Superman (2025) Teaser Trailer Reaction Thread

.
Anything light and uplifting is Marvel cheese! They invented it!

They also even invented pets! women! A moral compass! ... and Bat-Mite!
And that line about great power and great responsibility

The trailer was everything I hoped for. Since I haven't read through all the posts, did anyone else notice there was no title card in the trailer. That is a genuine big move, telling us it's Superman without the need for an actual title card. Very few characters or franchises can get away with that.

Hoping the movie delivers. I love MoS but if the movie had lived up to Trailer 3, the DCEU would be going strong to this day.

Wait until his pansexual cousin comes to visit with her partner Lena.
What if anyone on wonder woman(I'm not going to attempt to spell it) land have relationships!??!?! Women and lesbian relations!?? How will the world handle it!?

Yeah, picking on the loyal steadfast canine companion who is, Helping Superman and no problems with the Kaiju wreaking havoc on the city?
People really like this argument, and it's such a bad-faith one.
Umm, yes... an alien dog that can fly and somehow understand complex human instructions, and is also somehow super long living is far far less believable than an alien monster coming to Earth.

Degree is a thing. Maybe I can suspend my disbelief about an alien monster being brought here by a malevolent force, but the more you force me to do it.... by doing things like having flying dogs or regular people not dying, etc... you make it harder and harder to do so. And thus more difficult it is for the stakes to feel real, and for the suspense to not feel forced. What you are essentially saying is, "since we have a character that can fly, that means that physics or likeliness no longer have to be a concern." And I'm sorry, that's nonsense.

Krypto is a dumb idea made up for ten year olds. Yes... Superman is for 10 year olds, but he's for 16 year olds too, 18 year olds too, 30 year olds too. And grown up audiences have to like this movie. The only thing he does is lessen the stakes and make the whole thing feel like less of a threat and more like a joyride.

The opposite would be weird af because with an island full of women, odds are they are going to have relationships with other women. Themyscira being inhabitated by lesbian Amazons is like the most organic route you could take.

All the “grown ups” I’ve seen on reactor channels got more excited for Krypto than anything else in the trailer. I’m 39-years-old and he was my favorite part. Some of us just don’t need our superhero content to be super serious or “realistic” when already dealing with kaijus and flying alien strongmen. And giving us another character that elicits emotional investment like Krypto doesn’t actually lower the stakes, it heightens them, because we already care what happens to him (which should come heavily into play in Woman of Tomorrow if they stick to the inciting incident of that comic). No one’s saying you have to like him, but just know you’re not speaking for all the “grown-ups” in the room.

Well your anecdotal experience aside, I doubt that's true.

Like I said.. it's about stakes. You want a cartoon? That's fine... there's already plenty, but fine... But to say that all cartoons are equal.. that it's either all or nothing, is profoundly dumb.

No, making a cartoon character that can come out of nowhere and save our hero does not raise the stakes, at all.

I'm not saying that I speak for all grown ups, but clearly, Krytpto is meant for comedic escape, not dramatic effect.

James Gunn knows how to balance comedy and drama for the most part, and from the trailer alone you can see Corenswet's Superman is majorly struggling in this movie which will be intriguing to see. To say that this movie will have no weight and just be endless comedy skit after comedy skit is a great disservice to Gunn as a storyteller. Also, really demeaning to the animation medium as a whole by calling this a "cartoon".

I agree that Gunn seems really good at finding a balance. He probably will.

I saw Conrenswet's Superman sort of struggling... only to be miraculously saved by a plot device that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I'm not saying the movie will have no weight. I'm saying that it could very easily have less weight, due to Krypto.

I never said that it would be an endless comedy skit after comedy skit.

I love cartoons and animations... I prefer my live action films to embrace the live action element, instead of trying to emulate cartoons. That's my preference. I'm a grown up. I like grown up themes, personally. I understand that the character is for kids too.. I'm okay with that... but yes.. if I had my way, I'd prefer a grounded approach that puts Superman in a world comparable to the one I live in. That to me, seems more exciting. Gunn is going a different way, obviously, and that worries me somewhat, but I'm still pretty optimistic that it'll be a fun, awesome movie, because Gunn does know how to play emotional moments and comedy and action really well. I'm just sharing my concerns.

Fantastical whimsy in live-action =/= cartoon. Or dumb. Careful insulting people’s taste here. Won’t get you far.

Krypto can bring comedy, heart and also, as Grant Morrison proved in one tearjerker of a comic, poignancy. Besides that, not everything has to be there for “dramatic effect.” That’s a recipe for a boring slog that wouldn’t resemble any Supes comic I know. We just had that cinematic Superman. He sucked.

Except we've already had that type of grounded-ish approach with Man Of Steel, so regardless of whether one liked that or not, I'm not sure why embracing the more fantastical aspects of Superman this go-around is a bad thing?

First of all, you have zero idea of what Krypto can do, why he is there or what purpose he serves. It's like 10 seconds in a teaser...but comic relief is neither a bad thing nor does it take away the stakes when done right. The MCU has made a cottage industry out of it.

Second, Krypto doesn't change the stakes anymore than Guy Gardner does. He could save Clark at any time he wears one of the most powerful weapons in the universe.

Third its hard to comment on stakes when you have no idea of the threat...

I think you are overthinking this a bit, but I understand where you are coming from even if I disagree.

The trailer is great but you are always gonna find a Debbie downer on a message board. It’s a two and half hour 4 quadrant movie don’t over think it. Enjoy……

I know some wanted Batman to make the save or for Damien to finish Supes off. That would be serious.

Also, you gotta be deaf and blind (with all due respect to the people who are), to still believe that the movie won't have any stakes after seeing the trailer.

P.S.: All of Gunn's movies have stakes.

Not sure if you realise how hostile and patronising you are sounding, so just thought I'd reflect that back to you a bit. To be clear, you are talking to grown ups here.. and it's not 'dumb' to have a different opinion to you.

Secondly - Krypto can ABSOLUTELY raise the stakes. Have you read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? When an audience is introduced to a dog in a story/movie, any threat to that dog becomes a major investment emotionally. And that works for pretty much any animal. I mean... its actually one of the things Gunn is known for 😅 The stakes are high in GOTG 3 precisely because we got so much focus on the backstory of a talking racoon that we care deeply and hate the bad guy even more!

It is your assumption he serves no function other than comic relief and that his inclusion makes the story 'cartoony'.
