I already watched Dune 2/Substance last year.

I would watch Wicked/Conclave/Brutalist/Anora when I find the time.

10 movies are just too much. I wish they would narrow it down to five or six. Same with other awards shows.

Expanding the Best Picture nominees seemed like a good idea at the time but realistically it might never had happened if they had just nominated The Dark Knight over The Reader like they should have. Since then there have been so many undeserving nominees that it almost makes a Best Picture nomination seem less special. Every year there's usually one BP nominee that makes you wonder "How'd that get in there?" This year it was Emilia Perez, last year it was Maestro, the year before that it was Elvis, the year before that it was Don't Look Up, etc. etc. If they decreased it back down to 5 or maybe even 6 to have a bonus nomination in there, it would certainly feel more competitive again.

Though I didn't see the ceremony, I will admit that Adrien Brody shushing the 'Play you off' music during his speech did make me chuckle. Yes, I would have preferred that Chalamet won, but it reminded me of when Olivia Colman during her speech was told on screen to wrap it up and she blew a raspberry instead, though that didn't seem as...I don't want to say 'self-righteous' on Brody's part, but something akin to that.

Yeah, ten movies is too many. It dilutes the special nature of the nomination. It shouldn't be more than seven.

I would do 6 noms across the board. It would solve a lot of snubs.

There should be two nominees and whoever doesn’t win never works again.

No, no, no. That was— THAT WAS A JOKE!

Except, The Reader wasn’t undeserving.
And if TDK had been nominated, it wouldn’t have won.

Uh, why are we complaining about Elvis? The others you mentioned I get, but what was wrong with Elvis?

Honestly, they should just go back to 5 Best Picture nominees.

That’s fine. Less artsy/Cannes crap.

Dude, most of this stuff are movies general audiences aren’t going to remember. Once in a while we get a few that stick in people’s memories like The Shape of Water, Parasite, Oppenheimer, and EEAAO, but most of the stuff the Academy nominates or gives wins to lately are stuff that feels like they were made to fill spots at the Oscars or other shows.

Also, I’d say less complaining about Elvis and more scorn toward La La Land. My parents enjoy musicals and they HATED La La Land (though they loved Greatest Showman a lot more). Plus that movie seems to have cursed that director’s career.

The Reader was more praised for Kate Winslet's performance than anything. Of course The Dark Knight wouldn't have won but no one back then thought The Reader deserved a Best Picture nomination over it. That was quite literally the catalyst for them expanding the category.

Yes. But you could say that potentially about ANY movie nominated. There a LOT of fans out there who believe That their Fan Favorite Film is the best thing, EVER!

It wasn't just fanboy outrage, The Dark Knight was widely praised by critics and it also made it on the Best Films of 2008 lists from The Hollywood Reporter to the American Film Institute. The Dark Knight made an impact on Hollywood, The Reader was just another run of the mill Oscar bait drama.

We need to do away with the Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press all together. They’ve proven to be nothing but horrible the past decade or so.

The Golden Globes crack me up. Just when they looked like they rehabilitated and got their act together, they got a dumpster fire host throwing his writers under the bus like Jo Koy and followed that up a year later with putting their chips on a dumpster fire movie like Emilia Perez.
