Exactly. Harley Quinn is a villain in an abusive relationship with a mass murderer, she is not somebody whom you should model your life on.
I know I probably sound like a downer about this movie so far and I really honestly don't want to continue to be but I will be very disappointed if the first time Joker & Harley are in a movie together starts the DCU with them going their separate ways. The Deadshot/Harley thing isn't nearly as interesting as the Joker/Harley dynamic. Would be wasted potential in my book.
I really want to like this movie but I'm not liking what we're seeing so far. Sucks for me I guess, I hope it swings back into the Joker/Harley direction by the end of the movie.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. We've only seen a few out-of-context snippets of what might be in this movie. There could still be Harley/Joker collaboration.
I prefer Deadshot to be a lone wolf, where he sees pretty much everyone as an enemy or potential enemy. Only teaming up by pure necessity or in this case because he is forced. Suits the character better for me.
He'll still be like that, but it's likely that he warms up to the team. The same thing happens in the comics. In the Ostrander run, he takes a liking to Rick Flagg because he reminds him of his brother. He's got a soft side.
I understand it and Ayer did say he wants to make them like a family by the end of the movie. I just prefer my villains to be cold and detached, for the most part, with anyone outside of their traditional sidekicks/henchmen. Exceptions of course have to made for certain situations. For example, Legion of Doom can't happen without some comradely between villains that don't usually work together. But with Deadshot's character I've always liked it better when he pretty much hates everyone and works alone.
I don't like villains with a soft side or sympathetic villains. But with Will Smith playing Deadshot I definitely understand it, it plays to his strength's as an actor for him to have a softer side and be more sympathetic, which is part of the reason I would have rather seen him play a hero. He would have been my first choice for John Stewart actually, given his role in Independence Day basically being John Stewart without Lantern ring and powers.
Your description comes closer to Boomerang than Deadshot. Deadshot at least has honor. Boomerang would betray the team if the money was right. That's the fun thing about the Squad, they're all distinct. You can't have 8 (or whatever the number) heartless bastards on a team, it doesn't work.
It works for me, though I understand that it wouldn't work for the general audience and this thing has to resonate with them more than any individual fan like myself.
She got it by sleeping. On the other hand, if Dr. Harleen Quinzel were a decent psychiatrist, she would know what "Stockholm syndrome" is and would not fall in that very trap like an obsessive schoolgirl.

I could be completely off here, but from the way you describe things and offer your opinions, it sounds like you have this clear cut idea in your head of what you want and anything that deviates from that is automatically inferior. You want every villain to basically have the same personality, you only want Harley to team up with this and that person. You sound hard to please is what I'm saying.
I used to think that Dobson and Zryson were one and the same.
Having all the villains in this movie dislike each other doesn't make their personalities all the same at all though. It's a common character trait, not a full personality set. Harley is insane and funny, Deadshot is focused and tactical, Boomberang unpredictable and a *****e bag, Waller is stern and demanding, Flagg is a leader with a mission, etc. etc. They don't have to like each other to be different personality wise.
My angle would have been that they all pretty much hate their situation and don't like each other much but because of pure survival and skill sets they end up working very well together as a team.

Were they actually filming Harley while she was sitting on top of the car and taking off the choker?
I just assumed that she was taking a break....and sitting on top of a car for some reason.![]()
You literally said that you don't want any villain to be sympathetic. That's what I was getting at. Blanket statements like that seem short-sighted to me.
...yet you don't want certain characters to bond? You're probably describing the general idea Ayer is going for.
I used to think that Dobson and Zryson were one and the same.
Seems to be a trend around here. Posters who say things opposite of the major stream of thought....psh, we've got another Zyrson over here. I've literally seen the same insinuation over thee times in the last month. That guy must have really scarred the Hype group-think.
