...says the dude with zero film production experience. :whatever:

Well... if you go on cutting out 5-10 million dollar already finished sequences like Singer did on SR... then it IS unnecessary... can't comment on TS... haven't seen it still.

"If only there was a section on this forum that was 100% dedicated to the Superman film franchise, so people could take that conversation/debate over there instead of in the Terminator: Salvation thread..."

^Such a place does not exist.

did anyone see the new commercials with a huge number 1 on it... saying its the Number 1 action movie of the weekend. Kinda grasping at straws.
Hey at this point TS has to get what it can. :\

I remember watching a few tv spots of Star Trek stating it was still #1 after Angels & Demons beat it the second week.

Weird.

I didn't know Sony financed the rest?

Wow. So it looks like WB's will make some sort of profit if they only put 60 million down?
WB and Sony only paid for distribution rights. From what I understand, Halcyon put up most of the production budget. So neither WB nor Sony will lose much over this. WB might have paid for marketing, though.

This article on T3 may help explain how it works: Edward Jay Epstein.
In this case, Halcyon own the rights and raised the finance mostly by selling the distribution rights to Sony and WB. The distributors pay for marketing and for the US that could have cost as much as the distribution rights.

WB paid 60M for domestic distribution rights. Sony paid 100M for international distribution rights. That IS most of the production budget

WB also paid for domestic marketing and Sony will pay for international marketing

Exactly. Basically Halcyon made the film with the money they got from WB and Sony for the distribution rights. T3 was done the same way.

So says the wanna be Roger Ebert.

LOL. Touche. I better start eating!

You're not still sore over my Underworld: Rise of the Lycans review, I hope.

what killed this movie's success (at least the early one) was Sarah Connor Chronicles imo. The franchise got overexposed by that, it wasnt a blockbuster, big-names-in-credits-only deal anymore, but a low budget, teen drama series with terminator's name in the title. Not to mention those who were unfamiliar with movies and saw a glimpse of SCC definetely said NO to the franchise

From Nikki Finke:
MovieTickets.com says holdover Night at the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian is selling 36% of all its online tickets vs UP which is selling 11%, Angels & Demons 10%, Star Trek 9%, Terminator Salvation 5%.

If a thread is talking about Superman Returns MP must make an appearance.:oldrazz:

I  her so it's all good.

So glad SR performed better than other films such as this one and yeah, Watchmen... :cwink:
And yet we still haven't seen a sequel, quasi-sequel, Routhboot, reboot, whatever you want to call it. :csad:

TTSCC wasn't a teen drama series. Nor was it a bad series. Nor did all that many people watch it.

The problem with Terminator Salvation is that Terminator simply isn't all that popular of a franchise. Plus it's lacking its main attraction, Arnold Schwarzenegger. So that means that it has to build its own success for a large part.

Unfortunately, movies without big names (let's face it, Christian Bale is known only for Batman and he spends most of that movie behind a mask) that look terribly dark (now with extra brooding Bruce Wayne Christian Bale!) and get bad reviews, usually don't become box office hits. And because of the bad word of mouth (because people honestly think it sucks) it'll very likely have no legs either.

People like sequels starring Shia LaBeouf about robots dancing to the Pointer Sisters a lot more.

^Hey, Shia screaming "nononononononono" has proven to sell tix.

T3 killed it. SCC just nailed the coffin. (although i didn't think it was a bad show, it was very unnecessary, just as much as T3 was.)

if terminator salvation came out in T3's place, i think the success would have been much greater, and we would have had at least 2 or 3 more films.
