Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 18

Ok, lets not all combust.

Three trailers have come to light for David Ayer's Sucide Squad, which have teased us regarding the film's ensemble cast and the light-and-dark tone we can expect. Outside of knowing that the villains will be brought together for a black ops mission for the government, we know next to nothing regarding what the film is actually about.
Speaking with Cinemablend, David Ayer teased that the film's biggest secrets are yet to appear in the world of online speculation and spoiler talk. "It's very mysterious. I know everyone is peeking through a keyhole trying to figure out what the movie is about, but nobody's got it yet, which is a lot of fun! Our surprises remain intact."

Theories such as the plot involving breaking Jared Leto's Joker out of prison were rejected by the director, but he wouldn't go into any more detail, naturally. We might actually have to wait until we're sitting in the theater to get to the good bits of this film.

Unless Ayer has missed Umberto's talk about Incubus. lol

Isn't Grace Randolph the one who shat on MOS?

He tweeted about it.

I found the heart in the new @SuicideSquadWB trailer: It was on ME! 'Cause this trailer gave me a big, fat heart-on!

Still waiting on a podcast though.

Anyone realize that Bats only has two pouches on his belt when he jumps in the water? I think that might have to do with why people think he is slimmer.

No, he has a slimmer waist. But it may be due to stretching and angle. Batman doing a combo on thugs at the warehouse looked slim too.

Kinda OT

Grace Randolph and Andy Sigmore got into it on twitter.

To those today who told me I was "delusional" re critics agenda against #BatmanvSuperman, take a look:

Andy Signore ‏@andysignore 53m53 minutes ago
@GraceRandolph @faith2nyc what agenda? BvS was a sloppy rush job that audiences are fastly losing interest in as well. CW was well earned.

Andy Signore ‏@andysignore 50m50 minutes ago
@GraceRandolph @faith2nyc the fight in CivilWar trumps BvS by like a million... Actual emotional stakes & character build up prove important

Grace Randolph ‏@GraceRandolph 47m47 minutes ago
@hermandhaliwal @andysignore ok so next time a movie wins Best Picture they should laugh in the face of the other nominees?

Andy Signore ‏@andysignore 44m44 minutes ago
@GraceRandolph @hermandhaliwal as a critic, why take our criticism so sensitively? BvS had MAJOR story problems. History will prove this.

Grace Randolph ‏@GraceRandolph 43m43 minutes ago
@andysignore @hermandhaliwal I feel the opposite - history will prove the hater agenda, and that this movie was never given a chance

Andy Signore ‏@andysignore 39m39 minutes ago
@GraceRandolph @hermandhaliwal Not a chance WB has no clue what they're doing. They need a Kevin Feige of their own. A true fan to build DCU

Grace Randolph ‏@GraceRandolph 37m37 minutes ago
Andy, @andysignore u will NEVER get me to turn on BvS, which I understand is flawed but deeply respect & admire - and many stand with me

I rarely agree with Andy but he's right here. The idea that BvS was "never given a chance" is ludicrous to the highest degree. All those Superman and Batman fans never gave the movie a chance? They wanted it to be bad? Give me a break.

This movie is part of the DCU (re)launch. Batman will appear even at the end to set a connection with JL and the Batman solo movie.

I wouldnt call it a relaunch since Batman has been in it since the beginning (we saw set pics months ago about it) so it isnt exactly a reaction to anything.

They're talking about critics. Not ordinary fans. Reception among GA is way better than among "critics".

I guess I'm not that well embedded in all this, don't know who any of the people being discussed here are.
But it seems sad, at some point like people stop talking about the actual movie coming out(which is what I came for), and instead start talking about the people talking about the movie. Which I couldn't give a damn about.
Do all movie threads devolve into this?

Any chance that [blackout]Supes' body[/blackout] will appear in SS? :sus

I hope it doesn't. It should only be featured if someone's going to do something about it.

