Supergirl Supergirl Season 2 Episode 14 "Homecoming" MAJOR SPOILERS

I half-expect the feelings and such to either be resolved between episodes or off-screen. As much as I hated the whole bit in Season One about Alex not just telling Kara right off the bat about killing Astra and not letting J'onn take the blame, that at least spanned over...what, two or three episodes? We got to see Kara process it all before the truth came rushing out, even if I found that entire situation a bit contrived.

Here, though, the moments like Maggie comforting Alex or Mon-El comforting Kara, I feel, would've been better saved for the next installment of this particular storyline because it's not over yet. They need to process it, sure, but the fact that the processing is interrupted by Winn's call regarding Jeremiah having the registry makes those little emotional scenes feel a bit out of place.

I feel like they really need to start world building Supergirl outside of just National City.
Yes, every DC/CW show has it's "thing" that gives it its own unique flavor - Arrow has the "grounded" vigilante stuff, Flash has meta-humans/speed force stuff, Legends has time travel. Supergirl's "thing" is aliens - which means their Earth is well aware there are a ton of habitable worlds out there and civilizations that are clearly capable of traveling here, and so far, they really aren't exploring that at all. The writers just treat aliens like meta-humans and use them for social commentary about current events. They could do SO much more. I want them to get ambitious the way The Flash crew did when they embraced all the time-traveling, dimension-hopping possibilities their premise allowed for.

If the main thing holding them back from telling stories with bigger scope is the fact that they don't have free access to Superman and it's hard to write something too big without including him, then send him off-world for some reason and make Supergirl and Martian Manhunter Earth's prime protectors for the foreseeable future. The world of the Supers is SO colorful and epic, and this show seems afraid to do more than just barely scratch the surface. And it shouldn't be a budget restraint, not with everything The Flash has been able to do so far, so it's gotta be a writers thing, imo.

I think it's mostly the writers thing about not letting Supergirl reach its potential compared to the Flash.

This drama between Kara and Alex wasn't really necessary, but I also agree that they seemed to prop Mon-El up at the expense of everyone else.

Especially with S2 of The Flash introducing Earth 2, I am still waiting for something similar for Supergirl, and not just a desert alien planet where she loses her powers and gives a thoughtful speech to get the civilians to fight.

A lot forced drama in this episode. Also don't like how the heroes were dumbed down (except Mon-El) so that the Cadmus could succeed in this episode.

Kara ending up on Slaver's Moon without powers sounds like a great storyline to me, but they'd actually have to, ya know, dedicate some actual time to it in order for it to work. Not have her go there 15 minutes into a 42-minute episode and have her back 20 minutes later after being imprisoned for all of 5 minutes and giving a speech. I don't get why they can't seem to handle properly serialized arcs on this show. The one thing that excites me about next week's promo is that it actually looks like a continuation of this week's storyline for once.

I'm concerned that Alex's feelings for her father are going to put Supergirl, the DEO, National City, and the aliens in danger.

I was hoping her new gun would have a stun setting, but apparently not. And even though I expect Jeremiah to be working as a double agent, if he had appealed to Alex at the end to 'give him some time,' would have to much of a 'reveal.'

Also, I really enjoy Mon-El as a character, and I think Chris and Melissa have fantastic chemistry, but I've decided I just don't like them as a couple. Basically, if the last couple episodes are any indication, I don't like how Mon-El has been written since he officially assumed The Boyfriend role. Maybe if they had let Mon-El grow as a person more before they had Kara fall for him, it would have worked better for me, but as it is, I can't help but think, "nah Kara, you deserve better than this." She insists she can handle Mxy, and jealousy gets the better of him so he doesn't listen. He apologizes and says he'll respect her and listen to her from now on, she forgives him. The very next episode, she expresses her wishes for privacy, he immediately disregards them. He apologizes, she forgives him. She tells him to say ONE nice thing to Jeremiah, he disregards her, dinner blows up, but all's forgiven because he was right about Jeremiah. And the fact that he never listens to/or respects her wishes is just swept under the rug. This is officially a pattern now, and not a good one.

Mon-El in Boyfriend!Mode reminds me too much of Riley Finn from Buffy. And I want to continue liking Mon-El, so I hope that comparison doesn't stick, lol.

Mon-El not respecting Kara's wishes and privacy could come into play later this season when this Daxamite royal couple shows up, along with Jeremiah knowing who Mon-El really is.

I don't see James/ Guardian having any reason to be in this episode.

I guess the writers felt the same way. This is two weeks in a row with no James/Guardian.

This episode looks like its going to be good!!

