I totally get that, but IMO there is a way to compromise, and for me IF you are going to give your title character less time, then the time they are on screen must be used well MEANING, they do not step aside and allow the sidekick to do the work...meaning you as the writer makes sure that when they are on screen THEY are the SUPER one. So to me that isnt a workload problem, that is a writing problem...there is not a question on Arrow who is the #1, but on Supergirl and Flash it is questionable. When comparing to Season 1 I believe u need that WOW/Emotional factor in a scene ... like say, the ship scene between Alex and Supergirl in Season 2 at least 4x a season. Or the lifting of the Submarine in Season 3. U dont need one of these every episode, every other episode, but maybe 1 per 6 or so eps. Or an episode where Supergirl starts and finishes the villain every once in awhile as in Mr. and Mrs. Mxy... Not really asking for a Season 1 amount of wow factor....just some wow thrown in every so often. IMO, that isn't asking a whole lot. I hope the new writer understands that there is a way to handle that. And the editing and stunts need to work on the stuntwork between Melissa and her stunt double, there was a time in the finale in the fight between Lockwood and Supergirl it was EXTREMELY obvious when it was the double, whereas Chyler and her double it was much more seamless....so I know they can do it.

I'm all for WOW. I think the needle can be moved towards more action/hand to hand. As for the editing and stunt work I think Chyler's way more into hand to hand stuff than Melissa. I think Melissa's more into wirework than hand to hand stuff but it's part of the role so she should do more. The submarine and space ship were wirework. Stephen's all about the stunt work and does everything he's allowed to. Let's see what the new writer brings to the table.

Well, they can do it right for sure, the fight scene with Supergirl and the multiple Eve's is a perfect example. Not a huge fight scene, but a fun one to watch....also the fight scene between Otis and Supergirl was excellent as well....so it can be done, they just need to be consistent. Honestly the fight scene between Supergirl and Lockwood brought back memories of some of the bad stunt work in the early days of Buffy.

Seriously though, slow-mo needs to be retired on this show. It NEVER looks good.

Nah, I chalked that off to the learning curve of Supergirl, the fight between Non and Supergirl in FTGWHE was very well done. And there were no bad wigs on Supergirl, except on one stand in in Season 2.....until the fight between Lockwood and Supergirl. SMH if all Supergirl is doing is landing...then no need for a double, therefore no need to make sure u dont stand up and face your enemy too early. Those kind of details take me out of the moment.

Every fight between SG and Astra looked awful, imo. And Indigo. And Bizarro. I don't remember the one with Non except Kara's emotional content (the part with her beating the crap out of him over what she lost). But the only time slow-mo has worked on this show is when Jesse Warn has used it for emotional stuff (like the heat-vision bit in "Red Faced"), not for "cool action moves." They just need to stop with the wire-fu and stop with the slow-mo. I thought they'd learned that lesson by now (as action scenes from S3 mostly suggested), but apparently not quite.

The Kryptonian power-set is just generally much better demonstrated through CGI these days, even on the low budget. Like so:

The Reign fight remains this show's gold standard, imo. And the one shot in that fight I don't like just so happens to be the one slow-mo, purely wire-work shot (the one toward the end where Reign flips her and blasts her with her heat vision to the top of the building).


Or in that shot you mentioned, Kelly, the last one with her vs. all the Tessmachers. That was CGI, and that looked cool.

Even this cartoonish-looking silliness looked better than what we got with Supergirl vs. Red Daughter in "Red Dawn" -

The ONLY time the Supergirl vs. Astra fights didn't look like crap was when they transitioned to CGI:

And when it cut back to the wire work shots, it looked like crap again, imo.

Yes, the fights look blurry. But with two godlike beings with super-strength and super-speed, that's exactly what they should look like. That's like the ONE thing I will give credit to Zack Snyder for getting right, lol.

Well, difference of opinion I guess....

OR, its simply Supergirl is actually in a fight scene....lmao....maybe that's why I can see past any problems in the earlier seasons, she was actually fighting someone. Despite any problems I had with the stunt work, it was nice seeing her actually in a fight the last quarter of the season. Had missed it since Ep. 4

She fought a dragon in episode 6, and it was one of the most fun action sequences of the show, imo. And she fought the Elite in Episode 13, though the coolest part of that was her destroying that satellite, she got plenty of Super-action in Elseworlds, fought that invisible alien in episode 10, Red Daughter saw plenty of action in "House of L" (and Kara fought Lex in the beginning too), she fought the Eve's in episode 20...It's not been nearly the action/fight drought you paint it as.

