Love the news about Kinneman I hope he gets the role.

In Run All Night, Harris is trying to kill him. :hehe:

Kinnaman is very cool! I like it!

Hi everyone, a DC fan but unfortunately i know little about suicide squad - so this weekend will be doing my home work. A question though, will the characters mentioned be working together in the 'good guy' role against a far greater threat?

Also, after seeing the joker brilliantly portrayed in the nolan trilogy, is it wise to show case this new chapter in a 'good' light so to speak - therefor when we next see him, we will have this movie in mind and he won't seem as 'evil'?

Just asking as a newbie keen to learn more

Some will, some won't. I think it's pretty clear that the team will be Harley, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Enchantress and Rick Flagg Jr. and then of course Waller running the task force from an ARGUS facility.

Joker likely will not be on the Squad. The most likely scenario I see is that he's kept in an ARGUS prison to keep Harley in line, and possibly he and Harley have a plan going on that will be a third act twist.

Some of the characters in the film, but not all of them, will be in the Squad, as such they'll carry out missions on behalf of the government against bigger villainous threats. The Squad isn't a nice, cozy family, though. Most of the villains working for the Squad are doing so out of self-interest and remain bad guys at heart themselves.

The Joker probably won't be on the Squad itself. He'll likely still be an evil, scary character.

I can't recommend BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM enough as a primer as to what Squad stories are like, even if I have my own nitpicks about it (I wasn't happy with Waller's characterization in the film despite CCH Pounder coming back to voice her as she did in JLU, where she was a great character, I also disliked the lack of Rick Flagg or Bronze Tiger, Lawton was good but they didn't get into his death wish or his smart ass personality, and as always... Sorry, Harley Quinn, no matter how much you contrive the plot, has NO PLACE ON THE SUICIDE SQUAD... but I digress) it's a solidly entertaining piece that is a great capabilities presentation if you will on what the Squad is all about and I even liked how they integrated Harley and Joker into things.

Even better is the TASK FORCE X episode of JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED. That was classic Squad to a T in many ways.

Both give you the flavor of what a good Suicide Squad story should be.

Assault on Arkham is a decent starting point, though there's much better material out there. I agree with Krypton Inc.'s complaints minus the Harley bit, plus I thought the partial nudity seemed just out of place and didn't like the Harley/Deadshot [BLACKOUT]sex scene[/BLACKOUT] being in there. Speaking of that one, I'm hoping that Harley's costume ends up taking more from that than the awful New 52 version, though I could really do without the stomach window.

For myself, by it's very nature the Squad lends itself to darker and more mature subject matter. I mean, the comics I read as a wee lad were all over the map in terms of tone and subject matter. Late 80's/early 90's comics were boundary pushers in terms of content and in comparison to the stuff with Lawton and Harley in the comics (ugh... That clown car quip double entendre) their Yahtzee moment was kind of tame. Besides... Harley Quinn is a sex object for fanboys, as you can tell by the design she has in the comics now and in the Arkham games. It's a huge part of her appeal (an appeal which, granted is totally lost on me) and isn't surprising they would use her character in such a way. The Squad stories were never really meant for the really young type of fan anyway. They are a long way from your average episode of BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES, that's for sure, dealing with assassinations, corruption in government, Middle Eastern politics, the Cold War ect... I can't fault any adaptation that keeps that in mind. These are violent stories that are very much in the wheelhouse of black comedy. Plus, these mini movies DCE is putting out are clearly for the older and die hard fans. That's my view.

Oh it was tame sure, I just can't stand the pairing (though I'm glad what they did with it come the third act) and to me every time this film decided to do moments like that or the stripping moments later it just felt off. Like I could feel them just yelling "hey! Look! We're mature, we have partial nudity and sex!" which just ended up making the whole thing feel immature instead. Violence I never had an issue with in that film, I thought that fit fine. And just because she's being treated like that doesn't mean that's all the character is or can be, she's not one of my favourite comic characters because they shoved her in booty shorts or a corset (urgh I hate the New 52 and Arkham costumes so much...). You're not a fan of the character though, fair enough on that. I'm not a big Deadshot person myself.

We're about 8 weeks away from principal photography commencing. Surely we should be getting the other confirmed casting's right about now?

We'll get those casting confirmations anywhere from now until principal photography begins. :o

Maybe he'll tweet you to be patient in Spanish like he did before. :o

I forked out and bought the entire Ostrander run ('87-'92) on digital a few days ago. I'm not expecting Ayer's movie to be like it at all, but I suspect the spirit will be there.

Waller's a straight up b***h, man. No messing.

Ostrander's run is my favorite SS run ever. The tone and themes which are still as relevant today as they were in the late 80s/early 90s should be there, but it should also embrace the bat-**** craziness of Ayer's previous films and the New 52 #skwad.

Geoff John's even tweeted after the movie was confirmed to read Ostrander's run on Suicide Squad as it will get you started on what to expect from Ayer.

And Ayer tweeted out several issues from Ostrander's run when it came to staying canon or not.