Even Cyborg Jeremiah is open minded.

It looks like Mon-El is causing this conflict more than Jeremiah. I wonder if he's trying to divide the Danvers sisters so he can keep Kara to himself.

I think Mon-El is just concerned that Kara is going to get her heart broken when Kara realizes Jeremiah isn't who she thinks he is. I think Mon-El likes Alex so I don't see why he would want to hurt her like that.

I guess only Star Trek phasors have a stun setting. Or Alex hasn't found the button for it yet.

I wonder how Kara is going to take it. Will it be the final deal breaker or will she forgive him and take him back again. Assuming the creatures searching for him don't take Mon-El back first. Or if they do, will Kara go searching for him, or just let him go.

I think next week is going to be three in a row without James.

If I were Kara, I'd let Mon-El's pursuers take him. If she finds out that Mon-El is a royal prince of Davan, he will not get the blessings from Superman, Jor-El, and Jeremiah. We already know how Lara's hologram felt about him.

Prop him up, to take him down....me thinks that is the future. :cwink:

Great episode. Much better than last week's. I was a bit surprised that Mon El was suddenly alot aggressive and suspicious than he normally is as far as[BLACKOUT] Mr Danvers thing was concerned[/BLACKOUT].

He actually seemed alot more like James is usually written than his own character.

I guess since James is really out of the DEO orbit storyline wise, and they needed a character to rain on the parade , it made the most sense for it to be Mon El, given that he's still an outsider to the group in alot of ways, and to play up the relationship tension with Kara.

Jeremiah returning within the first segment was so anticlimatic, especially how it happened. I wish they had shown he and Eliza reuniting.

Kara in a sexual relationship. Thats refreshing bc it felt so normal. I like it

Alex: "He's my father."

Kara: "He's mine too." Since when? She hasnt claimed him in the past and its a criticism Ive had with her. Awfully convenient that she says this now.

Great episode though. Loved the family drama we got. I was expecting Jeremiah to be revealed as a fake

I'll be the first to harp on bad writing (just look at my score for this ep, lol), BUT, I actually think this makes some character sense given her recent disillusionment with Zor-El. It's not like she's gonna start calling Jeremiah "Dad" - they will always be "Eliza" and "Jeremiah" to her - but it makes sense on a psychological level that she'd start subconsciously "choosing" to see Jeremiah as more of a father in light of recent events, imo.

the last bit in the end confused me, what is that big black thing Danvers and Luthor was looking at?

I feel that this episode should have been two instead of one. The arc here should have been stretched over at least four episodes. They could have given a full episode to let Jeremiah settle back into the DEO before giving the 'bad' cues.

And yes, Jeremiah is doing this to protect his daughters, but I think he would be a fool to trust Lillian to hold to any deal.

agreed with that.

but it is a good ep. a bit simplistic though, or maybe this is just a really neat end to Act 1 of a two Act play or something. in any case i think they couldve done a bit more to build up Jeremiah's return to all who loves before they yanked the rug from under them.

The show's plot holes to advance overarching stories are getting ridiculous.

When Kara gets drawn to the empty warehouse, she could be back at the DEO in seconds. Jeremiah with a metal arm beats up J'onn. The DEO has servers or hard drives inside their monitors.

At least we got an answer on the Kara "virgin/non-virgin" thing.

I liked the ep. And I don't think it's a coincidence that the better/more interesting eps are the ones with no or little James/Guardian. There's no denying it. James is the dead weight of the group - they could write off or drop the character entirely and it wouldn't really affect the story as it stands now.

and therein lies the problem I have with Supergirl. Over the past few months, I binge-watched Flash and Arrow to get caught up with all of the seasons. And, despite being less familiar with those characters, I found myself enjoying those shows more than Supergirl.

And I think a factor in that is that I enjoy the "group dynamic" of both Arrow and Flash more than the group dynamic in Supergirl.

As someone who was onboard the "Jeremiah should be Cyborg Superman" train, the "twist" here, though obvious, still works well in terms of potential future stories imo.

Chyler Leigh has been one of the highlights of this show for awhile now. So no surprise that she his here as well.

Kara had sex finally.

That Alex/Maggie scene was really good.

Mon-el making the completely obvious and logical point of "isn't this all too easy and convenient? Something doesn't smell right here." Yes Mon-el, yes it is and no it doesn't.

I can buy Alex and Kara being just blinded by happiness at getting their father to want to believe it, at least at first. But J'onn comes across like an idiot here. HE at least should be asking these questions to. Although I guess Jeremiah saving his life the last time that they saw each other clouded his judgment maybe.
