Sudan arrests British teacher for naming bear Mohammed

You really make an ass of yourself when you make assumptions about someone that you don't know.
Of COURSE they want to do it in this country.
They want WORLDWIDE Theocracy.
Where the f*** did you get the idea that I don't know that?
Please let me know.
Your comment about the tea party. Maybe that was you trying to be funny.

Your comment about the tea party. Maybe that was you trying to be funny.
No, it was me expressing horror about all the psycho, deluded ass****s who want to kill anyone who doesn't believe exactly as they do....that want to kill me because I don't revere their imaginary friend.

Do you understand now?

Wilhelm would you name your kid Frosted Flakes ever? I mean its the best cereal in the world!

Have you seen the new campbell soups commericals wilhelm they have a new singer, its like some quiet voiced woman!

I mean its not the spazzing chick who wants you to have campbell soups hooked up to iv's and given to you through your veins.

We have it a lot easier Campbell Soup Commercial-wise than we had it in the early days when the girl from the Exorcist sang it, yes.

Wow, Slim...got your ass handed to you yet again in this thread.

Sad! You have an entire Sudanese government bringing down Islamic wrath on a 54 year-old British woman......maniacs outside the courthouse waving knives calling for her death and all you can pull out is some militia in Sudan who say they are raping and pillaging for the Ten Commandments??

Have you ever read the 10 commandments??? And not once are they mentioned as Christians.

This equivalency thing is tired. There is no comparison to what I can turn on my TV and see almost everyday.

Oh...guess what?? Bin Laden just put out another tape threatening Europe to stop partnering with America! The hits just keep on coming.

Moderates need to speak up. London should go in there with military force after she is released. If they did it now, they would just kill her.

Let me rephrase your question: "Ray...babe...if this kind of over-the-top stuff is always going down in organized religion, how is the world suppose to feel??

I'll answer that for you.

The world will look at religion as opium for the masses and people who think and act self-righteous like you about their religion merely adds fuel to the fire.

Let me end with an article about a wise man I greatly respect that can sum up this post much better than what I can.

No Ray. I said what I meant. Why is this "Over-the-top" violent reaction always coming from the Islamic camp??? Whether it was Salman Rushdie, The Dutch Cartoonist, The 3 men in Turkey who's necks were slashed for giving out Bibles , the Man who wanted to switch from Muslim to Christian in Pahkistan or now this harmless 54 year old woman. Why this kind of reaction?? Why?

And don't try to spin some Maxist quote to turn this back on me because you have yet to answer the obvious.

You don't see budhists, hindus or anybody else reacting to religious offenses like this group.

And if the moderates out number the nuts, why can they take control??? And if that cannot happen, then can a legitimate question be raised as to whether it may be the other way around?

Moderates need to speak up.
Hahaha, these psychos want to kill a woman because her STUDENT named a Teddy Bear, and you think they give one rat's ass about anything a MODERATE has to say?!

lol

Stop blaming the SANE people for the actions of the INsane people.
Contrary to Hippy-Dippy New Age bulls*** bumper stickers, etc., people do not HAVE the power to change the world.

I want Bush and Cheney executed for War Crimes.
Guess what.
I can speak, and yell and protest and blog and write letters every day for the rest of my life.
It ain't gonna happen.

It's the same here.
An Extremist, by definition, thinks a Moderate is full of it.

The problem here is not Moderates, but rather human nature and religion's poisonous effect on the simple-minded.
It's not going away unless you nuke all Islamic Theocracies, which I'm sure you'd love.

Don't forget what is currently happening in Burhma from the Islamic group in control of the Government executing the Buddhist Monks.

At least some of the moderates are being heard now...

Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Sudanese authorities of "gross overreaction."

"This case should have required only simple common sense to resolve. It is unfortunate that the Sudanese authorities were found wanting in this most basic of qualities," he said.

The Muslim Public Affairs Committee, a political advocacy group, said the prosecution was "abominable and defies common sense."

The Federation of Student Islamic Societies, which represents 90,000 Muslim students in Britain and Ireland, called on Sudan's government to free Gibbons, saying she had not meant to cause offense.

"We are deeply concerned that the verdict to jail a schoolteacher due to what's likely to be an innocent mistake is gravely disproportionate," said the group's president, Ali Alhadithi.

The Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim youth organization, said Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir should pardon the teacher.

"The Ramadhan Foundation is disappointed and horrified by the conviction of Gillian Gibbons in Sudan," said spokesman Mohammed Shafiq.

Calls in Sudan for execution of Briton

By MOHAMED OSMAN, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago

KHARTOUM, Sudan - Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad."

