Or maybe they have a higher opinion of Kinnaman as an actor than you apparently do (i.e. they've seen him in more than a mediocre Robocop remake).

Wasn't fond of his Robocop, but he was great on The Killing. I would be all for this casting if it turned out to be true.

Well, Batman, Nick Fury and Gordon weren't all that great in it either.

Forgettable but entertaining. Something you'd put in the background while folding laundry, filing papers, or reviewing your taxes. Kinnaman was solid in it.

I like how the Hollywood Reporter basically says what Will Smith says but they use the word issue so of course now the script sucks.

I could've sworn one of the trades (THR, Variety, or The Wrap) that reported the Kinnaman story also brought up the Bernthal/Edgerton rumors. So I'm guessing we'll be hearing Joe Manjello as Slade, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, Viola Davis as Waller, and (possibly) Jesse Eisenberg as Lex fairly soon.

I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually like the Robocop remake. So I'm fine with the Rick Flagg casting.

I didn't hate the RoboCop remake but I did find it to be a rather pointless remake. I thought Kinnaman was fine in it, he certainly wasn't the problem with it, none of the actors were.

According to JoBlo, Harris is up for General Sam Lane and Gary Sinise is up for Rick Flagg's daddy. Hell, you could switch the roles and it would still be great regardless.