Also Grace may not have been on board with the new Joker/Harley Quinn at the start, but she's certainly come around. I find myself sharing a lot of similar tastes and opinions as her, and am really glad she's one of the few channels that continued to defend BvS for its strengths rather than leap on the bandwagon to nitpick the film to death. I don't mind people not liking it, but to completely ignore the stuff that was good about the film in order to s*** on every single thing especially for the same problems that are found in most action/CB movies is just being completely partial and unprofessional imo.

The DC ones yeah, I dont venture to Marvel boards so I cant speak for them. You just need to wait it out it lasts a day then cycles back.

We've had two/three.

Fatman has one with two separate short reviews, then they did a live show al about BvS, plus the last to Babbles talked about it.

Oh ****, forgot this was the SS thread. Sorry man.

Can we move on from BVS please? Lets stop trying to convert each others opinons on the movie? agendas againt DC? dont make me laugh

If you are talking worries about SS. its deadpool that makes me worried. SS is kinda in a similar boat as deadpool.

SS is gonna be good miles ahead of BVS, that is a fact i am stating right now. It does not the the burden of have the trinity. it gonna be good fun. cant wait.

We get "just the right amount" of #Batman in #SuicideSquad, Ayer says; several of the cast tease scenes with him.

“We went and just jammed some crazy new action ****. I wish I could tell you more about that, I can’t, but that’s all we’re up to.”

KINNAMAN: He pushes everybody in their own direction. I mean he’s really involved when it comes to character development, maybe more than any director I’ve ever worked with before. It’s almost like going back to theater school in some ways. And he has this whole infrastructure around that, he’s like picked up these people throughout his life. You got this guy Jamie, this L.A. cop for 26 years…

COURTNEY: It’s like a clique that roll with David that are all a part of achieving the authenticity that he strives for within his films. They’re wonderful people to interact with, and what’s great is you get all this value out of that, and it’ll teach you so much about what you’re trying to achieve yourself, but it’s not necessarily something you could’ve found on your own. It’s a wonderful gift, and it has a lot to do with why we all enjoy working with him so much.

I honestly thought that me and Jai were gonna have a rough time on the movie. The first time we had a read-through, he was just like eyeballing me the whole [time], and I was like, ‘Ugh this guy is gonna wanna fight me, he’s much bigger than me, this is gonna be rough.’ And then when we walked out, he jumped on my back and was riding my back, and then he goes, ‘We’re gonna get along just fine you and me!’”

(It would have been interesting if he did that to Tom Hardy :awesome:)

“You’re also dealing with people who aren’t necessarily superheroes but might be metahuman or even humans with just incredibly acute skills, and that feeds into it. When you’ve got a guy that can shoot and hit a target or a bull’s-eye at every opportunity that he takes, that’s a wonderful opportunity to build that into his action. That’s sort of across the board.”

Adam Beach may not live long in this movie, but man is he a great interview. His breakdown of the characters and story is phenomenal.

Highlights

1. The emotional outlet of Rick Flag will blow you away.
2. The depth of El Diablo is mind blowing.
3. Suicide Squad movie shakes up any comicbook movie ever made and reinvents it. It's like candy you're going to want more.
4. Everyone keeps trying to figure the story line. #1 you will not figure it out.The trailers are meant to slip and slide and avoid things.
5. SS is going to recharge and create momentum.

well coming from me someone who gave BVS a 6/10

BVS got crapped on and overly critiqued since it was announced

gal.jesse and ben had people hating their casting choices

the teaser got slammed for being too dark
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...leaked-trailer-mocked-for-being-too-dark.html

Gal and Ben are praised mostly even though people hated the casting initially. so they did give a chance.

:hehe: Who said that?

Yeah, I think most people did give it a chance. A lot of people did watch the movie. 800 million dollars is not small money. The thing is most people consider Marvel movies as the gold standard now. BvS is no Marvel type of film.
