Superman Returns Superman Returns:Final Thoughts

So guess you are saying it could have been worse? Faint praise if ever I heard it.

Forget spiders and bastard sons - just give us a real Superman film. Something I do not thing the current Singer team is capable of doing.

Not really saying that, just injecting some timely humor, at your expense.

It's all in good fun though. :yay:

Edit.
i agree showtime ..

I don't know how it could be any worse than what we are seeing with some posters , but i agree :D;)

I think folks should calm down and at least wait to see what singer has in mind for the sequel before dismissing it so easily.

Trouble is some of us have absolutely no confidence in Singer or the writers or th FX team for that matter. It will be a huge mistake IMO if WB allows Singer to go forward and they will pay where it hurts ultimately - the corporate bottom line.

As far as I'm concerned Singer had his chance and totally blew it. The risk is far too high for me to want his continuity to continue cause if his sequel does not do lots, lots better than SR the Superman film franchise is dead for probably decades to come.

I second that motion...

I only hope some of the people on this thread are more more flexible with (and not so critical of) other people's ideas in the real world.

This isn't the real world, and in the real world people disagree, even if they understand somebody else's opinion. It's called real life.

Well , seeing the state of the world , i'm not sure.

and i'm even less confident about the future of this world , seeing what some can do over a movie ..

Disagreeing(respecfully) is good ,criticism is good , but fanatism? ...

Superman is a symbol for hope and light. He inspires us to be better people, to become a more enlightened society. I hope that's what everyone else wants too. That's what I was hoping that Singer and his gang were aiming for.

that's the way I see Superman as well... and I didn't get that feeling at all in SR.

I also didn't get any of that feeling from Superman Returns. In Singer's film, Superman is a more self centered guy, it was about his own selfish life. Where's my crystals Lex, I'm leaving so I can find more like me. Lois likes someone else, boo hoo. I don't think people want me anymore.

True enough, however far too often on these threads a person's opinions or criticisms are dismissed or talked down about because they go against the grain of the majority.

For instance, I have not seen the Donner cut nor have I watched the original Superman movies since they came out in theaters. I based my opinion of Superman Returns on the content of the movie itself, the story it was telling, and my own interpretation of what I was seeing and hearing. I didn't come in with any preconceived notions of what it should or should not contain...in other words, I was unbiased.

I enjoyed the movie, regardless of any questionable content or actions that occurred in it. I remember as a boy thinking how cool it would be to be able to do the things Superman could do...seeing it in high definition with today's incredible effects only harkened me back to those days.

Want to dismiss or criticize my opinion; go ahead. Want to threaten not to support or attend another Superman movie because of a specific director; feel free. You're not hurting me, you're voluntarily denying yourself the opportunity to be a kid again and to see the world as it could be, not as it is.

...end of sermon.

you got it all wrong... the first time i saw it, i was taken back to the time of being a little kid, but right after the credits, it began to be a complete bore. by the time they got to the NK scene, i yawned...

the entire movie didn't feel like SUperman. I just wish it took me one time to figure that out instead of 11 times...

The following quote from Jam! ShowBiz is a reflection of how SR did not connect with the masses as a Superman film as reflected in Brandon Routh's situation today. Kal Penn has offered Routh a cameo role in the next Kummar film which is sort of sad really. Had SR actually made people believe a man could fly again Routh would not now be fading back into anonymity:

"Or that Brandon Routh, touted just 12 months ago for super-stardom as soon as he was announced as the new Man of Steel in Superman Returns, would remain more anonymous than not in the first days of 2007 after the would-be blockbuster sputtered more than soared?"

...confirming my comment about people dismissing others' opinions. Because my opinion of the film differs from yours doesn't make it wrong...it makes it different.

I can accept that many people didn't care for the movie...why is it so difficult for others to accept that many people did like it?

Agreeing to disagree, not disparage someone's opinion...there's an idea.

You hate Superman Returns. WE GET IT! Otherwise, that is YOUR opinion and you can't force people, who likes Superman Returns, change their opinions and make them to hate Superman Returns.

Geez.

Superman Returns is one of my favourite film next to Batman Begins. Superman Returns was amazing and all is I loved everything in it, execpt the savior lines.

The entire board has degenerated into "I like the film" and "I don't like the film" being repeated over and over.. there is no real discussion.

See, Singer's film has split the fanbase!

Depends on which topic, Superman as a character or Singer's version of Superman...we're all still fans of Superman; you're correct however in asserting that there is a definite split between the opinions of people that like or dislike Singer's work.

I'm gonna give you the same speech...

I don't dismiss other people's opinions as much as other people here do, but when someone blindly screams that they love something and then accuse others that don't of being wrong, yeah, I'm gonna ignore that.

For some reason you think that I don't accept the fact that people like the movie... and that's not true. In fact, I have no problem with it... it makes the board more enjoyable with discussions, but don't expect the haters of the film to not challenge your opinion of the film, like you do to us...

I have a funny feeling the WB board is basically cracking their heads over whether to keep Singer or not. It's kind of a lose-lose situation.

to me, it is a lose-lose situation, but they're not gonna get rid of the guy who made this superman... why would they? He made them money... So they're willing to keep going with the director, even though the character suffers from it... WB doesn't care about their franchise... they just want money.

I actually agree with you, I don't think opinions should be dimissed, but since this is a board designed for discussion and debate...
