Wow, seems like JL has really scared them of deleted scenes and Extended Cuts, it's possible that next few DC movies will get neither.

good! i rather this way, even though i loved the BVS extended cut but whatever, GL extra scenes were tragic af

I dont see why deleted scenes or an extended cut would scare them. I’m pretty sure giving Bvs an extended cut was what made it a top blu ray seller that year.

With that said, I’m perfectly satisfied with AQ the way it is.

'Aquaman' Spinoff 'The Trench' in the Works (Exclusive)

With Aquaman being a billion-dollar hit, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. wants more waterworks from its DC Comics hero.

But while any discussions of a direct sequel have not engaged on any sort of serious level by the studio, director James Wan or star Jason Momoa, with all the players seemingly intent on taking a breather and their time, there is talk of a spinoff.

Warners has hired newbie scribes Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to pen a horror-tinged script centered on the Trench, the deadly amphibious creatures seen attacking the hero and his love, Mera, in Aquaman.

Wan and Peter Safran will produce the project, titled The Trench, which would be much more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.

The Trench creatures are rather recent arrivals to the Aquaman lore, having been introduced in the comics only in 2011 when DC did a revamp of its entire publishing line. They are revealed to be part of the kingdom of Atlantis but when it sunk, inhabitants who were cut off from other survivors and evolved into ravenous monsters.

Details of the take are being kept submerged but it will be set in the kingdom of the Trench and will not feature the main cast of Aquaman.

Gardner and Fitzgerald were assistants at Bad Robot, JJ Abrams’ production shingle, during the filmmaker’sSuper 8 period. They previously wrote a submarine thriller titled The Volos.

I mean, you could do a modestly budgeted horror flick, and I get WB wanting to strike while the iron is...well, I guess wet in this instance, but this would no doubt irk those wanting to see other DC properties get their time to shine. But then, as the article says, serious discussions have not engaged on a serious level just yet. Still, we'll see.

I don't mind spinoffs but this feels like a reactive move by WB. I was hoping that the lesson they learned from AQM is that people want to see fun films. And then they would gain confidence in their characters and we'd see the JL characters all get solos and move from there.

But it seems, the lesson WB got was that the GA wants to see more of AQM world and thus WB are looking at branching out via the underwater instead of moving forward with the DCEU. They don't have the time & money to make films for JL characters if they are spending time & money on all the side tracking. And the actors we have aren't getting any younger

I doubt it’ll ever materialize. Someone mentioned a similar situation when SS did well and then a bunch of spin offs were announced. That went nowhere and this won’t either, especially with none of the cast returning.

Not surprising in the least. It makes perfect sense. You've got a horror director/producer, and an underwater sci-fi/horror concept that provides a different angle on the underwater mythology.

Who cares if no one asked for it. It has the potential to succeed. It's a cool storyline, with some potentially great horror visuals. It's just a concept in development.

I get that people would rather see DC movies based on (insert character here) but I doubt a moderately budgeted Trench horror movie is going to prevent them from making big budget movies like The Flash, Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, etc when they're ready for production.

Didn’t it say Mera would be involved? Wouldnt be mad if Heard didn’t return honestly.

Makes sense from a horror perspective since that’s Wan’s background. Just have it be about a boat of humans who get stuck down there similar to the Cave.

Kind of strange news. Like when you hear about a TV show/movie using a familiar setting but without the main character/s. Like 'Krypton'. Or an "Alien v Predator'. So it's an offshoot movie where you don't know what's going on with the familiar main characters. So it's kind of a DC Comics film, but not really. It could be fun though. WB going off on a tangent after a huge success, kind of safe, when there are other DC movies fans are waiting for.

I didn’t see that. I thought it said nobody was returning. Either way, I’m not interested. Give me Aquaman 2

Damn, so The Trench WILL feature Aquaman and Mera? Count me in. It's time to introduce Kaldur, Tula, and Garth as well.

I think the writer meant the beast that attacked Arthur and Mera will have his own pic
