I like Will Smith in general so I don't know what to tell you.
As a kind who grew up with the Fresh Prince and then MIB, even when I think I am sick of Will Smith, he pulls me back in. I was one who really enjoyed him in MIB3.

This is exactly what just happened to me in my sold out theater.

I'll post my review again, since it wasn't seen before:

The critics are so, so, sooo wrong. This movie was absolutely phenomenal, and the sold out crowd in my theater was consistently engaged, responsive, and they applauded loudly at the end. They ate up every second of this. It was probably the most engaged crowd I've been a part of since TDK in 2008. And to those hating on Leto's Joker, the crowd (and I) seemed to absolutely love him too. Everything about this movie was likable and satisfying from beginning to end. I have no idea what the world is smoking, but they're entitled to their opinion... but damn, I have no clue how anyone could dislike this film. A high 9/10 for me, without question.
Same happened on the showing tonight (not so much the pre-release screening I went to). Not loudly clapping at the end but the audience seemed to like the movie a lot.

I don't want to be negative at all because I haven't seen the movie... But I really can't stand Will Smith... and him being the highlight of the movie doesn't bode well for me :(

I didn't like him that much in the trailers, but he's better in the film.

So what does this mean? Why do we not get this huge gap between critics and audience with other movies this year? What forces are at play?

Except we did. Just look at Ghost Busters and Tarzan. One was liked by the critics but not the general audience while the other was liked by the general audience but not the critics. Guess which one is a success financially? :)

We're not really going to know too much until next weekend when the drop off happens.
If there is a drop. You never know how the GA will react until they see it. Just like you don't know how you will react until you see it.

Just got back from Suicide Squad. I'll say more later but for starters, I enjoyed it! There were things here and there that fell flat but there were more than enough redeeming qualities that had a quick turn around to counteract those certain things. First impression rating is a 7/10 but I'll sleep on it. Will be seeing it again.

After yesterday I was so curious how you'd see it. That you want to see it again is a very good sign.

We have to wait for opening weekend and then the second weekend to see if the audience liked it or not. I remember fans in the BvS forums claiming that the audience loved it and it fell off of the face of the earth after opening weekend.

I won't get a chance to see this 'til next week, but I'm most excited to see it for Waller/Viola. I love everything I've heard about her.

I am watching it on Tuesday because my idiot brother didn't want to spend 20$ for IMAX in case the movie was bad. Now I have to wait because of him.

Yup, the snide smart-alecs are turning out to be increasingly irrelevant.

:hehe::up:

I don't know maybe its the fact that most of the critics are old and movie snobs/hipsters.
Nah JK
But there does seem to be a divide between audience and critics this time

ghostbusters took in a lot of negative audience reaction due to fans controversy but ultimately was rated as an average film by the critics (the ones without an agenda) and audiences. I don't know what kind of response Tarzan took in, I didn't follow it so I can't speak for that one

I guess every theater experience is different. My theater didn't applaud at the end at all, and it was a fanboy/girl crowd that were really excited going into it, and clapped when the movie started.

Everyone I was with thought it was awful. Funny how the mood of a room can sometimes taint your perception. But it is what it is. The movie had potential, but I can't pretend like the glaring issues weren't constantly getting in the way of my enjoyment for most of the film.

Even though I wasn't at all fond of Leto's take on The Joker, I still would watch a whole movie about him and Harley. Because the movie just left me wanting to know more, it gave such a surface level overview of their relationship, and I want to see Robbie given better material to work with.

I'm glad for those of you who loved it though. I'd honestly be happy if this proves to be a "audiences and critics disagree" sort of film. I just feel like this cast deserved a better movie. And Leto...I'm willing to give him another chance in a future film, only because I think he's a good actor. But man did he miss the mark for me.

Part of me wonders if the critics were tricked or something, because I don't know what movie they watched. I'm willing to bet there is going to be a gap of 50+ between the critics score and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I thought it was really good, and the theater I was in seemed to feel the same.

Margot Robbie stole the show.

Critics aren't watching the movie with the regular audience for the most part. Sometimes a movie can be ok, but you feed off the fan environment and like it more.

What you guys think WB want, a critically acclaimed franchise or a critic proof one?
