Comics The '07 X-Event: Endangered Species, Messiah Complex, & Disassembled

The Phoenix thing isn't necessarily bad. The idea itself, I mean.

The execution tends to be, though.

She basically suffers from "Superman syndrome," which is all the reasons we've said, heh. If a Marvel writer could figure out how to bring her back without destroying all the Phoenix stuff, but without making her super-omnipotent and blah blah blah, it'd be the best avenue.

What happened to the mid-to-late 90s, like around Onslaught? Wasn't she calling herself Phoenix then? I remember her being an Ace-class telepath/telekinetic without being overboard. Bring THAT back.

^The Phoenix thang is AWESOME. Problem is it is overplayed. It becomes a problem when the writers do not create newer ideas....they just use the old stuff until it looses all the spark it used to have.

Jean being THE Phoenix is overexagerated. The only time she's actually had the Phoenix Force powers was during the original story and during New X-men. She went 15 YEARS as a viable character without them and it was only Morrison that brought them back but people act like its something she always goes back and has been with her her for the majortiy of her run

Is that from the Cable/Deadpool issue? Dont get that so thanks for the info. So you think Cable is a gonner? It just seems so.....simple to get rid of him like that. I mean he went toe to toe with Apocalyse...and Gambit and Sunfire kill him?!? I just dont buy it.

And for the record....I want Jean Grey-Summers back!!!!

Yeah, it's from the C&D issue. And for all intents and purposes, Cable is dead right now. Certainly doesn't stop him from returning later though, but I doubt we'll be seeing him again any time soon.

That's because it's one of the major defining factors of her character.

I say when she comes back (because we know she will) let the Phoenix Force give up on the Grey family and disappear into space forever...

I could see the Phoenix Force be an interesting factor in some cosmic event, such as Annihilation... but only if it's Jeanless.

The Phoenix aspect yes, but the actual Phoenix Force not necesarily. During those 15 years, the phoenix aspect was still very much a part of Jean. It helped explain why she was back and she was fused with its memories after Inferno. She later on took on the codename, had a pink phoenix power signature, wore the costume, created a variant of the costume, etc... all without actually having the Phoenix Force. I loved Jean like that. She is tied to phoenix and I dont think it should be completley wiped out entirely as that would deny a big part of her history but she doesnt need that cosmic entity inside her again. She can be Phoenix with being THE Phoenix like she was written in New X-men

But then we'd get some wannabe 'Phoenix work' storyline in about 10 seconds flat anyway. Meh.

Wow, you are serious arent you? That STINKS! I mean I am not the biggest Cable fan around but I dont want to end it like THAT, you know?

Thats the Jean I miss!! I can just fascinate over the issues I have her her doing damage with Ororo, Peter, and Bishop (at the current arc).

Yeah but she IS Phoenix and Phoenix is HER.

^Yeah, but just let Jean come back for a year or two before they bring the Phoenix back.....

Phoenix is only a part of Jean. She has a life and personality outside of the cosmic bird. She doesnt need it to be a viable character

Yeah but I doubt thats gonna happen, but thats my opinion. I guess theirs a chance that they can bring her back, EXPLAIN why she doesn't have the Phoenix for some amount of time, without bringing her back in some way.

True...but that would make to much sense right? :cwink: So that not gonna happen. IMO

Ummm.. while I'm not so big on the discussion of Jean and what's going to happen with her coming back, I thought I'd try to discuss some of this..

For starters, wasn't there something about marvel not wanting to use Jean and Rachel at the same time? And since they're BOTH bodies for the phoenix in some way, ummm... wouldn't it be a little tough for the phoenix to tear itself in 2? Might just leave a way for jean to be around minus the phoenix controlling everything for a while.

theres nothing official at Marvel about Jean and Rachel. They just have never existed on an X-men book at the same time. Rachel became an X-man when Jean was dead and left to go to Excalibur by the time she came back. She was eventually written out and only became an X-man again when Jean was killed off. Now that Rachel is once again gone, people have been speculating that this could be bc Jean is returning

^I still feel bitter about them just dumping Rachel off like that....

I guess it's because they are too similar, it would be like writing two Jeans or two Rachels at the same time, but I would like to see at least a scene of the mother-daughter moment.

As Jean absorbs Rachel...or Rachel absorbs Jean's Phoenix Force...then flies into the sun, carrying Kitty

Booooooo......:woot: Have the PF carry Emma or the Beast....THAT would be cool.....
