Only How to Train your Dragon left for the year of movies I am excited about.
I will of course see GotG but I can't say I'm excited for it.

If you loved the first, you should probably feel similar about the sequel. I enjoyed the first and enjoyed the second one about the same.

Goblin fight was longer than what was in the film. Basically look at it this way, remember what happened when Zod threatened Superman's mother? Same thing happens to Harry here.

Well Peter's character arc comes full circle in this one despite having 3 people die in his life for him to finally learn responsibility. He now knows that people in his life are in danger and I don't think he'll be telling MJ soon about who he really is.

Yes he was referenced and shown in flashbacks. Key moment was when Peter was about to kill Harry, he remembers Uncle Ben's words before webbing him up.

Nope, it was hinted at and I was going by the director's words here. It's not shown but Aleksei at the end implies that he builds it to take down Spidey.)

Wow, all that sounds awesome. Infact it would've made alot more if Sony just left it alone. I hope we get a directors cut soon. Do you believe we'll get one soon?

How would you compare this movie to other marvel films?

TASM2 crosses $500 million overseas!

http://www.deadline.com/2014/06/the-amazing-spider-man-2-crosses-500m-overseas/

Sony‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has become the first studio film released in 2014 to cross the $500M mark internationally. As of this morning, the sequel to the reboot has an overseas cume of $500.1M.
...
The webslinger has traditionally done particularly well overseas in his various incarnations; the only previous take to pass $500M overseas was the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man 3 in 2007.

amazing indeed. so Spidey is no. 1 oversea. right? TASM 3 shall be on schedule.

I want it now! I already thought the goblin fight was really good has it was very intise and I thought the choreography was good so seeing a little longer fight would be great and people talk about peter and uncle ben and not see or talking about if enough in the movie that would be a good thing to add has it would show more about peter remembering uncle ben and it kind of sounds like the uncle ben flash back thing for sm2 when peter is talking about not wanting to be spider man any more. I really want to read that comparison review already come on!

3 superhero movies maxing out at around the 720-700 mark. I wonder if GotG will buck the trend and break 800m.

I hope Transformers does not even break 400 mill. But, unfortunately, it will make a billion. GOTG looks to be a lock for at least 400-450 mill. If it gets good reviews and positive word of mouth, 500-600 mill isn't out of the question.

Transformers could be the narrative of the century. Michael Bay brings a lot of soul to his films.

The Sixth Sense is the only August release to gross over 500 mil. 450 would be a nice haul for GotG. I'd love to see it hit 500 million.

What are the superhero movies coming out next year?

AoU
S6?
Ant Man?

TASM3 comes out 2016, there's no plausible way for them to make Sinister 6 between that time

There's one listed for 2018 and right now it looks like it can be the #1 CBM that year.

*It's the only CBM listed so far for that year.

WW for 2018 and Batman solos? WB will want to push those two in the wake of 2017's JL. Batman will always be huge but can WW get the Cao effect. Following upon an uber successful JL and boosting her first film to 800 million?

Whatever, on the heels of JL it seems WB will do a quick follow-up and launch the first of their "dream team" of solos in 2017.

They need to push back ASM3 because to bog down ASM3 with even more origins and back stories is going to kill the movie. Build up the S6 in their own movie and then pay them off in ASM3. DON'T build them up in ASM3 to spin them off in S6.

Or at least distance itself from Cap 3, B vs S and X-Men: Apocalypse.

Yeah, I think it might be best to distance TASM3 from BvS and Cap3, also. X-Men: Apocalypse I think we can expect similar business as DoFP, maybe a slight increase. But, those other 2 are going to be big, and I don't have faith that TASM3 won't see another decline.

In the end, it all comes down to quality. Who can do a quality movie.

Right now Cap and X-Men are coming off very well reviewed sequels that have done pretty well in the box office.

B vs. S is more of an unknown but you would think people would be interested because of the premise.

TASM 3 is coming off liked it/disliked it sequel. Can they come back with a hit? Sure they can but I think many people's expectations are low right now.

Sony need to take 3 years to polish the script and to build the lead up with S6. 2 years seems a bit short to me. Heck, they could even release Venom and S6 in the same year.
S6 - 2016
Venom - 2016
ASM 3 - 2017

T4 no matter how terrible it is will get very close to if not break the $1b mark unfortunately. They did lose Shia LeDouche and picked up Marky Mark so that can only be seen as a positive in my book. As far as GotG go I look at it like this, if TASM2 can make over $500m in the OS market with a movie that ain't so great, you wanna bet what an MCU film with all the spectacle of a space opera and tons of FX which the OS markets drool over? I'm calling it now that GotG is going to set records and be the sleeper CBM hit of the year. It's got big names, great director that gets the characters, the Marvel Studios logo, Will have Thanos, etc. It's just got all the makings of a break out hit and no real competition in it's first few weeks

The MCU and CA:TWS say hi, people said the same BS about the April slot for Cap and look how that worked out for them. It's going to take a few missteps by Marvel for them to stop printing money with the MCU and I highly doubt GotG will be their first. Now Ant-Man and the state that movie is in is a different story. Marvel is just too good at what they do right now and the GA has so much faith when they see something with the tag "From the studio that brought you the Avengers"

I'm calling it now that GotG hits between $750m-$850m WW and spanks poor Spidey in the OS game

Sure, it could be the next Star Wars, but I fail to see how making Thor numbers in August could be construed as a misstep. It's an unknown property that won't have the benefit of the "Avengers bump." Marvel isn't yet at the Pixar level in terms of brand strength, and the need for that tag line highlights the conflation of Marvel Studios movies and other Marvel movies.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes made $481,800,873 worldwide 3 years ago. Anything above that, I'd consider a success.

I'm not saying if it hits lower than what I quoted as a misstep and you are correct that anything close to $500m WW is going to be considered a success, I just have a feeling it's going to blow up far more than people expect. All the conditions are right. And unlike poor Spidey I'm sure their budget and marketing cost are going to be reined in to give GotG every shot at being a financial success as well (that blows my mind that a Spidey film cost more than a freaking CGI heavy space epic btw).