In response to the demonstration, teacher Gillian Gibbons was moved from the women's prison near Khartoum to a secret location for her safety, her lawyer said.
The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gibbons, who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes.
They massed in central Martyrs Square outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed. They did not try to stop the rally, which lasted about an hour.
"Shame, shame on the U.K.," protesters chanted.
They called for Gibbons' execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."
Gibbons' chief lawyer, Kamal al-Gizouli, said she was moved from the prison for her safety for the final nine days of her sentence.
"They moved this lady from the prison department to put her in other hands and in other places to cover her and wait until she completes her imprisonment period," he said, adding that she was in good health.
"They want, by hook or by crook, to complete these nine days without any difficulties, which would have an impact on their foreign relationship," he said.
Several hundred protesters, not openly carrying weapons, marched from the square to Unity High School, about a mile away, where Gibbons worked. They chanted slogans outside the school, which is closed and under heavy security, then headed toward the nearby British Embassy. They were stopped by security forces two blocks away from the embassy.
The protest arose despite vows by Sudanese security officials the day before, during Gibbons' trial, that threatened demonstrations after Friday prayers would not take place. Some of the protesters carried green banners with the name of the Society for Support of the Prophet Muhammad, a previously unknown group.
Many protesters carried clubs, knives and axes — but not automatic weapons, which some have brandished at past government-condoned demonstrations. That suggested Friday's rally was not organized by the government.
A Muslim cleric at Khartoum's main Martyrs Mosque denounced Gibbons during one sermon, saying she intentionally insulted Islam. He did not call for protests, however.
"Imprisoning this lady does not satisfy the thirst of Muslims in Sudan. But we welcome imprisonment and expulsion," the cleric, Abdul-Jalil Nazeer al-Karouri, a well-known hard-liner, told worshippers.
"This an arrogant woman who came to our country, cashing her salary in dollars, teaching our children hatred of our Prophet Muhammad," he said.
Britain, meanwhile, pursued diplomatic moves to free Gibbons. Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke with a member of her family to convey his regret, his spokeswoman said.
"He set out his concern and the fact that we were doing all we could to secure her release," spokeswoman Emily Hands told reporters.

Most Britons expressed shock at the verdict by a court in Khartoum, alongside hope it would not raise tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims in Britain.
"One of the good things is the U.K. Muslims who've condemned the charge as completely out of proportion," said Paul Wishart, 37, a student in London.
"In the past, people have been a bit upset when different atrocities have happened and there hasn't been much voice in the U.K. Islamic population, whereas with this, they've quickly condemned it."

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the world's 77 million Anglicans, said Gibbons' prosecution and conviction was "an absurdly disproportionate response to what is at worst a cultural faux pas."
Foreign Secretary David Miliband summoned the Sudanese ambassador late Thursday to express Britain's disappointment with the verdict. The Foreign Office said Britain would continue diplomatic efforts to achieve "a swift resolution" to the crisis.
Gibbons was arrested Sunday after another staff member at the school complained that she had allowed her 7-year-old students to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Giving the name of the Muslim prophet to an animal or a toy could be considered insulting.
The case put Sudan's government in an embarrassing position — facing the anger of Britain on one side and potential trouble from powerful Islamic hard-liners on the other. Many saw the 15-day sentence as an attempt to appease both sides.
In The Times, columnist Bronwen Maddox said the verdict was "something of a fudge ... designed to give a nod to British reproof but also to appease the street."
Britain's response — applying diplomatic pressure while extolling ties with Sudan and affirming respect for Islam — had produced mixed results, British commentators concluded.
In an editorial, The Daily Telegraph said Miliband "has tiptoed around the case, avoiding a threat to cut aid and asserting that respect for Islam runs deep in Britain. Given that much of the government's financial support goes to the wretched refugees in Darfur and neighboring Chad, Mr. Miliband's caution is understandable."
Now, however, the newspaper said, Britain should recall its ambassador in Khartoum and impose sanctions on the Sudanese regime.

Thousands......not a few fringe group zealots. THOUSANDS. Calling to kill this poor woman.....who by the way, was over there helping to educate their children. She was helping them. But now they want to "kill" her.

From Salman Rushdie to the Dutch Cartoonist to the man who wanted to switch from Islam to Christianity to this innocent woman to the 3 men whose throats were cut for giving out Bibles in Turkey (and more), why is this the same reaction all of the time?? Why??

And if they cannot take over , why can't the question be raised to it being the other way around? Do the zealots outnumbers the peacmakers? Why can't that question be raised?

Has enough happened already to warrant the question?

You have GOT to be kidding me. I am in no way defending what the Goverment of Myanmar (by the way, not Burma) but do you even know the facts of what happened there? Do you even know why the Monks marched and why the were unjustly persecuted? Would you care to explain how you came to connect the incidents to ANY Islamic group and, by extension, the Islamic religion?

