I guess it's fine to some, seeing her as a waitress and probably more than one scene in the '02 film, but still, I would think we would've saw something different.

Then please, think of something else MJ could do for work while being below the age of 18 and relying on her looks and charm (considering that she's MJ).
And there's already a difference. Raimi's MJ worked at a cheap diner, while this MJ is working at a local hip cafe, which I'd say reflects the character of MJ quite well considering in the comics she hung out at cafe shops and what not.

MJ can't be a bartender, she can't work at a strip club, being an intern somewhere would be too similar to Gwen. Are you saying that she should have been a prostitute Anno?

You guys realize that Spidey is probably (about 95% likely) going to take off his mask when he realizes Gwen is dead right? Just so we can see Peter crying and freaking out.

Anno, you're in a fight with a 15 yr old... doesn't make you look great either. At least he has an excuse

My excuse is not my age, my excuse is that I'm right.

I don't see the big deal in MJ being a waitress again.

I mean....are people gonna say Webb is aping Raimi if Peter becomes a photographer for the Bugle?

Now if Webb has MJ trying her luck out on Broadway, then it's pitchfork lighting time....Until then... it's only a common run of the mill job. Certainly not anything that will define her long term.

Nothing to get bothered about at all (imo).

General rule of all the Spidey films so far is that mask will come off at almost any available opportunity. Gwen's death? I'd say that's a 100% certainty.

Unmasking at the inevitable Gwen death scene is warranted though.

people complaining about mj being a waitress? that is such an insignificant detail of the film to even worry about one way or another. i doubt it will have any bearing on the story at all. mj has a job, if it is a job a high school student could realistically obtain, then there is no problem.

further shows the contrast between mj and gwen. one is rich and works at oscorp as an intern, the other is of financial means similar to peter and works at a sandwich joint. one dresses very up market, the other dresses almost like a female version of peter.

i dont care if spidey unmasks at non-action moments. it bugs me when he takes it off / it comes off during an action scene; that happened way too much in tasm1.

Sure, but I'm hoping she isn't dying in the sequel or it's going to feel rushed, save it for the third. How do you do Green Goblin properly with Electro's origin and him being the main villain?

Is she wearing shoes in this movie? She wore shoes in Raimi's series! Damn these uncreative swine!

they filmed a funeral scene today and nobody got pics?

Didn't see any pics of them filming, just saw fan pics with Andrew after the shoot was finished. I know some people were speculating the cemetery scene might be a flashback with a young Peter but apparently, Emma, Andrew and Sally Field were all there today...so maybe a visit to Uncle Ben's grave?

Yes, Joe, I want MJ to be a prostitute

Webb could have thought of something else, that's all I'm saying. If Webb wanted to change the cliche nerdy gimmick of Peter, he could have changed the cliche gimmick of a wannabe actress working as a waitress.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows this is the case.

Okay, bud...

Lol, somebody who doesn't even like Spider-Man or only likes the Raimi disasters comments in the Spider-Man threads

1.) I LOVE the character of Spider-Man and I want to see him being in an excellent film which is why I'm harsh on Webb's choices as I didn't care for seeing two Spidey films that I hated so far.

2.) Raimi disasters? Reaching there, aren't you? And of course I do talk about Raimi's films in the Spider-Man threads when...well...Raimi did direct three Spider-Man films.

You're right, eh? :funny:

I hope that's the case, I really don't want Gwen to die until the third film.

anyone who complains about MJ being a waitress is gonna complain about everything about this film no matter what, i don't think they will ever be happy with anything thats to come

getting uptight about MJ being a waitress again is incredibly dumb

Lawl, asking questions is me being uptight.

Gotta love these boards.

But, this MJ isn't a wanna be/struggling actress. She's still a high school student living at home with her father, so it isn't a cliche. See, you can't even think of another job for a teenage girl like MJ, it seems like you're just poking at something just to poke at it.

I sort of think Marc Webb should be directing a completely different movie. I think he should have tried directing a drama movie and also a fantasy movie to see what he likes doing on both and how his style works in filmmaking. I think that even though Spider-Man has fantastical elements to it he is trying to make a drama. A down-to-earth drama. He seems to be chomping at the bit to make a drama about normal teenage life. He should have done one to get that out of his system and a lower key fantasy to see how different styles work because to me he isn't meshing the elements of Spider-Man very well. It seems he doesn't know HOW to do fantasy at-all. Elements such as stripping the characters of their comic book roles and making them 'normal' is one of the signs that he cannot handle fantasy. IMO of course.

The whole point of TASM was to make things more grounded. Seriously that was said like 12 times in every interview lol so he failed because he mostly accompolished what he was accomplishing to do? Spider-Man doesn't need to be ingrained in fantasy. He doesn't need magic or things like Madame Web. Webb has a more "logical explanation" to his approach on these movies, it doesn't mean he can't do fantasy, which he doesn't need to anyway since the main draw of Spider-Man is Peter. As long as he has explanations for how villians come to be, he doesn't need to rely too much on fantasy, same as Batman. Batman in the comics has a lot of fantasy going on, something that didn't really appear in Nolan's trilogy. Also, what character was stripped down to a normal person? I fail to see who you're referring to.

Anybody getting the feeling that Wesman is just a younger version of Anno? Except one loves Spider-man and other loves Batman.