But I dunno, I'll always prefer a good story over clunky action anyway, and S4 delivered that better than any other season, so I'm good. If I were watching this show for the action, I'd have checked out after the 3rd episode (and not come back this time, lmao), because action has NEVER been their strong-suit.

What is the reason you watch this show for?

My own reason is Kara herself (though the show disappoints me in how little they explore her internal life especially in latter seasons*), Danvers Sisters, Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh, with MB and CL playing a big part even in my love for Kara.

I think if those four elements get completely destroyed and I'd leave the show. However, at least, 2 out of four has always been there; and many a time 3/4.

*For example, I don't want it harped on, but I'd like at least one episode every season exploring Kara's anger and sense of loss, which is a big part of the character along with her sunshiny nature and compassion. They did that in the past seasons: that is why Red Faced, For the Girl Who has Everything, Girl of Steel and Triggers are my favourite episode.

This season, they could have had an episode where she feels angry and betrayed at the way the country and the world she has strove to protect treats her (completely different from the way they lost faith in S1 when she was still new); because it would have been natural for an immigrant to experience. There were scenes where Melissa Benoist expressed those emotions, but they were never explored. (The scene where she burns the photos in Kasnia comes to mind; or the one where she saves that guy from the car.)

She could have talked to Alex and J'onn about it. Not just the confusion she felt in the earlier episodes but anger and a punch at a table or something along with talking.

While trying to give the story from both sides and the balance, they didn't take as much time trying to tell the story of how Kara would feel and how justified she would be in feeling that. (Which is pretty much the case through out the show. Kara is left to flounder in her feelings without the show providing any justification for it through just a discussion with other characters, so that people judge her for not being the finest, most perfect and giving person ever.). I consider that unfair to Kara.

Some of it is on the viewers but some of it is on the show.

Note: Apologies. I was just curious about that question and then I ended up writing an exposition on my own feelings on the show.

Similar to yours, but for me, it's probably Kara, the Danvers sisters releationship, Martian Manhunter, and the Luthors. I love those Luthors. J'onn's stuff often leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm a big fan of the character in the comics, and every now and then the show has beautiful moments of tragedy and pathos with him that remind me just why that character gets to me so much. And plus, even more than MM, I'm a massive, massive fan of the Supers in general (Superman of course being my favorite fictional character in existence) and their whole universe, so any time the show involves pieces of that mythos is a big plus for me, as well.

And I too wish they would focus more on Kara's anger, trauma and sense of loss. That's probably my #1 wish for the show, as it's one of he most interesting aspects of her character in the comics that separates her from her cousin, imo. I mean, I don't want the show to turn into an angst-fest, but I thought their handling of those issues in the early part of S3 was too good (I agree "Girl of Steel" and "Triggers" are two of the show's highlights) to just forget about for the rest of the series. This is part of why I'm hoping for a Red Lantern Kara storyline at some point, so that it could be a driving force in the plot.

J'onn and Kara is one of my favourite relationships too (after the Danvers Sisters, J'onn is my favourite character and their relationship with him is my favourite relationship). This season though, while J'onn and Kara were together more than ever, there seemed to be less talk and support of their common threads--probably because they were busy examining J'onn's identity crisis. I liked the identity crisis and it seemed natural after such a loss, but I didn't quite understand the Manchester Black part of it. And, it seemed a waste of Manchester Black.

May be he will come back in the future.

And, may be they will try Red Lantern in S6.

Most of that u mentioned is in the back half of the season, which I've stated many times has been some of the best episodes of the series, including more action....I would like more action like the supe vs. super, supe vs. Reign, supe vs. the Daxamites on the ship saving Monel...not every episode, or hell not even more than say once every 5 episodes, but we did not have those kinds of fights except in the back half. As far as how I paint it, it is simply my opinion I paint all the time. Not really debating the issue to be frank, my opinion is pretty well set on that matter. As I have also stated. I can pick enjoyable pieces out of many of the episodes this season, yes the Dragon was fun....as a whole however, I can only say that the back half held my attention and got more 2nd watches than the first half. I don't really see that changing for me.

I do wonder if you can modify the Red Lantern stuff, what with Red Kryptonite. I am kind of shocked they never brought it back, considering that is considered one of the best episodes of the series.

I was thinking it would've been cool if they had Valerie Perinne guest star as someone related to Eve Teschmacher. She was the original one from the movies.

Unfortunately I found out she has Parkinson's now. I didn't know she was that ill. As Andrea Brooks says "she's very ill".

Well I'm sure that's a bonus, lol. But a lot of people have been arguing for pants for a while, since the character has had them in recent comics/video games, so yeah, not too surprising.

I thought it was perfect too. If they wanted to upgrade it, then maybe give her shorter boots. I don't think it will look as classic with pants.
