Are downloadable fighters in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom possible? Is this up to Capcom or does it have something to do with Nintendo?
Seth: To answer the question, it has a lot to do with Nintendo, but it is technically possible. It is not something we're planning at the moment, however.
Could we pre-pay, in full, for a game before it even enters into development in order to minimize Capcom's risk?
Ultimately 250k people agree. Capcom would be ensured that it won't lose money on the game before it even begins work on it. Would this work to get games green lighted that were too risky to get approved before?
Sven: Even if you could get past the legal hurdles of doing something and even if you think you could get reasonable numbers like this, it could be 3 to 4 years between putting down your money and actually getting a product out the other end.
Add to that that preorders figures on games, which typically take $5 down to place and where there's LOTS to show and actually demonstrate what the game's execution actually is, (trailers, demos, screen shots, previews, etc.) it's rare that that figure tops a few tens of thousands much less the hundred+ thousands, at full price that you're talking about.
From an executional standpoint, it seems highly improbable.
