Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 18

So, turns out, it was confirmed the movie happens after BvS in EW article. Good to know (not like we didn't suspect it). But maybe not all bits. I struggle to place the scene where they talk about Superman and White House.

it seems like that takes place present day. they spoke of Superman in PAST tense.

Saying that batman is shoehorned in is absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

I don't think anyone was saying that. We knew he would be in this movie since early-on. It's just that the recent report about him being in it a LOT MORE than people were expecting is a little troubling for some of us. That's all (especially those of us who weren't crazy about Affleck in BvS).

I'm not that great with English. :woot: Hard to get the context. If it's present time, if Superman is dead, if he's buried with honors, if everyone likes him now... Why bring it up?

a poster a couple pages back literally said those exact words.

Though I don't think him being "in the movie a lot more than expecting" is going to translate to being in the movie a lot. I feel like most of his stuff is going to be left to flashbacks of how they all ended up in prison. And probably a scene of Bruce speaking to Amanda.

I think a lot more means from tiny cameo to the odd scene that connects again. It's not like every 3 scenes Batman will appear. If anything this yet again adds to the issues people had with Marvel. If these characters were going around people would cry "where the hell is Batman if this is happening?" Well DC have decided to actually put him in.

Oh, guess I missed that. Sorry.

Anyway, that all sounds fine. I guess I'm just wary because Batman seems to dominate everything nine times out of 10 (not just movies, but comics and animated stuff too).

Yeah, pretty much. :hehe:

And as you know, NO ONE wanted BvS to work more than I did. It pains me to have such a strong dislike of it. But anyway, I didn't mean to turn this thread into a BvS debate. Just pointing out that I hope Ayer and WB didn't feel the need to shove way too much Batman into Suicide Squad just because the character is so popular. And I'd be saying that even if I liked BvS.

In the Empire article he did say "**** good vs bad, bad vs evil is a lot more interesting". I think Ayer doesn't want any heroes to take the spotlight in this movie and the Batman scenes will be confined to that Joker/Harley lambo chase.

Everyone knows the reshoots to this movie are because of GOTG 3 and Deadpool 2...one word: Time traveling Film Editors

No one in this film appears shoe-horned in at all. So I don't know what to make of that comment.
It was sarcasm, I suppose. There's nothing wrong with Batman being in SS movie in a small role. No bigger than WW one in BvS.

the quote was "What if Superman HAD decided to fly down, rip off the roof of the white house....etc etc"
Basically implying that they need to put together this group of "other" meta-humans as a squad that use their abilities to help out the government, but in the event that something goes wrong, they can throw them under the bus without anyone knowing that they worked for the government

It also makes sense when you take Amanda's quote from the CC trailer into context "Maybe Superman was some kind of beacon for them to creep back from the shadows"
Now I'm wondering if she actually says "Maybe the death of Superman...." and it was edited

Also, what is your first language if you don't mind me asking? Your english seems really good, I never would have guessed it wasn't your first language

I wish to conclude this silly BvS debate by saying categorically that if you don't recognise that both Batman and Superman are awesome, you fail.

Thanks, I had a lot of practice on this board too. :) My first language is Russian.

Yes, it probably makes sense. They're trying to use all these super-natural abilities in their favor. Connected to SDCC Waller's rant, it makes better sense. Meta-humans were provoked to "creep" out by Superman and now they're going to use them to do some "good". Then the Batman chase, as I thought before, is probably the beginning of the film. That's when Harley gets caught and Joker remains at large.

I'd say only the first two Reeve movies did any good for Superman's rep. STM and SII kept Superman's pop culture momentum going. It's been bumpy for him ever since, IMO.

More like a downward spiral.

I would be more inclined to think that the Batman Joker/Harley chase is going to be a flashback as to how they ended up in prison, but that is possible too

It honestly seems like we're just getting more clips from the one sequence we knew ahead of time that Batman was going to be in (the story of Harley's arrest). I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out about his scene being longer than we thought, or that he's suddenly being shoehorned in when we knew about his involvement last year and nobody cared (And also, JOKER AND HARLEY are in this).

If he randomly pops up in Wonder Woman for more than a couple seconds (if at all), I will agree that he's being used too much but as of now..eh.

And if Justice League and Batfleck Begins both bomb or severely underperform? Yeah, that's going to be a lot of fun for you when WB pulls the plug on all of this.

You can dream. Not gonna happen.

Familiar words. Fans said the same about any claims that BvS was not going to be the highest CBM grosser this year. A shoe in to make an easy ride to a billion. Right now it's struggling to get to 850 mil. A panned Melissa McCarthy movie can over take it in the weekend box office in it's third week only. All this happening with no other competition in the theaters. Embarrassing.

Nobody imagined this happening or even possible. Nor did they imagine a 29% critic score. Or BvS being even more disliked than MOS. But here we are. My point is don't be so certain of what can and cannot happen. The train wreck that is BvS proved the most unlikely of things can happen.

Right till Snyder made Superman relevant again.

Snyder is lesson 101 on how to not make a superhero relevant.

I was trying to be politically correct, but downward spiral is exactly how I'd describe it.

Being politically correct doesn't work. Just say it like it is, Batsy.

They both didn't end up in prison. Flashback will be about Joker being in Arkham -> Harleen romance and escape -> she finds him later, chases him on a bike -> dive into vats. Maybe that's how the film will open. Then cut to "n years later" night club scene. After that Waller comes in and starts SS project.

People thinking that Batman doesn't belong in a film that heavily features the Joker and Harley quinn, laughable.
