Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - Part 20

Reactions from reddit (from 2 different posters): The BIG thing is that the movie literally saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is BTAS personified.

David Ayer understands Batman on a fundamental level I think. It's hard to explain without spoilers, but Batman delivers justice in a sympathetic manner instead of just blowing up criminals. He locks criminals up, but he understands and cares about them at the same time.

Same, I hope this is true.

These reactions made me think that SS will get similar RT treatment as BvS, X-Men:Apoc, Warcraft, etc.

I already knew a long time ago that Ayer's SS will be more than competent film and be at least interesting to me than most of the other cbm films currently, including Deadpool which I don't care for at all.

Yeah, reactions don't seem super-excited so far. 3/5 of Ayer's movies are rotten and when I see those where he only provided screenplays it's also 3/5. I think just that shorter runtime, hip soundtrack and fun characters should secure better reviews than BvS but I'm not convinced it's gonna end up fresh. Right I'd predict something betwee 46-63%.

I agree, and I suspect (as I don't have enough proof lol) that the trend seems to be going in direction of the critics' being annoyed if the film wasn't that good at least there should be some fun or be entertaining otherwise they will dump on it. lol

I'm thinking that because of the tweets saying that SS was fun, it will be safe at least from getting a low blow RT score like BvS and X-Men:Apoc. lol

AAAA: five positive integers out of the infinite set of Z? /s

Another variation of 2 to 10 thumbs up :lmao:

Nine out of ten reactions that have been posted here range from positive to super positive. Not sure where this doom and gloom is coming from.

I don't usually look for RT scores, especially with today's "critics" and specifically in this developing genre, but I think SS will do better on that front.

With these characters you can make the film funny (which makes many people happy) without compromising its tone.

Hopefully, film after film, people will get used to the DC way.

By the way, be careful with the spoilers guys.

I read about the identity of the main villian which I don't think was confirmed before (or am I out of the loop?)

It gets on my nerves how people keep repeating this crap how Ayer or (whoever else comes to direct future DCEU films) saved Batman. Batman was saved in Batman v Superman.
I expected this, thanks for the confirmation. Glad it stayed that way. As for it being worse than Civil War - it's a compliment in my eyes. Plenty of stuff in CW was "too good".

If SS feels like a sequel to BvS and Batman is better. That means that the ending of BvS was a clear sign that Batman will change in future films. That was the plan all along. No reason to pile on Snyder.

Yea...Civil War does seem almost "too polished" and sort of safe in a way that has made it not as rewatchable to me.

I mean its much better on a technical level that BvS. However, I just care about the amazing action set pieces. Not really whats going on.

Curious as to who the two characters are.

I kind of had a bad feeling about the rumored villain for a while. Kind of goes against what Ayer said in that article months back.

Do we know for sure that the Batman scenes take place in the present day and not in flashbacks?

I hope they aren't talking about his scene with Batman. I want that to be as perfect as it supposedly is.

About Will Smith (again from reddit):

"Will Smith plays dark and edgy Will Smith, which is a flavour I haven't seen from him before. I like it. Harley gets the most screen time, but he's obviously positioned as the main character. One of his scenes kind of fails to resonate though, but the movie would suck without him."

Aw man I hope this isn't another "Martha" moment.

Where if the execution isn't perfect it will fall apart in a lot of people's eyes.

Can someone post the link, or PM me a link to this stuff on reddit?

What did Ayer say?

You know, all these movies are about defeating the evil alien robot from *****ing Planet X, before it destroys the world with its ticking clock. And who the ***** cares? But you do a story about struggle and isolation and people who have been **** on, that suddenly get thrown this lifeline… that’s not so bad. I like to think of this as Comic-Book Movie 2.0.”

Seems no one really cares about the "Villain Villain" in this movie.

Then again Marvel has made a killing off of crappy "main villains" So if the main characters are good...we should be ok..

Zod was the best villain out of those.

If the audience reaction is that they don't really care for the villain and they care more about the Squad, then Ayer wasn't really wrong.

Crap villain is still a crap villain..

Again..Marvel has produced a lot of solid movies where the villain was crap so its alright.

I guess since this is a movie about villains its not so bad as well.

Now that I think about it.

I wonder if the two characters were Flag and [BLACKOUT]Enchantress[/BLACKOUT]

:hehe:

Thats just funny :)

Zod was the best villain out of those.

I liked Doomsday. The set up for Doomsday would have been better if we had a stronger Lex Luthor.

I think if we had Cranston or Phoenix as Lex it would have been really great. I don't think Jesse was terrible. His character was pretty good before he started to create Doomsday. Then his performance got a little too wacky.
