Again, we're talking about a franchise with now two insanely expensive films under-performed and a television series that flopped. The international box-office isn't going to save it unlike with T3 because Arnold is still a mega-star in the foriegn territories.

The DVD/Blu-Rays will do solid business, but it won't make a difference.

QTF.

The franchise is going to be on ice for a while. I can see them foolishly remaking the first movie 10 years from now but thats it.

I doubt it. Cameron would've put both Bale and the DP in their places. Apparently Cameron's temper makes Bale look like a girl scout.

I remember reading once that Cameron yelled at Leo so badly on the set of Titanic that he left him in tears. And it was for sneaking food to a diabetic extra. :wow:

I can't imagine Bale's rant had any kind of serious impact on the film, though. I thought the movie was OK, better than I thought it would be, but the original two movies were so much better.

I think the quality of the film had an impact on the film. The rant was just publicity and got people talking about the movie. I doubt anyone would not go see it because of the rant. If someone wasn't going to see this movie, it would be because it either didn't interest him/her or they had something better to do...

I miss your old avatar.:csad:

Ironic considering Cameron supposedly wanted Bale for Jack until Fox/Paramount said he could only have one British actor as one of the two leads...and there was no way in Hell he was going to pass up casting Winslet.

Yes... if it gets 120 million in domestic plus another 120 with all those combined I guess the producers are going to be veeery dissapointed with 40 million dollars profit...:whatever:

Have you guys forgotten that Hollywood is still about getting one dollar more than the budget costs no matter how you get it and how sh***y your film is?

if someone records it and puts it online then I'll see it. I wouldn't want to be the one yelled at by them though...Imagine if they tag team it and take on some poor SOB? :csad:

What an unlucky fellow he would be. Cameron would probably have Bale beat the crap out of him. Or worse...Bale would force him to stare at Avatar set photos of Cameron looking at his watch. :csad:

:hehe:

The simple fact that you think that a 200 million dollar film makes a 40 million dollar prophet if it makes 240mil worldwide shows just how ignorant you are when it comes to this subject.

I mean the ignorance of this post is just so f**king unbelievely glaring. I'm honestly shocked that you have been on this forum longer than I have and still have no idea what-so-ever how the boxoffice works.

Almost:up:

Christian Bale auditioned for the role of Jack Dawson, but was turned down because James Cameron didn't want two British actors playing the lead roles of two Americans.

You apparently don't realize that the movie theaters that show the movies get a significant cut of movie grosses. You're probably looking at a third going to theater owners. And marketing costs aren't included in the production budget. TS probably has to gross $300 million WW to turn a profit.

There's a concept of "return on investment" that you might want to brush up on too. If you spend over $200 million to turn a $1 profit, the reward doesn't justify the risk.

I didn't say that... I said 120 million more combining DVD sales, international BO and merchandising... which just shows how ignorant you are when it comes to reading.

PS: I know that the studios take only a % of international BO...

Not 1$... but considering the producers here are two independent real estate guys... 40 million cuts it... very well...

You pulled that 40mil number out of your ass.

You don't know what a supposition is? It's when you suppose things... so yes... it was pulled from my ass... my point was to say... let's say it brings them 40 million profit... do you really think this thing is dead? Again... check your reading...

You guys should really wait... :facepalm

There's an international BO, DVD/Blu-Ray sales and merchandising profits still waiting for this thing...:facepalm

I love that avatar.

International box office will help and another three weeks in theatre .

I understood exactly what you wrote I just think that it is beyond stupid.

The Superman Returns fans said the same thing after that movie opened to disappointing numbers.

"Just wait, it has great word of mouth and will make 250mil in the states and 250mil overseas!" "Just wait it's going to pick up and end up outdoing Pirates 2."

How did that work out for them?

I said it in another thread and I'll say it in this one. OVERSEAS NUMBERS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING TO THE STUDIOS. They love the money but if it's not a flat out hit with american audiences, it's deemed a failure and there will not be a sequel. That is a fact, that's not americans thinking we are more important then we are.

Stupid? Let's wait and see... when these guys see the $$$ we'll see how stupid it is... and if they don't see it they'll sell it to someone that does want to make it... there is going to be a T5. You guys speak as if WB and Sony were in control...

I'm going to try to find the Chuck Roven article in the NY times speaking about this little fact and how studios see the DVD market as the gold mine right now instead of BO... as of today it's nearly impossible for a studio to lose money on a movie...

You're right about dvd sales being the gold mine, that's not what I'm talking about though. Domestic box office grosses mean a lot to the stockholders of these companies and they also almost always dictate whether or not there will be a sequel. Dvd sales can help if a movie studio is on the fence, but if there was a big negative response to the movie in theaters then it won't matter.
