The Dark Knight TDK Nearly Upon Us: A SHH Reflection Thread

After CFE excellent post i have really nothing to add...except agree with this with all my heart:

''It has been an privelege...and an honor to follow the creation of this dazzling comic book spectacle with the finest Batman fans I've ever known on and off the internet. You all are a truly unique breed of fan, and I cherish every day I can follow this crazy world of comic book movies with each and every one of you.''

Jack Nicholson getting pissed off that he wasn't asked to return as the Joker.

Long time lurker here, first of all - hello everyone.

I remember getting excited from the moment I saw the Joker card in Begins....

Then hearing Heath Ledger was cast as Joker, not wanting to believe it was true. I can hold my hand up and say I was 100% wrong. From what I've seen, he owns the role and I hope it gets the accolades it deserves when the film is on general release. RIP Heath

I remember watching and waiting for that damn pumpkin to burn down - my wife and brother telling me I need to get a life, it's only a film (yeah right!!)

Watching from afar with envious eyes when the whole cakes thing was going on (I'm in the UK - too far away from the bowling balls too!!!!)

Waiting for sneak pics, debating whether to look at them but always giving in.

I've never been so excited about a film in all my life (I'm 30-something) and I know it won't let me down.

Thank you all so very much for making my time waiting for this film so enjoyable. I check these boards daily and I have no idea what I'm going to do when the film is out.

I often reflect upon how I broke the news to SHH that Heath was going to play the Joker. A very fond memory of this whole thing.

Another reflection is the nights we got trailers 2 and 3, and the bootleg we got of trailer 3 at like 3 am. Good times.

And Welcome Bulla!

great post CFE. thats pretty much exactly how it went down from the start.

although i don't have as many posts as a lot of the people round here....i'm guessing i joined these forums shortly after batman begins came out.

there was this whole bettany v hulme thing going on.....which seemed to stem from jett insisting that hulme was a potential choice and had been talking to wb. which later turned out to be complete b.s when he interviewed him. i think the whole bettany link was bogus too....even though i wanted him to be the joker at the time.

my guess is....of all the actors linked to the role other than heath....the one that may have actually had discussions or offered the role could have well been sean penn. don't ask me why...that's just my gut feeling. i think he could have brought the same type of character to the role as heath has.

speaking of ledger.....i disagree that there was uproar once he had been cast. i think the majority of this forum and bof said "lets give him a chance". i think it was mainly columnists for movie sites that were saying that it was a bad choice.

i will admit that i for one hated the idea of a scarred smile and makeup for the look of the joker. jett did get this right. he was going on about it way before anyone else. amazingly at the time i didn't want the joker to wear purple, i wanted a black trench coat. the clothing he ended up with is very similar to my vision....but with different colors. it took me a while to get used to the idea of the smile....but i was sold on the makeup once i had seen it moving in the first trailer.

people comparing heaths joker voice to that of Beetlejuice.... hehe :oldrazz:

In the very first teaser trailer i mean.

Ah the Bettany vs Hulme debate.
I was Hulme all the way :hoboj:

The Teaser Trailer got me hooked . Then the viral Marketing, followed by The First poster "Why So Serious" ? then the second Trailer . From then on my excitment just encreased as more TDK related stuff continued until the premiere .

I was thinking about starting this topic earlier today when I was walking to the bus stop ha ha. Ive been introducing the lady to the whole world of Batman, and she is really beginning to love it, even saying I would play an awesome Joker!
Today I lent her Year One, MWL, TJK, and TLH. I think she'll be on here in no time ha ha.

Im just gonna base my memories on the Joker hype.

I remember when I first saw BB. I thought what a great film, OMG, is that a Joker card? Johnny Depp for me please.

The rumours of Bettany, Depp, Glover, and even Mark Hamill with make up were great. Then Heath got cast, and I didn't really mind, I'd never seen him in anything, just heard of him.

Then began the "Crow picture". No he looks a lot like the Crow! Wheres the purple?!
Then...the pumpkin...

I loved the first Joker picture personally. I pretty much expected the exact same thing. Alot of people were generally in favour of it, though others hated it. "Can't he finish his ice cream sundae properly?" one fan said.

And the teaser. His voice was perfect.

The second picture, where he has a knife to Maggie. I thought it was perfect. My hype got raised a little more.

I shall fast forward to the first trailer. When the internet broke down. Everyone had a massive view of what The Joker was going to be in this film.
And the prologue, reading every description, NEEDING to see it.

The posters, the pictures, the leaked pictures, the TV spots, the merchandise.

When Heath died, so many people were disapppointed he wasnt going to see his work, the overall hype, and the inevitable success and adulation his role would bring. I'd like to think when people come out the first midnight showing hes going to be looking down laughing like a maniac:woot:.

The hype for this film has made me rediscover my love for Batman, and all things Joker.
Finding this board has given me countless times of laughs and insight and great discussion, thank you fellow Hypers.

I remember being banned believing my views in ledgers death wasnt cause he was a homosexual and defending it was an honest man whom I knew only through his work and gave it his all.

as far as I know he wasn't gay.

I remember lurking this forum for a good year before I actually joined.
I remember continuing to lurk for a good time after that waiting for people to post new pictures.

Oh I remember thinking to myself what a year it could be for summer hero flicks since last year bombed horribly. You had Ledger, RDJ, Terrance Howard, Ed Norton in films, and Ron Pearlman-Doug Jones reprising roles. So far no disappointments

as far as I know he wasn't gay.

yeah but when you have extremeist and the westboro church involved saying he did a role that was homosexual then he was homosexual was an absolute disgusting moment.

albuquerque

that is all.
I was gonna say. :funny: We've certainly come up with our own lexicons here! "Permawhite," "Albuquerque," "teh puffy"....."hippos"....:hehe:

I remember being here from the beginning, when the first image of Heath as Joker came down, but I managed to somehow miss the whole SDCC funness (:cmad:). I don't really recall Rory the pumpkin, I suppose I just checked in every now and again to see if things changed.

And then I got sick of people asking the same questions again and again in the Mausoleum game so I edited the Wiki page for it and went, "HEY GUYS GO HERE!" and voila! My online notoriety was born. :hehe: And it's got me sucked into the vortex, because I spend more time here or on the Wiki way more than I do at work. :o I have such a love/hate relationship with the ARG now. I hate how obsessed I am (and how much time I waste!) with cataloging everything, but I love it so :woot:

This is the first time I've been this into a film before it came out, watching how it all went down. Most of it has to do with the ARG, cause I figure there are only so many permawhite/suit/Joker discussions I can take before I go, "Eh, I'll just wait and see!"

It's been a seriously fun ride, guys. Thanks for the memories. :yay:

My crowning moment was cracking the code to find the mausoleum link. Was so proud :)
