Drop it with the initials talk, or the thread's gone. Discuss in PMs or something, but it's not a point I'm talking about again.
Ha,ha
So what you're saying is that if we payed for our accounts then this would be like any other porn site...
Honestly, anytime you have rules there are going to be times when it appears to be too restrictive. I saw BHK's avatar but did not make much of it, because I've seen some really risque ones. But if someone saw it and got offended then I guess you really can't blame the Hype for reacting.
No. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the site, but Something Awful has it set up so that you buy your account, as well as paying for extra things like avatars, use of the "search function", and you can even drop $30 USD and buy a smiley [code, you'd have to have the image ready]. Granted, they do it because it costs them three grand plus to run that site monthly, however, you won't see any kids running around on there, that's for sure. They're infinitely more strict with rule enforecement than we are, even though the rules aren't as strict.
Unfortunately, this site isn't a democracy. Small stuff, I see mods making a concession on but even if you got the entire messageboard to sign off on something, it would make diddily squat with the moderators.
A lot of times, yes, but that doesn't mean that the occasional good idea goes unnoticed
ULtimately i think there is no general concensus to the way certain things are moderated.
Some things are allowed in some threads and some boards and not in others.
i mean there is a whole thread based on illegal spiderman 3 avatars and gifs and moderators turn a blind eye to the piracy.
A lot of times, though, it boils down to us not knowing about it. It's everyone's duty to report bad posts. We can't be everywhere at once, and we're not paid enough [read-at all] for us to WANT to take the time out of our lives to go read every single little post.
there are people with constantly have spoilers in their avatars but if you place a spoiler in a thread title even inside a spoiler board, that is sometimes a bannable offence (even though i have seen some users do this in the transformers board and nothing been done about it).
You can turn off avatars. However, you can't turn off thread titles. An example would be myself. I'm generally trying to stay spoiler-free for the new Batman movie, and as such, I rarely go into the Spoiler Bat forum. However, if someone titles a thread "Joker vs. Toxic Avenger in movie?!!??", then, when I hit "New Posts", I can see that title, regardless of if I went into the forum or not. I don't wanna be spoiled, and I avoid the spoilers section, yet something is ruined for me.
again, it all comes down to a matter of taste and which moderators are looking at what at a given time and if these things are contained in a certain thread. What really needs to be done is some sort of standardization for moderators to operate under and have this shown to hype members so they no exactly what they are dealing with.
This has been brought up several times before. And each time, it's shot down. One of the biggest reasonings is because of the fact that if it were the case, then we'd be doling out probos and bans to EVERYONE, first timers or not. None of us like that idea, because generally we tend to get to know certain people within our groups, and know that people can be decent posters, if they wish to be. You think we're nazi now? Wait til we end up having to ban someone popular because they barely tread on the wrong side because a discussion got them heated up. It's the same thing with traffic cops. Some will give you a ticket for going five over, some won't.
the thing is that any moderator can go rogue with their discretion and the bigger moderators and bosses will ALWAYS back up their decisions to show they are all on the same page when reality i dont think this is the case.
Not the case. There's been several times when mod decisions were overturned by higher-ups [that whole Morg/Movies205 deal back in December is brought to mind, as well as a few other times]. Generally, we are all on the same page, yes. But we're not fools.
