Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

The Duffers stumbling though this media tour the last few days only makes it worse.
I'll agree with this part.

What happened with the military after blowing up the Upside Down?

ROSS DUFFER: In that 18-month gap? I suppose there's not much else to do. You can't explore this other dimension. There's no Eleven to chase anymore because she's gone. So, my guess is they just sort of slowly dismantled operations and left town.

What do you mean "my guess is"? You wrote the thing.

I thought they got a lot right in the finale but there were a lot of loose ends there.

For me the biggest hole in the whole series is the total lack of journalists or media around these events.

This one in particular is incredibly bizarre because they have a character that they could've used to explain all this away in Dr. Owens, except they just did not follow up on him at all.

He could have come back too but I guess we're led to believe that the military either let him go or he died in their custody? Again, I stand by what they should have done was kept Brenner around to play the Linda Hamilton part this season as the overarching human big bad since season 1. Instead they had him die in season 4 and it felt sort of "....Okay. Can we get back to Hawkins? That's where the real action is."

If they really wanted to use Linda Hamilton (and honestly her playing a nothing part aside, it's always nice to see her) they could have probably found a place for her in season 4 when they had like 13 hours of time to play with. Or, more sensibly, they could have had a little more screentime and explanation this season. They can claim all they want that nothing was deleted but to paraphrase the characters at the end of the finale, I don't believe it. I think someone (Netflix most likely) was nervous about the season 4 backlash complaining how long it was and wanted to get right to the point here. Which final seasons generally can do provided they don't introduce any significant new characters and storylines, and Linda Hamilton's character was intended to be that.

A pretty mediorce end, all things considered. I enjoyed the plot with new-comer Derrick, but the existing characters felt really played out to me. This season looked a lot more like a Netflix product than usual as well which was pretty disappointing. It's fine. The Duffers are doing their best to spin it into a GoT level failure though, for some reason haha

Boy the reactions to this thing are all over the map, man. I personally really really enjoyed the finale and felt it got the important things right.

The Duffers definitely bit off more than they could chew from some of the plot lines that never got resolved but this is nowhere near GoT level failure IMO.
