You ****ing know what, I don’t care if it’s a year off. Give The Iron Claw some nominations or I’m gonna smuggle Will Smith in to start slapping people again. :o

Jesus Christ, a 17 minute standing ovation for this Almodovar thing? SEVENTEEN MINUTES.

That’s too much.

Pretty solid pod about how some movies with award buzz choose what major film festival they go to.

That surprises me considering they just picked up Queer last week. So now they've got The Brutalist, Babygirl, Queer and Sing Sing. That's a lot of campaigning.

I guess they saw the reactions to Queer and realized it likely wasn't going to be a big player for them. And considering how limited Sing Sing's theatrical release was (and in July, no less), it almost seems like that's not A24's priority either.

Best Actor is looking somewhat thin this year, so maybe they can pull it off, but three nominees from A24 seems extremely unlikely. Either Craig or Domingo is in trouble.

They've blown up a lot in the past few years and gained some serious clout in a relatively short amount of time. If there's little competition from the major studios this year I don't see why A24 can't dominate in the major categories.

The rollout for Sing Sing has been so incredibly frustrating for me. Started the season as one of the most anticipated releases and they've totally dropped the ball.

That said, I definitely think they can manage to get 3 Actors in, especially if The Brutalist turns out to be a major player and carry Brody as part of the package deal.

After seeing His Three Daughters (out in select theaters before hitting Netflix), I believe and hope that Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen, and Natasha Lyonne's names are in contention for some type of recognition. Hard to pick a standout- though, gun to my head, it'd probably be Carrie Coon- but all three gave very strong performances.

Weirdly, I think this is the first thing of note that I've seen Lyonne in outside of her small roles in projects like Scary Movie 2 or Sleeping with Other People- both of which I didn't even remember she was in until glancing Wikipedia.

She's not wrong, but I have to wonder: what other performances from Black women in leading roles- not supporting- really rose to the level of Best Actress-worthy? Like genuinely, I can only think of those who gave performances that would garner the Best Supporting win, but leading? None really come to mind immediately for me.

There's some that never even got to the Oscars race but got recognition like Taylour Paige for Zola, Regina Hall for Support the Girls, Taylor Russell for Bones and All, and Adepero Oduye for Pariah.

But of the ones that did get nominated since Halle Berry, I think only Quvenzhané Wallis, Ruth Negga, & Viola Davis had a shot at getting it when they were nominated.

There are SO many performances by black women that were easily worthy of an Oscar. Let's be real, Gabourey Sidibe should've won over Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis should've won over Frances McDormand.

And to piggyback of Kane's mentions - Adepero Oduye not being nominated for Pariah is still such an egregious snub.

I wouldn't have ranked them above Yeoh and Blanchett, but just last year it was a huge deal when Davis and Deadwyler both missed out on noms.

Seeing “studios appalled by cash grab” made me think I was reading an Onion headline for a minute there.

Honestly a good decision, this year is already super crowded.

I hope Will & Harper makes it into Best Documentary. That was so sweet.

I'll be honest, I'm a little worried about Flanagan's chances with the move. Adapted Screenplay is kind of wide open this year, and there are a lot of big adaptations coming down the pipe - Hedda, Hamnet, Bugonia, PTA's new movie (if it is indeed based on Vineland) just off the top of my head
