Wait, this is animated? Isaac would've been a perfect live-action Gomez .

Yes stop-motion based on the original Addams illustrations.

Just do live action and stop wasting his looks :P

I'm guessing that this will use the style of the original comics/cartoon:

If not, I can see them using Isaac's likeness for Gomez. Yeah, it seems a waste to use him for an animated movie, but on the other hand, there really isn't much to improve upon from the 90's Addams Family movies as far as live action goes.

CG will allow them to capture the original cartoon's looks moreso probably. Instead of having to go with makeup and costumes and what not. And not have to build a set, actual mansion, etc.

Well I imagine part of the fun/catharsis for the creators of stop-motion is it would have involved "real" makeup[paint], costumes, building sets, lighting ...and what not". Just all in miniature.
A "world" with all the flaws, irregularities, and blemishes that come naturally, and might thematically lend itself to a 3D rendering of Addam's original art. t:

CG tends to have to add that artificially, and if not done right, can leave a pristine, sterile look.
On the other-hand, with CG they could more easily capture authentic expressions off Oscar Isaac (if they get him) and other performers, and blend them with the caricature faces.
Which gives for a more realistic performance.

Not sure what their take on it will be (if they switch to full CG?), and I haven't seen Sausage Party to judge, but I hope they don't substitute Addam's macabre yet romantic, gothic dark humor, for fart jokes and raunchy humor.

Bellow is fan made, based more on the TV versions, but I imagine the Sausage Party directors will be doing something more generic like this, but closer to the original Addam's cartoons.

MGM has set the voice cast for its Oct. 11, 2019 animated take on The Addams Family including Oscar winners Charlize Theron (Morticia), Allison Janney (arch nemesis Margaux Needler), two-time Oscar nominee Bette Midler (Grandmama), Chloë Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Finn Wolfhard (Pugsley), and Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester).

As previously announced, Oscar Isaac will play Gomez. Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan are co-helming this brand new take on Charles Addams’ classic New Yorker cartoon series.

Matt Lieberman wrote the script, which follows the kooky Addams family as they face-off against a crafty reality-TV host voiced by Janney while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style.

Vernon said in a statement, “Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation.”

“Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons. Nah, they were actually prettied up in the 60s series, the movie and the 90s cartoon. In the original comics and in that new image they look pretty grotesque.

Looks ok. Still terrified were instead getting lewd humor fart jokes with this director.

Also visually would have preferred closer to this, or somewhere between it and Addam's cartoons.

Or better the stars had aligned for this cast and director for the goth live action version
