the time when this movie happens is just wrong, bad, dumb.

i think people would be more interested in watching a terminator movie 5 or 8 months after judgment day. basicly people desperate withthout any idea what is happening and any technology.

or 2029 with future weapons and T-800 war scenes.

so IMO 2018 the worst time . :csad:
Good thinking.

It could be a animatronic model built by the Stan Winton guys but it moves far fluid.
:cwink:
i will admit that i am wrong but hes movement is not possible with animatronics IMO. but still it looked amazing. ILM has nailed hard surface rendering and rigging with TF,IM so they dont have a problem making this realistic.

matrix_ghost i forgot about this podcast. here they talk about this .

I assumed an excellent script had been written by Jonah Nolan that would elevate McG as a director, and set reports were so enthusiastic that I picked up on the buzz.

But we knew from the start Nolan just touched up the script, he didnt write the whole thing, not to mention a bad director can mess up a good script.

Of course it matters that McG wasn't as talented as Cameron, as long as the script was good. That's like saying any director in Hollywood can craft a film as good as Spielberg, as long as he has a great script. It doesn't work that way.

Agreed.

I said it wouldn't matter as much. And it wouldn't. It would still matter, but if the script is absolutely fantastic the director would have to be pretty terrible to mess that up. There are mediocre directors out there that have managed to make one or two stand out movies simply because the scripts were good (just like there are good directors who made bad movies because the scripts were bad). And McG's directing in terms of look and feel was appropriate enough. I had a blast watching it, it's just if you stop to actually think about whats going on you start to realize how mediocre it is.

I think it matters a lot, a bad director can make a crappy movie out of a good script, happens all the time. I dont think McG did THAT bad with this movie, but certain things definately could and should have been done better.

I totally agree. They basically made a prequel to the time period everyone associates with the Terminator future war but set it too far ahead to be interesting by itself. I would have loved to see John actually starting out and learn why he is the savior. But the problem is the direction they originally took with the story. They wanted it to be set at a time where Kyle Reese can be a main character and before John Connor really becomes a big deal so it's clear that it was a robot impostor that established his legacy. And thats all because they set out to make this a Marcus and Kyle movie.

I think it matters a lot, a bad director can make a crappy movie out of a good script, happens all the time.

Yeah, but like I said the film LOOKED really, really good too. When I saw the trailers, I didn't have that much that much doubt in McG's directing. The only thing I was worried about was that the film would be substanceless. That's what pissed me off the most about McG since my initial doubts were about the character and story, but McG lied and actually made me get excited for this film.

Directors are always promoting their own movies, what made you believe McG when its his job to promote the movie?

True.

It's annoying when it's not as good as you want it to be but it is the director's job to promote his film as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Your right about directors always promoting their movies. That is their job. However i guess everyone gets pissed when movies are oversold ; where directorsstart to (over)hype their movies to such an extent that you start to belive that the movie might be realy really good and instead it's just an mediocre/okay movie.

Not saying that McG did that because IMO McG delivered

I think McG really did do that and thats not shocking, nor am I mad at him for doing it. He is a business man as well as a director. He had a product to sale and he sold the hell out of it.

Good for him.

It's too bad that the movie was only a good follow up to T3 and not T2.

its hes job to promtoe the movie but its a big gamble to over hype it. its a big risk. if the movie brakes all records he won. what if he doesnt( like TS)?

MCG will get work. but if he gets a franschise with a big fanbase it wont end nice. its hes own fault.

Well, saying I expected TS to be on par with T1 or T2 is rather misleading. I know McG isn't as good a director as Cameron but this was going to be a completely different kind of movie. T1 and T2 were chase movies, but TS was going to be a war movie. Comparing the three would be a waste of time. I definitely thought TS would at least be a good movie with excellent action and some touching character moments, like the Cameron films.

i think it was never said that Nolan wrotte a script. i think it was said from the beginning that Nolan was there for rewrittes to make Connors role bigger.

McG boasted about Nolan's involvement every chance he got. He also claimed that Bale had refused to sign on until the script was good enough to be preformed on stage, a claim that Bale has since denied.

So basically, you bought into the hype and the movie failed to meet the high expectations, that you set for it. Is that it?

‘Terminator Salvation’ Defeats ‘Star Trek’ Internationally
Terminator Salvation continued to do wonders for Sony over the weekend by staying on top of the international box office with an estimated $46.1 million dollar haul. The film stole the no.1 spot in 30 different countries.

The fourth Terminator film is now heading towards cracking the $300M mark having raked in $165.5 million on the international circuit and $113M on the US circuit.

Although Star Trek is currently the highest grossing movie of 2009 as a result of a dominating US box office performance, Terminator Salvation has now well and truly eclipsed it on the international circuit with Star Trek’s international tally beginning to level out at $119M.

Further, Star Trek has now exhausted its release territories whilst Terminator Salvation has yet to be released in Mexico, one of the top 10 international markets. Although Star Trek’s total haul is still a way off (currently around $350M), the possibility remains that Terminator Salvation could eclipse Star Trek’s overall gross sometime in August (after its Mexican release on July 31).

there is even a chance that the budget will be bigger if they make a lot of money international. plus lets not forget about blu-ray.

sarcasm out

Right. It was only recently that we found out Nolan was only on for rewrites to make Bale's role larger.

Eh, hype is all we have to go by before the movie comes out. It happens.

It always had a huge chance of outgrossing Trek overseas and it did so. I see no surprise in those numbers. The only thing that would surprise me is if TS outdid T2's 315mil internationally.

The state side numbers have killed this movie's sequel chances. As Jamie keeps pointing out it's not just about Salvation's numbers, T3 underperformed too.

There is a patteren of underperformance now and those expected international numbers don't change that.

i hope there is no sequel because after 15 years they really showed us that tehy dont want to make a terminator future war movie. they dont want a movie where its about the war between the machines and humans.

i dont care anymore about one terminator in teh story.

It is quite ridiculous that they made the future war story that the fans were waiting for and it didn't feature and actual freakin war.

They had 200 freakin million dollars and still didn't give us a lasered gun future war with Robots???
