Hey guys how's it go- holy **** what the hell happened to this thread?

The point is, comparing an actor to a specific drawing of comic book character (that has been portrayed hundreds of different ways over the years) as though it means something, is kinda silly.

No. Some opinions are informed and some are uninformed. Just because you hate Twilight (everyone hates Twilight. We get it) and love TASM doesn't mean that there are no similarities between the two, particularly, the decidedly different approach to the character and romance.

Now I'm not saying that TASM "ripped off" Twlight or anything so simplistic or juvenile. I am saying that studios follow and in fact, bank heavily on trends. Remember after the success of the first few Harry Potter movies how there were suddenly a million adaptations of young adult fantasy novels(Lemony Snickett, the Spiderwick Chronicles, Golden Compass, etc...)- which weren't necessarily Harry Potter "rip offs", but the decision for the studio to greenlight them was heavily, heavily influenced by the success of the Harry Potter franchise.

For those of us that notice and pay attention to such things, the fact that they decided to reboot, putting Parker back in high school (which made logistical sense from a storytelling standpoint sure- but would also appeal to a greater extent to pre-teens and teenagers), They decided to make the character a more brooding, angsty "outsider" (which IS a trend now-whether you believe the character has always been this way or not), Hire a director known for his hit romantic film to develop a romance that the female demographic could more easily identify with, etc... And this is putting aside the superficial aesthetics like trendy music and clothing, etc...

It's not a conspiracy and it's not a rip off, but studios don't make choices like this apropo of nothing...

Okay, firstly Peter Parker is supposed to relate teenagers to, thats not an opinion, thats a fact. Thats why Stan Lee made the character and is also what made the character so popular in the 60s. Secondly, Peter Parker has always had a love intrest, and they have always played a major part in the comics. Look at Betty Brant and how she blamed Spider-man for her brothers death when really it was Doc Ock's fault. Gwen in TASM looks like shes been cut right from the comic and acts like it to. Considering Spider-man came out wayyy before Twilight was even thought of, I feel like there is no way TASM even has any elements of that franchise. Also Garfield himself said he wanted a quippy Spider-man and had been observing Charlie Chaplin clips along with Bugs Bunny clips so he could act like a trickster as Spider-man

Peter Parker who has been drawn any number of ways over the years. From "dumpy" and "nerdy", to average everyman to supermodel gorgeous. Right.

Quips? I must have missed the part where Garfield received a scriptwriting credit!

While thats true, Andrew still looks a lot like a lot of 616 drawings, while I have never seen artwork of Peter Parker that even once looked like Tobey.

There was never really a high school love story from the comics though. Sure Peter dated Betty Brant for a while, but she didn't attend high school. Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that out of all of the choices they could have made with where to re-start the character (they could have done a soft re-boot as Marvel did with Hulk or WB is doing with Batman), but they chose to focus on the teenage love story. Which is totally fine as far as I'm concerned- I just understand their reasons for doing it (attracting a certain demographic).

But which comics? Spider-Man has been around for 50+ years and the character was in high school for 3 or them.

Studios are lazy. Remember when they hired Tim Story to direct the Fantastic Four because his surprise hit "Barber Shop" showed his talent at directing a "squabbling family"?

It was. Peter looked like he stepped out of an Urban Outfitters catalogue. Like I said, not that it's a problem, but it's just understanding and realizing that things like this are very plainly meant to appeal to certain demographics.

Like I said, I'm in no way comparing the two films, just noting that movies get made in certain ways for certain reasons in Hollywood- and in this case, the trend is pretty visible.

I won't leave a response right now because it's pretty late where I live (Sweden) and I don't have the energy to give a longer answer :P But I can say that you're right in a few points where you've convinced me, especially the high school stuff you say there makes sense. I initially thought you were basically saying that ASM was like Twilight, which would've been wrong.

Ultimate Spider-Man was a love story that took place in high school...

I see it, the hair especially. Andrew just looks younger, which makes since since the Peter above is older

Just when I thought that we were actually doing better than the Ben Affleck IS Batman thread, I arrive to this nonsense.

Vid Electriz is right. The drawings are lies. It was all apart of Sony/Marvel/Illuminati's plan to get rid of Rami. Rami is the best and he is automatically the best!!!!! Webb is riping off Twilight even though High School love was in SM1 too! Webb copied them both he is an idiot.

I still think its better than that, I made a mistkake of glimpsing at that thread and ran to the door as fast as I could
