I really need to work on my Letterboxd. I started one like 2 years ago or something and completely forgot about it and haven't touched it lol

I'm three away from hitting 2,000 films logged on Letterboxd. I think I know what they're going to be. Nickel Boys followed by a Gene Hackman double feature: The Conversation and The French Connection.

After that Freidkin joint, throw on To Live in DIe in LA if you haven't seen it. Crazy ass synth score with the lushest visuals from Robert Muller. Plot is bananas and roundabout, really ebbs and flows, but its still super gripping.

And speaking of De Palma, has anyone else seen Femme Fatale? Holy hell.

I love De Palma.

With the exception of Carrie and Scarface, it was mostly him doing his own sexy-violent version of Hitchcock movies. A remake within a remake type of thing. I also highly recommend his masterpiece ‘’Blow Out’’, tis’ the film in which Tarantino became a Travolta fan. One of the best flicks of all time.

I mean....yeah a vast majority of current movies may be forgotten in 50 years, but Megalopolis is also not going to be remembered either

True, but I also read it as him referencing his own Apocalypse Now and Godfather Flicks. Kinda a dig back at them critics who will no doubt be forgotten, but his name and his masterpieces will live long after he is gone and everyone on this forum. Lawd./

For sure, Coppola's legacy in film is full and well safe. Megalopolis just won't be one of the movies he made anyone talks about

I have only a handful of nominees yet to watch. Tomorrow, an early screening of The Brutalist on Dolby and Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat at home after. On Sunday I'm showing Flow and Nickel Boys before my Oscar party, and that's that. I have a couple of shorts to watch too, but those won't take too much time. Nickel Boys is streaming on Prime over here as of Thursday. Would've loved to see that in a theater, but no such luck.
Liked Coup d’Etat.

And unsurprisingly, just like his Letterboxd top four it's all stuff I've never heard of. Would it kill him to put a Spielberg or Scorsese movie in the mix or was he watching art house films since he was a baby? :o
I will say almost half of the people who go in the Criterion closet have picked the Dekalog and it's the only time I've heard about that movie.

I'll probably hit 4,500 films logged by the time this year ends.

Also, I need to think of a theme for March's four favorites.

Not one of the anonymous Oscar voters saying they hated The Substance, Cynthia Erivo is too old for Elphaba and Karla Sofia Gascon should win Best Actress… 🤮

Which is a dumb argument because everyone playing a Shiz student in it was technically too old for their roles except for Nessa. But hey, at least they don't look as old as the "high schoolers" in Grease. :o

Everyone playing a student in that movie is old enough that I think the CW would blush having them play new college kids but also like... Who cares? Whatever. They did good. I can't muster up any modicum of criticism over the fact they're closer to 40 than new college kid age.

Every year, these people reveal themselves to be The Worst. Oh how I'd love for the "anonymous" veil to be spontaneously lifted one of these days.

Especially this one. :o

"7. “Dune: Part Two” – I don’t like those movies. I just don’t enjoy movies that are just killing and surviving."
"3. “Emilia Pérez” – I thought I was going to like “Emilia Pérez” more…I saw clips that showcased the sound specifically before I ever saw the movie, and I thought, “Wow, this looks innovative,” but then I saw it, and I was impressed with how daring they were to make a musical about cartels and a transgender woman…in Spanish when the director is French, and I thought Zoe was great, but it left me with kind of a lousy feeling afterward. Not so much that I put it in the lower half though. I don’t know; I only really loved “Wicked” and “Anora” this year."

It also helps that they can all mostly pass for younger too, unlike the actors in Grease who ate cigarettes and rubbed whiskey on their faces to make them age like prunes, but hey it was the '70s. :o

As someone born in the late 90s, I can only take films as historical documents and determine the fact the air in the 70s was about 40% cigarette smoke caused everyone to look like they should only be within a hundred feet of a school to drop off their kid.

Oh for sure. He's great. Blow Out is probably my favorite from him. Body Double and Sisters are also insane.
