more than it could chew and this whole Vecna/Upside Down plot had become so convoluted for no reason. And so they find themselves bending over backwards to explain things.
