‘Suicide Squad’ kills it with $165M Int’l, $326M+ globally.

In Brazil, Suicide Squad has passed the entire run of Guardians of the Galaxy after only six days in release there, scooping up $14.9M.

With its top offshore market so far being the U.K. with $19.7M, the supervillain pic starring Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie salso pushed over Guardians’ entire gross run in South Korea with $12.1M after only one week in release. That country has a holiday next weekend with the celebration of its Independence Day on August 15, which might help moviegoing in the territory.

Its No. 2 offshore market is Russia ($14.2M), followed by Mexico ($13.2M), and Australia ($12.3M).

Great news. :woot:

Just read the piece on collider.com about it breaking Tuesdays record. The hate in that report was so strong. I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that some critics are very upset that the movie is making money. Very childish and pathetic.

Did they also mention how the film is sexist and racist? I can't with all those articles just casually throwing it out there :funny:

It must be WB themselves who bought the tickets. Or paid people to buy it.
:o

I'm glad that the movie gains big money so far. :D
Initially I hope it got a biiiit more modest so WB wouldn't get cocky with their decisions for SS.
But all the hate media spew around towards the movie, fans or even GA who liked it made me hope SS to be a massive success.
I also think WB get the message either way.

Fantastic news.

Given how these bloggers talk year round about all these movies, that these same people write RT reviews for these movies and we're supposed to assume there is never any agenda is beyond me. Thus why any argument that starts or ends with 'but the 200 critics said..' is tiresome for me personally. Faraci and all of them are entitled to their opinion, that's all.

I'm not the biggest fan of this movie, rather this cut but I always suspected it would be a cult B classic in the long run. And kids would eat it up. Nice to see it finding an audience.

Agreed. Its basic human nature, and not surprising at all.It shouldnt be dismissed so easily.

Yeah there are still some big Intl' markets where SS hasn't opened yet so the overseas gross looks all set to be very good when all is said and done. :yay:

bloggers/critics hate that its doing so well

look at this article from collider the writer was probably seething seeing suicide squad do so well

Good God, wow. Well, not surprised. I have been suspicious of Collider for a while now. Don't know why some can't just be happy the comic book movie genre is still doing so well and that Marvel are not the only studio benefiting from that. Guardian will still make more money at the box office anyways. Jeez.

Don't jinx it bro. I am still holding out hope that SS makes more than GOTG. It's a big stretch at the moment and without China to fall back on, it'll be very difficult but still I am optimistic about Skawd's BO prospects . :woot:

Right?
As if the success of the movie or the movie itself caused them serious physical pain. Not only that, they also bashed people who like the movie.

Most of 'internet journalism' nowadays is just click-bait and toxic.
Ganged up the newest punching bag.
I denied the whole 'DC hate is popular' before, but now I can feel some of it.
I just saw this image, talk about twisted some words to fit their own narratives. I mean, come on.

Guys don't even click on anything VOX reports about SS, it's toxic. I was taken aback by their resentment and hatred for the movie, granted SS is no masterpiece and it has got flaws but the way they criticize it is totally unwarranted and pathetic.

Vox ?

They are so biased, it's not funny. Vox ran 11 toxic articles on why Batman V Superman is the worst movie in a matter of a week.

I cannot imagine why anyone could be so offended by a movie's existence. Now, it looks like they are doing the same thing for Suicide Squad, just avoid that site.

I wonder how much of an impact Sausage Party will have next weekend on the adult male demographic. I see it'll have an OW of 15 million so I guess SS should be okay, right?

Sounds like WB's "Pump as much money as possible into marketing, block ANY reviews until as near to day of release as possible" way of movie making are paying off again :)

I just wish they'd put so much effort in to actually making a good movie.

DC has probably the best marketing team in Hollywood 3 films in the DCEU and all 3 have 100 Million+ Opening Weekends

damn only 4 of the 13 MCU films have a higher opening weekend than a film about DC Super villains and 3 of the 4 were avengers films lol

WB as a Studio does not put Any effort in making a movie (good or bad), they leave that for the director they hired, it was upto David Ayer to make a "Good" movie, if the movie gets glowing reviews it due to his efforts not Studios same thing applies if the movie gets bad reviews.

Edit: Just marketing and holding off reviews does not translate into big collections, look at Green Lantern, it failed even though WB did the exact same thing, the movie has to be entertaining, like SS.

The buzz is good so far.
Demographic is more limited that SS but won't stop some parents from bringing their children to watch it. :funny:

This thread seems a long "let's wait for some negative news". And of course they are late.
Is it too hard to admit that people seem to enjoy it? Yes it's not a masterpiece, but only few sh movies are masterpieces.

I am really impressed by the performance of the movie at the box office. Even in Italy it will open definitely well despite it's deep summer here and people are on vacation at sea.
At least we can say that the marketing division of WB is pure gold. I remember when here we complained about the poor marketing for Superman Returns and Batman Begins.
At least WB seems to learn from their own mistakes. They will continue do it.

If the movie passes 620/650m ww without china we can say that it is a bright financial success.

I can't believe the amount of negativity in the BO prediction thread, let alone the general thread.

After news about SS breaking August record people started saying "Just wait till 2 weekend it'll drop like a rock it's like BvS again Deja Vu!!" Like people aren't allowed to celebrate an amazing OW of SS in the SS thread. Then there're some people just repeating the same chorus over and over and OVER "WB has left money on the table, WB are panic, execs are losing sleep" etc. I can't speak for everyone but personally I want them to straightout say "WB/ DC sucks" then get the hell out of this thread rather than being passive aggressive like that.

This ^^^ all of it

yeah but MCU doesn't have Superman or Batman or Joker or Harley. Spider-man is the only character that on these guys level.

I for one am very happy at its performance and hope this is enough for WB to greenlight a sequel. But one cant help but wonder if this movie had not been mucked with and got glowing reviews what kind of numbers this movie would be doing.

So far the reviews haven't had much impact on the BO returns of SS but the figures from 2nd weekend will probably tell us if it has much influence on the GA. I hope SS continues to make good money at the BO so that a sequel will be announced sooner rather than later. :woot:
