Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

Transgender may be the last frontier for Hollywood in general and more power to whoever actually gets this role, but it Bugs me like crazy that they have not had an actual disabled person on an Arrowverse show. I'm not even sure it matters which one at this point.
That's true, I think one of the issues is they never actually add a disabeled character, they always have characters become disabeled and then find a way past it, they need a character who just happens to be disabeled, not defined by it, not as a story arc that is then moved past.

It means this character is likely permanent and will be a very main character. They can't ever get rid of this person now, even if the actor turns out to be terrible to work with or they have nowhere to go with the character's story, because there will be an uproar from the BLT community.
They can still do whatever they want with the character I imagine, they wont be hamstrung as if equality is the goal then every character has to be open to the same arcs and the potential to be killed off.

As a wheelchair user... yeah, there's not enough disabled characters on TV... and those that are, as Hunter said, are there to be the cliche 'becoming abled again' storyline, so the actors are never disabled themselves.

I'm a wheelchair user too. it is a problem in general. It seems to be more of a problem with the general attitude on Flash and Arrow.

Well Transgender people aren't all gay, many identify as straight in regards to their gender identity.

That is true, I'm just talking about the majority of regular straight actors who end up playing transgendered characters.

regarding the transgender character; they almost have to have the "Dammit, boys ae boys!" character but I doubt it'll be any of the main cast.

Snapper perhaps?

I'm personally all up for fair representation on these shows but I wish that the producers would give other minority groups a chance as well.

I would love to see major characters that are played by full Asian actors or see them introduce a character with a major disability (like someone had previously said here) where the goal isn't to cure them of it but show how they still function in life with it, especially when they live in a world filled with superheroes.

We had a reoccurring Asain character but they sadly killed him off for no good reason.

He was hardly a main character though.

Maybe they'll have an Asian transgendered disabled person. :o

Talking about a disabled character, what if they did the Gotham crossover post the Killing Joke, giving us a wheelchair bound Barbara Gordon?

She could then be the Oracle leading the BoP or assisting Bat Woman!:woo:

So although I've been on the whole quite disappointed with the last two seasons of Supergirl I want to praise the FX. I think in Season Three the FX have really gone up a notch and I hope the good work continues into next season.

I don't know. I think that character is too close to Felicity. Rather have a new character an actual wheelchair user can play, plus you know people will demanding to see her as Batgirl.

SDCC panel's been announced:

SATURDAY, JULY 21
...
Supergirl (The CW) | Cast members Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Katie McGrath and Jesse Rath, and EPs Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller and Sarah Schechter talk Season 4. (3:30 pm, Ballroom 20)
Nice to see Melissa gets to take the time off from her show to attend.

they couldn't do the panel without Melissa

They did Smallville panels for years without Tom Welling. It happens.

I remember Sarah Michelle Gellar notoriously would not do panels despite playing the title role of Buffy. Its not completely uncommon for the main star to not do these things. It would have went on without Melissa

I dont think panels are the same now as they were back then. Nothing like SDCC was around back then. All they had were upfronts if im not mistaken.

But SDCC is a whole different beast nowadays compared to the Smallville days, it is a huge marketing push that I dont think TheCW would allow their star to miss.

It can happen, but in this day & age if someone misses a panel at SDCC, then there's a trending # about how they hates the show and wants out... complete with numerous articles before the panel is finished.

You can't have a show panel now at SDCC without the main actor/actress

By Rao, Alex' s new arsenal!?
I haven't seen a slowmo unpacking bullet like that since Ricochet Rabbit!
LOL just caught another one, a whole energy-net unpacks from one bullet.
Nobody else gets the Ricochet-Rabbit vibe from Alex's new gun:woot:

Sorry just catching up, are we getting a Legion spin-off?

Not that anyone has heard....

I can't imagine getting a Legion of Superheroes show as long as Legends of Tomorrow is still around. Too conceptually similar, imo.
