The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

The discourse around this movie is weird and exhausting. I'm here for Keaton's final turn in the Bat-suit and nothing else. Reviews and box office won't matter a bit.

Frankly, I've switched off from the superhero genre in general due to the toxic fandoms and tribal online antics.

After this, I'll focus on Reeves/Pattinson and that's pretty much it.

One could disregard Riddler's plot, maybe the gritty aspects, the length... (I would never)

But, when it comes down to it... no one can deny looking at the effort put into every single frame by Matt.

The Batman on the surface is a Rothko, and the most recent efforts of Ant-Man, Thor, and The Flash just look like a kid's drawing.

Jeez Louise. This is almost like WW84 level whiplash in terms of initial reviews and second wave. This new wave is brutal. Its RT score dropped 4 points today. Polar opposite reactions im seeing across the board.

I'm getting the sense that a lot of critics are simply done and exhausted with superhero movies. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are just giving bad reviews out of spite for the genre.

I've been spoiled by all the big clips online but I don't mind. I'm ready to finally see this.

Tread carefully on YouTube. I was searching for Cobra Kai clips and the algorithm just decided to throw a bootleg Flash clip in there with a spoiler in the title :annoyed:.

That’s my main draw as well, but I want the whole movie to be good also. Not just the scenes with him on screen.

One thing I actually 100% agree with James Gunn on: people (including critics) aren’t sick of superhero movies; they’re sick of mediocre superhero movies. They’re still kind to them when they’re actually good. See Across the Spider-verse or The Batman or GotG3 for recent examples.

Or maybe they just didn't like the movie?

Some of the excerpts sound harsher than they should be, that's why I think *some* of the critics just can't deal with reviewing superhero films anymore. Look, I'm not saying that's how it actually is but what I feel about it when I read critics, not just for this film. A few quotes seem to scream "please I don't want to review superhero movies anymore".
Of course there's gonna be good films in between (thank God) but the amount of mediocre ones that have been in the last few years is just a bit too much and I believe it shows.

He basically said what some of us were saying a couple weeks ago. The fatigue is not in genre, it's in spectacle. There is nothing compelling about a lot of these films (not just cbms but blockbusters in general as he and we pointed out) and that is boring.

If a movie serves a purpose and tells a good story people will go see it. If not, they won't.

Do I think some people have agendas...of course. But I think the recent slate of non stop blockbusters has shown that people will be discerning when everything looks and feels the same. Back when blockbusters weren't a twice a month occurrence (remember when sometimes it was 1 or 2 a summer?!?) sure it was easy to justify but now...I just think people aren't as jazzed as before because it's constant. When everything is at level 10 then level 10 becomes worthless.

I guess I was ahead of the curve. I never go to a movie unless I feel a connection. (or someone asks me to go because they have a connection) My money and time are important I'm not going to waste them on "Generic Action Flick #12" just because I saw the previous 11. It's why when I like a movie it excites me and when I don't it annoys me.

I do think that for SURE the bar is higher in terms of quality standards then ever because there are so many of these types of movies, not just cbms but big budget blockbusters in general.

Like, if you look at the latest Transformers movie’s reviews, the consensus is so clearly one of fatigue and critics being tired of cgi spectacle without dramatic weight to it. The actual spectacle in that movie is technically well done but we’ve seen this over and over and over again that its now becoming exhausting. Rise of the Beasts might've gotten high marks 10 years ago but today its just not enough.

It was a mistake for the studio to hype this up like crazy and I’m not sure why they did it. I’m guessing the rumors of the 300 million budget are true and they were just doing everything they could to try and get people in the theater make some of that money back

My first movie in a theater was Batman Returns… back in 1992. I was 3 years old, and cemented my love for Batman. Yes, I love Bale… yes I think Pattinson is the THE definition of Batman for me.

But, Keaton will always be ‘my Batman’ and honestly can’t believe I’m seeing him in a new film playing Batman, again. No matter what my frustrations and reservations are about this Flash film.

It’s also crazy how good everything still looks on Krypton in MOS…

They had to hype it up...it's their summer blockbuster.

BTW that was the first time I saw the tomato meter I hadn't even though to look.

Yeah I mean its the studio's job to hype the movie up. Marketing is where they failed the last batch of DCEU movies (Shazam, Black Adam, TSS) so they needed to really give this thing everything they had. Hey, they tried man.No one can say they didnt give this thing a fair shake at success.

It was an alright movie. It was entertaining.
But saying this is "the best CBM ever" is laughable. Not even the best DC movie. Not even the best CBM released this month.

Such a shame that, even if it wasn't bad in the slightest, this was the first Flash movie ever.
I would've preferred a true solo movie, and then having Flashpoint as a sequel.

RIP Snyderverse. You had a run.

Marketing is very important, but it doesn't help much when there is no organic demand. I think that has been the main issue with WB with regards to DC films ,in this case the demand for a return of Keaton.

But I do think there is at least some fatigue too, GOTG vol.3 opened pretty modestly and then even with red hot word of mouth still won't match vol 2.
