The BO numbers say different. No matter how you slice it, this is a disappointing take. Doing a direct sequel anytime soon I don't see being at the top of their list. The numbers don't justify an investment on that scale.

McG should try to take T5 into low budget territory. T1 only cost 6 million dollars, dude. Sure, some of the effects are dated, but still. You can live with it. Because the film is too ****ing good.

So, McG. Try model work for everything you would have done CGI on for TS. Have the film tackle not just machines, but back-stabbing humans, possibly outselling their own kind to Skynet. Let the film speak to the fact that even when there's hope in the air with the human race, some people can not be turned back to the good side.

Dude, there won't be a T5.

There are still people on here who believe a sequel is coming?

Sigh.

Star Trek is actually above the movie again.

Sorry hopeful people but this movie is a bit of a disaster...it aint getting a sequel.

I won't say another Terminator movie will never be made but this flick aint getting a sequel.

Star Trek= Spectacular

Terminator Salvation = Craptacular

6 mil by 1980's numbers...with inflation, that is a lot more. And yes, T1 was made on a smaller budget and works, but T2 changed the dynamic of the series perception and added spectacle.

And a smaller budget Terminator film set in the future would be difficult to manage. Cause this future has MORE machines than any of the first 3 films. What are we going to do? Send them in time to the past again to keep the cost down? So much for a Future Wars series.

I'll personally wait until someone high up in the Hollywood food chain officially declares T5 dead. If MGM or WB don't want a share in distributing T5, I'm sure someone like Universal, Fox or Lionsgate would pick them up.

I mean, Hellboy underperformed (not bombed like TS), but it got a sequel 4 years later. Universal snagged the rights to future sequels to Hellboy, and Fox did the same for the Chronicles of Narnia (Prince Caspian underperformed badly, just like TS is now) after Disney refused to co-finance and distribute the third pic.

This movie will get a sequel. Maybe not soon, but it will.

The ip is independently owned. If they don't wanna do something with it, they can sell it off and get a payday. Hollywoods rebooting and remaking everything, a franchise like Terminator is too hot to pass up.
I've bolded the key point. This is an independent film so the normal rules for studio films do not apply. If the holders of the rights want to make a sequel, they can try to set one up. The may have a harder time getting a US distributor to put up a lot of money but with both T3 and T4, the majority of the funding came from overseas. This is one of those situations where the domestic box office is of lesser important.

There's a lot of fuss about the production costs but what about the advertising? Why does it cost $100m to sell a movie that cost $200m to make? Or $30m to sell a movie that cost $15m? I'd love to see comparative numbers for the P&A budgets of would-be blockbusters.

Why do people keep bringing up that it's an independent company as if most arguing about this don't understand that?

I still don't think that a sequel is coming but again, I could see a remake in the years to come.

how can skynet send HK's through time? Only living tissue can pass through the time traveling device

has this guy honestly ever seen T1 or T2?
i wouldnt take serious a guy who directed a future terminator movie and wnats know to do a timetravel movie.

is he like mental? you are in the future war so stay there. the only fans left want to see war action.

i also dont think a sequel is ccming.

but what suprises me is that some people are still writting MCG and sequel in the same post.
even if a sequel would happen i dont think MCG would be the director. its not like TS was to smart for people and thats why it bombed. :cwink:

so really MCG and terminator sequel...................NO

Agreed.

If a sequel came about I don't see McG directing and to tell you the truth I don't see Bale coming back either. So we'll have the 100th recast of John Connor in this shouldn't be franchise.

so what should they do....................leave it alone. stop making terminator movies.

because i was insulted with the ending of choppa's flying and connor talking about some faith or something.

The ending was beyond lazy. It was just some stupid voice over that insinuated that we would be getting 9 more movies.

one of the best movies IMO have the best endings. not always but a lot of times.
thats how lazy they were.

back to the BO. i am surpised that TS is more popular. i thought that terminator was outside the US popular because of Arnold.

No offense to the overseas audience because we here in the states watch ***** too but Terminator looks like the perfect overseas movie to me. Big loud and dumb. I didn't make the rules, the dumbest loudest movies seem to do gangbusters overseas. I'm guessing the purrty effects overuled the Arnold factor.

I said it before and I'll say it again it's a travesty how well Angels and Demons, Terminator Salvation and Wolverine have done overseas. Meanwhile Star Trek is going to be very lucky to make 125mil. I know thats a victory because the overseas audience don't even like Trek but it's still annoying. Hopefully the sequel's performance will rectify what has happened.

And this is coming from somebody who didn't uber love Trek but I know it's better than those flicks.

How so?

I just explained that people in the states see plenty of s**t too so I'm not letting anyone off the hook. I think thw whole world has pretty much equally poor taste in cinema.

I didn't know people were "only" allowed to down the filmgoers in America.:whatever:

Your "explanation" included a remark on how we love dumb and loud over story... yes, we're mindless idiots and you guys are all a bunch of highly gifted art critics... brutal...

We love movies like Paul Blart: MallCop and countless other dumb comedies that I won't even get into...Uh so no, we aren't into good artful movies either alot of the time.

Spider-Man 3 made more than TDK overseas despite the fact that TDK was the second highest grossing movie here so yeah... Pretty Special effects and big loud and dumb are the order of the day for the overseas audience even more so than it is here.

Thats not a dig, it's the truth. I have no idea why you take such offense to me saying that? I come down hard on American filmgoers too so this song ain't about just people overseas.

Seesh, I'm not calling ya'll mindless idiots at all because honestly cinema isn't that important. Stop taking it personally dude. I love you and every other cool person in the world.

Whatever... it's not the first time I read you saying something like that...

Thats because it's what I believe and I wrote something like that a couple of days ago, I can go look up the post if you want me too.

You have a right to take offense to my opinion but it's what the numbers are telling me. I follow the numbers.

I have no problems with people overseas at all. Humans are Humans, I don't see people as less than because they aren't living on my slab of land.

Someone start a poll: which ending is better? The one we got or the one that leaked / was changed..?

Big movies full of explosions or special effects do well overseas because
1) explosions have no language barrier
2) there is no equivalent local product because of the production costs

When people are looking for smaller, intelligent movies or comedies they are often better served by local films.

That said, the majority of comic book movies underperform overseas compared with other blockbusters.
