What if this is a Colin Trevorrow situation?

People need to stop using Josh Trank as the only example of an inexperienced director directing a blockbuster.

Variety are reporting it now.

#TheFlash movie to be directed by Seth Grahame-Smith (@sethgs) http://bit.ly/1Z3LLsq

Meh! I found Dark Shadows overall disappointing and mediocre. He was a huge reason why. Didn't bother AL:VH b/c of how ridiculous and comical the trailers for it looked. I don't think he's cut out to be a screenwriter. And I'm not getting my hopes up that he'd make a better filmmaker. I don't know what concerns me more the fact that he's writing Beetlejuice 2 or directing The Flash movie.

Since when has WB ever treated their directors in the horrible way Fox does?

i'm hoping that's true.

True, but as you already stated in the other thread, this film will be part of bigger universe and as such was pre-established way before Grahame-Smith came into equation, or rather some boundaries were set and Grahame-Smith won't have full control, which should minimize the possibility of him royally ****ing it up.

Exactly, one major situation is the 'Dr. Strange' film.

If you look at the filmography of both the directors and the writer, they're awful, yet i believe that film will good because its part of a wider established Universe, im hoping that situation applies to the DCEU aswell.

Well yeah but with small indie films first, this film has big financial potential, i'm really just hoping that we don't get another Trank situation.

What Spidey said. WB isn't known to meddle. Are you also forgetting what Snyder said? They'll let directors do what they want in the sandbox.

Since when has WB ever treated their directors in the horrible way Fox does?

Yeah I don't particularly like the Doctor Strange director either and yet that film is one of my most anticipated Marvel films. As you said it's apart of a Universe so there will be guidelines that this new guy has to follow.

I'm not thrilled with the choice because he's an unknown director so I can't be but I can give him a shot.

I've got to amend my signature now.

It makes me wonder if future films in a wider film universe determine their predicted (not actual) success to be critically successful all because of the 'think-tank' (like Feige and Snyder) rather then the film makers.

WB/Zack Snyder has already made it clear that they are giving their individual directors more freedom than Marvel's. So I don't see things being as micro managed but there will be guidelines obviously. Michelle McLaren and WB parting ways shows that directors can't just do whatever they want though.

That's not a dig at Marvel by the way, it's fact.

Well this is certainly odd. It's strange, I feel like I should oppose it, mainly because that's how I felt about Roberto Orci doing the next ST when he also had no directing experience. But here... WB knows what situation they're in. They know it's sink or swim as far as DC stuff goes. So Seth must have done something to impress them enough to put him in this position. It can't just be "Oh we like your writing, want to try your hand at directing?" He had to have knocked their socks off.

Clearly he's impressed some big wigs in the DCEU inner circle to win this right to direct.

So did Wally Pfister ! :oldrazz:

Jokes apart, I am rather puzzled by the choice, I mean.. even Flash TV series has got some experienced people directing the episodes as compared to this guy.

Eh... I'd rather give these to people who have at least done one film to prove they can make a good film, but finger crossed.

What if this is a Colin Trevorrow situation?

It wouldn't be much better because we'd end up with an awful looking film with cardboard characters, poorly integrated CGI and a lackluster script? :o

But also $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

1.66 billion and 71% on Rotten Tomatoes says that Jurassic World was a raving success my Queen.

Your post did make me chuckle though.

To be fair to this guy he did direct or co-direct two episodes of a series. Orci had literally not directed so much as a commercial and he's an idiot and apparently some sort of addict.

I just expected a bigger name because they got James Wan to direct Aquaman. That's the reason that I am surprised.

Although in terms of character, here's hoping Ezra Miller can bring some of his acting charm to liven his character up.

Here's a video of Seth discussing his book, "The Last American Vampire" at Google, i say to judge a man by his character rather than his work. :o

All I know is that they better not **** this up. It's my most anticipated DC film after BvS and SS.

In the words of the Great John Campea, here him speak about this! :woot:

Horrible taste in shirts. This film is doomed. :o

That is literally the same colour shirt i have in my wardrobe. :funny:

Said elsewhere but the director of Deadpool is also a first time director, however i will say that the flash will most likely be getting a budget over the 75-78 million that Deadpool was being made for