Or are you simply blinded by hate?

What praytell WarCrimes are those? The United States was within its International Right when it went to war with Iraq. Have you heard of the 17 UN Resolutions that allowed any Country to attack Saddam Hussien for War Crimes/Human Rights Violations after the Kuwaiti War in the Early 90's. Namely UN Resolution #687. Did you not see that President Clinton Attacked Iraq in 1998 without Congressional Approval? The Bush Administration had at least a 2/3rds vote to go into Iraq. So how is Bush a war criminal?

There's that "HATE" word. You don't see how an Islamic Militant Group takes over the Burmese Government, Execute the Infidels, and this has nothing to do with their relgious affiliation. Someone is blind, but it's not me.

I have condemnation for such mob mentality and my heart and prayers go out to Gillian Gibbons. But whilst we have a segment of a population of the a country clamouring for her execution, we also have a large worldwide majority condemning such call. So, on a global scale, 1% of mob Muslims call for her death whilst a global Muslim percentage far greater than that condemns the Sudanese government. Yet, certain quarters only see that 1% and quite liberally put blame on the entire faith.

There's that "HATE" word. You don't see how an Islamic Militant Group takes over the Burmese Government, Execute the Infidels, and this has nothing to do with their relgious affiliation. Someone is blind, but it's not me.

Post facts, I challenge you.

Post facts on how the Myanmar Government is being run by an Islamic Militant Group.

Post facts on how they then went on an infidel-killing spree for no reason.

Show us how is it you're not blind.

Don't just give us blank assertions. Put your money where your mouth is.

Hang on a minute! By your logic, I guess since the majority of the members of the police force in the US are Christians, including the top-brass, incidents of police brutality could then be equated with their religious affiliation?

Exactly Danger Mouse! The Islamophobics and the media who attempt to create a bias and fear of Islam among the masses will disclose the religious affiliation of violence and extreme incidents if they are a Muslim but not if they are non-Muslim.

So for example, if I rob a convenient store, Islam is to blame, but if Memphis Slim robs one its because he is Black.

These are also my sentiments.

By the way the number of those calling for her death compared to the total numbers of Muslims worldwide is far less than even 1%.

I would be in support of placing as much pressure on the Sudanese government as possible for Ms. Gibbons release including sanctions and an embargo and have it censored by the U.N. and U.S. for Human rights violations and bar travel to that country unless they release her and reform their laws.

Check some of the previous posts for answers and a source of direction to get those answers.

Start by being a little less emotional and dramatic and more rational and analytical...that is if you truly want answers to your questions.

By the way, are there more moderate Blacks than black gang bangers?

If so then by your logic then we should be able to take over and suppress and eliminate gangs and gang warfare.

If we cannot not then the gang bangers must out number us moderate blacks which would mean most blacks are gang bangers.

London should go in there with military force after she is released. If they did it now, they would just kill her.

Go to war with Sudan AFTER she is released? :wow:

And do what? Kill the civilians because of their warped mentality?

Yeah that would prove to the Sudanese and the rest of the Muslim world that the West is not against them.

Then what? Systematically obliterate every country on Earth Muslim or not that has a different mindset than the west?

And when we are done how about murdering every person in the U.S. and the West who doesn't THINK the way you believe they should.

Wow and people call us extremist. :whatever:

I love when mindless savage barbarians masquerading as superior, holy people accidentally expose their true selves. :)

Go over there with the military, AFTER THEY RELEASE HER.

LOL

So, the teacher was convicted of insulting religion, and cleared of incitement to religious hatred and showing contempt to religious beliefs
Stpid Muslims and their stupid sharia law, right?

Except the same things are crimes in Britain, thanks to that nice Mr Tony Blair. Virtually his final act as PM was to change our race relations laws to include religion. Its only a couple of months old.

In Eire,Abortion is illegal. (heavily catholic country) there are constant and regular attempts by the government to repeal an element of the abortion act that allows suicidal women to get an abortion, usually using the excuse that women will “pretend” to be suicidal.(the last attempt was in 2002)
The only reason the irish currently have this element in law?
Back in 1992, a 14 year old girl was raped. The rape made her pregnant. She was prevented by law from having an abortion, so a 14 year old rape victim had to take the Government to court (and ended up in the irish supreme court) to have an abortion.
SAhe enbded up travelling to the UK for one. Why? Cos when the supreme court said she could, the irish government said they prosecute any irish Dr that did it.At one point, until the outcry spread across most of Europe, they threatened to prevent her from travelling to the UK for it as well.

So, I would say that Muslims ain’t the only idiots when it comes to some faith based laws, wouldn’t you?
