Transformers doesn't really need much of a story. How deep do people expect it to be? These are films based offf of TOYS fighting other ROBOTS. All that was back then was giant robots beating the crap out of eachother. That's exactly what we got. Sometimes you can leave your brain behind for movies. Bay does that. That's no problem. He just likes making pictures where you can just enjoy them nothing wrong with that.
But seriously, what did you expect out of it? Complexity, a deepness of plot and character? Think back to the show of the 80's or 90's. What was that about? Oh yes, giant robots beating the crap out of eachother.
I think Transformers didn't need a wonderful script to begin with. However, I do think the script itself needed some trimming (or editing). The scene at Shia's house lasted for TOO LONG.
