The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Why? Most of the opinions of the film havent changed it just isnt getting enough people to want to come see it. It can still be a good film and not make booku bucks happens all the time.

Not much of the hype said the film would make a bazillion dollars (that was just some people around here) it was just that the people who saw it liked the movie and for the most part that hasnt changed.
Tbf, there WAS a lot of "it'll hit a billion" or "what if it hits a billion" talk at the top of the summer, which has not-surprisingly died out in the last couple weeks. But I don't think any reputable sources were ever making any such predictions, just fans.

Well...I mean...I cannot even fathom that as a legit opinion and I friggin loved this film!

I never put stock in fanboys opinions. They live in a bubble that is impenetrable.

I mean... I don't think I'm saying anything wrong here in that the early reactions to this movie might have been just a tad hyperbolic which is always the case for every other movie?

I don't know, there was this strong push of this movie being omg one of the greatest superhero films of all time you guyz and as someone who liked the first trailer, I never got that vibe from the marketing and was always put off by these comments, especially coming from folks who I had never heard of in my entire life. But I could be proven wrong, who knows. Just keep in mind that most of the time, early reactions don't reflect the opinions of critics, and it's good to keep expectations tempered.

I'm here for both Michaels, so as long as their screentime is satisfying and fulfilling, then that's a big positive I can give to this movie.

Yeah Zaslav said it was the best comic book movie he’s ever seen. They had freaking Stephen King tweeting about it and how good it was.

Don't forget Tom Cruise supposedly calling the Muschiettis to congratulate them on making such a fantastic movie.

Even I had to chuckle at the Stephen King one. This is the same guy who infamously and openly derided Kubrick's take on The Shining and then felt it was so egregious he took it upon himself to re-do it as a laughably abysmal TV mini series in the 90's that he felt was much more faithful to his book. :funny: So, Stephen King's endorsement on any movie would be questionable, but his name carries weight, i'll give them that.

I laughed at the Stephen king endorsement haha. Only because it's so random and out of nowhere.
As odd as it may sound King endorsements have worked out well for me, mostly. We clearly have the same taste in books and movies. If he liked it, I probably will too.

The King endorsement really isn't as left-field as peeps make out. Sure people associate him with horror, but he's friends with Andy Muschietti who previously directed It Chapters 1 & 2. It's no surprise that he'd be invited to a screening.

True. I mean I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like this regardless based on reviewers I trust.

I don't doubt Zaslav since I doubt he's seen a lot but King tweeting about how good it is shouldn't be a shocker because Andy directed the IT movies and he cameo'd in it.

And? Leaving aside that of course the president of WBD will hype up the film as well the head of DC Studios) the fact that Stephen King said he liked it doesn't really mean anything except he liked it. I guess I don't see the relevance to how the underperforming box office proves that inaccurate.

For what it's worth, I've just returned from my local cinema where there was a preview of The Flash.
I'd say things were encouraging because I don't live in a big city, but when I got there, 15 minutes before the screening, the board in the lobby said the theater for the movie was half full. And there were still people in line who, I guess, were there for that too.
Because they certainly didn't show up for Blade Runner, since there were only five of us for that film. Excellent conditions for rediscovering that classic by the way, almost a private screening! :funny:

I just can't call the box office for this one. I really though it would crack $100 million on opening weekend, but I guess that's not happening.

There seems to be a lot of buzz online, and videos of huge queues on preview nights, but I guess it just hasn't translated to general audience interest.

(This totally has nothing to do with how his good friend Christopher McQuarrie allegedly wants to do a superhero movie I totally swear and I promise you gotta believe me bro)

I’m willing to take 90 million as a “win” at this point, but damn 70 is harsh. Anything can happen though, it could have strong international legs that could carry it and this sounds like the kind of movie international audiences would dig.

It makes me wonder though, how low this movie would be tracking if it didnt have Keaton as a selling point, if it was just a straightforward Flash movie.

Why would anyone want to do a superhero movie these days... They all feel dime a dozen. It's rare for a director to actually find his voice while making them and studios churning them out relentlessly means they have lost their sparkle in a major way.

McQuarrie actually partnered with Cavill to try and pitch Man of Steel 2 and a Green Lantern movie to WB back in 2019. He definitely has a much more renowned interest in doing superhero stuff than most other directors.

Then you got his best bud Tom Cruise trying to brown nose WB over The Flash, knowing full well Gunn's rebooting everything after this?

Dots aren't really that hard to connect, imo

Oh, any Wow factor this movie (hopefully) has is gonna be 90% courtesy of Keaton!

I don't want Cruise anywhere near the DCU.

That's not what I mean, persay. I don't see Cruise being in the DCU, he's too indifferent and busy with his own projects to do that anytime soon at the very least. I do see Cruise brown nosing The Flash to open the door for him to help McQuarrie negotiate a director's deal on a movie in the DCU

Ah, gotcha.

No Keaton at the premiere last night. Presumably because he's in the UK filming Beetlejuice 2.

Keaton apparently quickly flew from London to make a surprise appearance at the Paris premiere three days ago.

It's so great to see how pumped the audience is for him!
And I love the way he briefly strikes a Batman pose on the balcony aha
