Well, since that's what always seems to come up let's do a Deadline style revenue comparison.

Guardians of the Galaxy:
Domestic: $333,176,600 * 0.55 = $183,247,130
International minus China: $343,665,799 * 0.40 = $137,466,320
China: $96,470,000 * 0.25 = $24,117,500

Total revenue: $344,830,950

Suicide Squad:
Domestic: $318,331,796 * 0.55 = $175,082,488
International minus China: $413,000,000 * 0.40 = $165,200,000
China: $0

Total revenue: $340,282,488

In other words it's within 4 million dollars from Guardians of the Galaxy and will overtake it before the end of the run by a few millions. It's essentially the same total revenue.

According to Mark Hughes budget is 300M period, after including sponsorship placements, so that would be about 45M profit, with toys/merchandising/blu rays/cables to come.

Today, #SuicideSquad will join the Top50 all-time domestic blockbusters list bumping off #IronMan in the process. $318.6M & counting.

He means budget+marketing. If thats true that would mean huge profit which is amaze-fing-balls. He has sources in WB so he is pretty accurate.

why does it have to pass gaurdians of the galaxy to justify its sucess?i like both films and they are both a sucess on there own

Movies are similar "group of misfit rouges save world", featuring with the exception of Harley/Joker a mostly unknown cast of characters. So people want to compare them.

Yup, 300M including reshoot and marketing, and product placement. Mark said a month ago - 600M is "so called break-even", 650M WB will be very happy, 700M is champagne time.

Now it's going over 750M, WB will be having a coke party :woot:

Wait till it dominates home video and digital sales for a month as have MoS and BvS before it.

Apparently it takes years to bring in those profit so nah.:o

Boxoffice prediction
Suicide Squad Warner Bros. $1,870,000 $320,810,000

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is coming in this weekend, I really enjoyed the trailer when I watched SS, so hope it does well, and it has Eva Green, get her to DC!!

lol some people want to it make more than most popular Marvel movies even if it is only domestic.

Mos never dominate sales for a month. Only time it was number 1 seller was first week of release. Bet Suicide squad wont either.

Yeah, MoS did great in DVD & Blu-Ray sales. BvS didn't do too shabby, either. To deny that is pure ignorance. But, when you're a blatant hater, you tend to ignore the facts. Comes with the territory, I suppose. :o

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-seen-earning-less-profit-than-superman-alone

"“Batman v Superman,” one of the most expensive films ever made, is on pace to produce a $278 million profit for Warner Bros. once home video, TV and merchandise proceeds are tallied, according to SNL Kagan analyst Wade Holden. That’s less than the estimated $300 million the studio earned from “Man Of Steel.”"

http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Man-of-Steel#tab=video-sales
Total Domestic Video Sales $109,226,383

That's excluding international sales

b.o = 300M profit WW, minus 225M budget+150M marketing, add 170M sponsorship = 95M profit.

Total 300M profit means MOS earned over 200M from home entertainment and merchandising/toys.

It's b.o is 73rd on the all time ranking, 17th on blu ray sales, take out maybe near half of pre 2009 movies b.o is still around 35th, so 17th post 2009 is pretty dominating.

Yep, Suicide Squad is definitely gonna have poor DVD/Blu-Ray sales. :o

The Numbers' bluray chart isn't very good. It doesn't seem to have data past July and I'm not sure the data it has is accurate.

I don't understand why they rank it by number of units sold instead of actual gross revenues. Man Of Steel did extremely well in number of units sold because WB as a history of low prices, and agressive discount policies. MoS BR sales average at $20.28 per unit. For instance SWTFA Blu Ray average price is $25.15/unit, Avengers (which was released a year prior to MoS) is $22.88/unit, Guardians of The Galaxy is $21.12/unit and so on and so forth.
In this chart you have Fast Furious 6 at #19 who sold less units but grossed 9M more than MoS on the BR market, likewise you have The Lion King at #23, The Little Mermaid at #37, Up at #39.

It's really weird to judge box office by gross instead of ticket sales and then change the metric when it comes to home video sales.

Those differences you quoted aren't astronomical but I agree it makes no sense and it becomes laughable when you look at the sales figure of the complete Star Wars set (I-VI).

It beat iron man??? Wow. I usually haven't cared about box office stuff( it's not my money and I don't care how much it took to make a movie ) but with all the hating on DC it's good to know people are showing up in droves. Awesome.
