And the first Austin Powers (technically VHS but those sales are what prompted the sequels...)
it was explained.

this is not the first terminator movie. there was a movie in 2003 and it didnt brake all records. so they tryed again and it still didnt do enough.
its not like this is the first time this happened. some are talking about a second chance. TS was the second chance.

real talk it's like people are ignoring the stone cold facts here this franchise lost steam with the 3rd and this movie was even worse than the 3rd in how it performed box office wise and received by audiences over all. The next Terminator would not be a sequel to TS and it probably would take more than the 6 year gap we experienced between T3 and TS for us to ever see another one. When it does come out cause Halcyon or whoever they sell the rights too will certainly want to pimp this, it would more likely than not be a reboot or remake.

I'd rather a sequel than a remake any day....unless they pull a Star Trek and do it like a alternate timeline reboot/sequel

This is still a box office thread? This weekend is the crunch time for the franchise as it's the second weekend in most overseas markets. It also opens in Japan and the numbers are going to be big because they're including the $4.4m from last weekend's previews in this weekend's total.

I'm sure people here thought TS would.

Sorry but I think people were foolissh if they expecting T1 and T2 quality, no matter how much McG does, he is not James Cameron or even close, and never will be.

Not really. Most were optimistic but also had pretty realistic expectations. If anyone expected a movie on par with Cameron's films, they were setting themselves up for disappointment.

I said the very same thing last year:

Exactly, I was hopeful it wouldnt be a disaster, but I wasnt expecting anything near the first 2, I was hoping for better than T3 which I liked. In the end it was about on par.

Overseas box office is usually reported late on Sunday by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. I'm always interested when the rest of the world chooses to ignore how a film was received in the US.

I didn't know anything about McG nor did I even care. I just knew he had a bad rep and he made it sound like he wanted to redeem himself. All the elements seem to be there for a good film. McG himself kept talking about how he wanted to focus on structure and plot. Thats what made T1 and T2 good (as well as the action, which was definitely present in TS), so why should this one be any different? At least that was my thinking at the time.

Plus, everything we saw and heard about the movie before it came out - trailers, interviews, set reports, stills, you name it - made TS look awesome. This one hurt. :csad:

It's definitely gonna be the biggest Terminator film and hopefully one of the best films of the summer, it's just the matter of how much the stupid films opening against it will take away from it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good call. Someone get some lottery numbers from this guy...

This movie was expected to do well. It's not like he was way off base making those comments at the time.

It's still funny. And without Arnold I heard the exact opposite.

It did well in its first week, and is doing well here in the UK, it just depends on how bit its drop-off was this week.

It's numbers here and there still haven't touched even T3.

T3
Domestic: $150,371,112 34.7%
+ Foreign: $283,000,000 65.3%

= Worldwide: $433,371,112

Terminator:Salvation
Domestic: $110,521,000 52.7%
+ Foreign: $99,105,311 47.3%

= Worldwide: $209,626,311

And to be honest I don't know if this makes me happy or sad. The good news is they won't get the chance to ruin the Terminator franchise even more. The bad news is they can't redeem themselves.

McG won't redeem himself.

The franchise will continue, without WB/Halcyon/whoever.

But from the start, no matter what McG said, he ISNT James Cameron and doesnt have half the talent, just because something looks good in trailers doesnt mean it will be. How many bad movies have looked awesome from their trailers in the past? T1 and T2 are two of the best action/sci-fi movies ever, TS was never going to be anywere near as good.

Yes you are right, TS wont make another dime will it :whatever:. Its only just going into its 2nd weekend internationally so there is plenty of money to made there. Domestic it wont make as much as T3 granted.

Staying power proved important at the foreign box office as well, where "Terminator Salvation" was No. 1 for the second weekend in a row. The Halcyon Co.'s fourth entry in the science-fiction series, which is being distributed internationally by Sony, grossed $46.1 million. That includes very impressive launches in Japan and China, where it grossed $10.7 million and $9 million, respectively.

The $200-million movie is making up for a soft performance in the U.S. and Canada, where it has earned $113.8 million, with foreign grosses that already total $165.5 million.

So its held up well in its 2nd week internationally, as I thought it would, not that I think this'll mean we are getting a sequel or anything. Though I hope it does in the long run, its still a bit of a tall order though.

Also, does this have any more major markets it is yet to open in?

I assumed an excellent script had been written by Jonah Nolan that would elevate McG as a director, and set reports were so enthusiastic that I picked up on the buzz.
